Chapter 895 - 895 0543 Guard_2
Chapter 895: Chapter 0543: Guard_2 Chapter 895: Chapter 0543: Guard_2 When Qi Tian collected these items, he also obtained a contract, or rather, an agreement. It stipulated the responsibilities and obligations between Qi Tian and the City Lord’s Mansion. Qi Tian’s main duty was to fulfill his role as a bodyguard, while the City Lord’s Mansion would provide him with five low-grade spirit stones as monthly salary, allow him one rest day every ten days, and require him to work five hours each day. The contract was for one year, with the possibility of renewal depending on Qi Tian’s performance.
Keen to secure his legal status in the Imperial Family Secret Territory, Qi Tian swiftly signed the contract. Of course, before signing, he carefully read the terms and verified that the paper used for the contract was without issue.
Qi Tian was unsure how long he might have to stay in the Imperial Family Secret Territory; it could be longer than a year, or perhaps even shorter. If something truly urgent came up, he would definitely not be bound by this contract—he would go as he needed.
Guided by a servant, Qi Tian arrived at the room arranged for him by the City Lord’s Mansion. His room was located in a quadrangle courtyard, where, in addition to him, five other cultivators resided, all of them body cultivators and third-class bodyguards of the City Lord’s Mansion.
When Qi Tian arrived, the other five were sparring in the small courtyard, shirtless, wielding staves and other such magical weapons, engaged in a melee. At times, some would ally with others, and at other times, new alliances would be formed.
Seeing Qi Tian enter, the five cultivators simultaneously stopped sparring and all looked at him with meaningful gazes. Qi Tian casually nodded at them and followed the servant into his room.
After Qi Tian opened the door to his room, the servant left. Qi Tian surveyed the room and found the furnishings simple and nothing particularly valuable, but it was clean and neat, which was pleasing. This place would be Qi Tian’s temporary residence, and he was not fussy about it. However, to maintain appearances, Qi Tian decided to go out and buy some things to furnish the room a bit.
As Qi Tian came out of his room, he saw that the five cultivators who had been sparring were now looking at him with curious gazes. He gave them a traditional greeting and said, “Gentlemen, I’d like to inquire where I can find a general store nearby. I need to purchase some daily necessities.”
“Heh heh,” the man with the dragon tattooed on his chest sneered, “Considering that we’re going to be living together in this courtyard, let me give you a piece of thrifty advice. Be economical with your spirit stones, and don’t spend them carelessly. You wouldn’t want to find yourself in need of spirit stones but with none to use—and don’t expect any of us to lend you any.”
Qi Tian slightly raised an eyebrow and asked, “Big brother, I don’t quite understand your words. Could you explain further?”
“Heh heh, just think it over yourself.”
None of the other cultivators offered any further explanation to Qi Tian; they all dispersed. Qi Tian shook his head, unconcerned. He had already used the sensing function of the Heavenly Dao Engine to scan the entire City Lord’s Mansion and its surroundings. He found nothing that posed a threat to him; as long as he didn’t attract the attention of those few at the pinnacle of the Imperial Family Secret Territory, reigning supreme in this small city would be no problem at all.
Qi Tian then found another servant to ask, and finally learned where to go for his daily necessities. With his bodyguard identification plate, he faced no obstacles entering and leaving the City Lord’s Mansion. Before long, he returned to his courtyard with a variety of daily necessities, as well as some food and drinks.
The cultivators in the same courtyard were no longer sparring with each other, but none of them were idle. They continued to cultivate in their own ways, strengthening their bodies and enhancing their physical prowess. Just like mage cultivators, body cultivators could not afford the slightest bit of negligence.
Qi Tian, holding up the food and drinks he had just purchased, smiled and said, “Brothers, it’s the supreme way to blend work and rest, so come, let’s take a break and taste the food and drinks I’ve brought.”
“Newcomer, you’ve got some nerve, on your first day in the City Lord’s Mansion, daring to leave without permission. Do you realize what you’re doing? If the young master urgently needs you and can’t find you, you’ll cause a delay in his matters. Can you bear the consequences of that? And who allowed you to drink? Don’t you know that drinking can lead to mistakes? If you mess up something important for the young master, even flaying you alive won’t be enough to atone for it.”
A burly voice suddenly erupted from behind Qi Tian. Qi Tian turned around and found a towering, muscular man with a full beard, eyes bigger than walnuts, and an intimidating stare. He was dressed in the attire of a second-class bodyguard of the City Lord’s Mansion.
“And who might you be? Do I know you? Right upon meeting, you start talking at me with neither nose nor face,” Qi Tian retorted impolitely.
Hearing this, the burly man glared with his walnut-sized eyes and bellowed in anger, “The audacity! You don’t recognize me, your captain? Kid, don’t think just because you can lift the Gold Statue that you’re invincible. Fellows like you, I could squash five with a single finger.”
Qi Tian chuckled and responded, “Really? Then show me.”
The burly man had intended to intimidate Qi Tian into submission and, seeing Qi Tian’s defiant attitude and utter lack of respect for him as captain, was instantly enraged. He shouted and swung a palm strike toward Qi Tian.
The man’s attack was sudden, and his own strength was considerable, at the peak of the Foundation Establishment’s third layer; otherwise, he wouldn’t have become a second-class bodyguard of the City Lord’s Mansion. In the past, he had used this very move to discipline his subordinates many times, always with success—if a single slap didn’t subdue someone, another would. No one had ever withstood his two slaps.
Qi Tian narrowed his eyes. With a swift move, he kicked out before the burly man’s palm could reach him. The man flew backward as if struck by a furious bull, crashing into a tree—the impact was so severe that it broke the trunk, which was as thick as a grown man’s arm. The burly man tumbled to the ground, spitting out a mouthful of fresh blood.
But Qi Tian wasn’t finished. He quickly stepped forward and delivered another kick, sending the burly man soaring into the air, then with a flying kick, sent him flying out like he was kicking a ball.
Afterward, Qi Tian turned nonchalantly back to the other cultivators in the courtyard and said, “Come now, my friends, let’s not let a piece of trash ruin our mood. Let’s drink together.”
The cultivators all swallowed hard. Each had been reprimanded by the captain before, thinking the captain would discipline Qi Tian just as severely. They hadn’t expected the lesson to be reversed, with the untouchable captain being the one schooled, and Qi Tian moving with the effortless grace of flowing water throughout the encounter, which implied only one thing: Qi Tian’s strength far surpassed the captain’s, and they weren’t even worthy enough to carry his shoes.
They didn’t know how the City Lord’s Mansion would deal with Qi Tian, but they dared not slight Qi Tian again, fearing that angering him would result in him kicking them as he had kicked the captain, something they assuredly could not withstand.
Consequently, the cultivators all flashed ingratiating smiles, becoming exceedingly proactive and getting in motion.
