Chapter 316: Chapter 0249: Near Total Annihilation Chapter 316: Chapter 0249: Near Total Annihilation Chapter 0249: Near Total Annihilation
Qi Tian disregarded the fleeing Chi Di cultivators and the Chi Di soldiers crying out in despair. He flew over countless scattered tents and headed directly for the Chi Di trebuchet camp. Although a significant degree of chaos was induced by the blazing wooden barrels which resulted in numerous deaths and injuries, the fire was extinguished and the soldiers of the trebuchet camp were in the process of tidying up.
Qi Tian flew directly into the trebuchet camp, causing substantial chaos. Nonetheless, since the most potent Chi Di cultivators had already fallen to Qi Tian, the soldiers remaining were ordinary people. Seeing Qi Tian flying towards them, all but a very bold few fled in terror, viewing Qi Tian as a devil.
Using the Soaring Cloud Talisman, Qi Tian headed directly towards the officers of the trebuchet camp. Their attire and demeanor made them distinct from the ordinary soldiers, making them easy targets for Qi Tian. He knocked them out and locked them up temporarily in the Spirit Beast Bracelet.
After capturing six or seven Chi Di officers, Qi Tian rushed towards the warehouse he had discovered earlier that housed the wooden barrels. Having loaded several hundred barrels into a storage bag, he invoked the Soaring Cloud Talisman again to ascend into the air, then dropped a fireball. The ensuing ignition set all the barrels on the ground ablaze.
Though not many barrels remained in the warehouse, the hundred or so that were did explode and catch fire, turning the surrounding area of two to three miles into a burning field. This massive fire would rob many Chi Di soldiers of their lives. They had come to revel in the spoils of plundering and killing Zhao’s military and citizens, but encountered doom in the process.
Without lingering, Qi Tian turned and flew towards Tongmen West Pass.
Zhang Lei and some cultivators capable of flight, who had joined the fight expecting rewards, had successfully eliminated the invading Chi Di cultivators. Even if they weren’t killed, they were certainly defeated.
Qi Tian glanced at the battle in the sky, concluding there would be no issues even if he didn’t intervene. He bypassed them and landed on the border wall, where Huang Zhiwei hastily rushed over.
“Immortal master, was it you who caused the chaos and fire in the Chi Di camp?” Huang Zhiwei asked.
Qi Tian nodded, “Yes, indeed. Commander, the Chi Di camp is in utter chaos, with countless dead and injured. Their strength is at its most depleted now. I hope you can mobilize your troops immediately to eliminate the greedy Chi Di. If you heed my advice, you’ll achieve unprecedented merit. If not, when reinforcements arrive, the accolades won’t be yours.”
Huang Zhiwei, a decisive man, understood that Qi Tian singlehandedly wreaked havoc on the Chi Di camp killing numerous Chi Di cultivators. With the trebuchet camp wiped out and many soldiers dead or injured, it would be remiss not to seize this opportunity. Especially since the scout had already gone to Tonggun Pass to request reinforcements under Qi Tian’s protection. If they waited until the reinforcements arrived, the military merit that could have been easily gained would have to be shared, which was something he absolutely couldn’t accept.
“Everyone, heed my command! Except for the 5000 soldiers who will remain to defend Tongmen West Pass, all other camps will move out to attack the Chi Di camp and uphold the prestige of Great Zhao Nation,” Huang Zhiwei commanded loudly.
Huang Zhiwei’s many generals, impatient for battle, had been standing on the border wall with a clear view of the chaos in the Chi Di camp. On receiving Huang Zhiwei’s command, all roared in agreement and rushed towards the foot of the wall, hoping to be the first to attack the Chi Di camp.
Qi Tian said, “Commander, request those cultivators who cannot fly to join the battle as well. While you slay the regular Chi Di soldiers, they will take care of the Chi Di cultivators.”
“Understood.” Huang Zhiwei nodded and sent a knight to relay Qi Tian’s command.
Qi Tian added, “Commander, I need a favor. I need interpreters who speak the Chi Di language and skilled interrogators. They will be useful.”
“No problem, I’ll arrange it right away,” Huang Zhiwei hastily replied.
Qi Tian said, “Alright, I’m done. Commander, if you have matters to attend to, you can go and handle them.”
Huang Zhiwei had been eager to personally lead the offensive against the Chi Di camp for some time. This was tangible, visible merit that he did not wish to share. He quickly bowed to Qi Tian and charged towards the foot of the wall with his knights.
Not long after, one of Huang Zhiwei’s knights brought over the interpreters and skilled interrogators Qi Tian required. He released the captured Chi Di officers from the Spirit Beast Bracelet and let the interpreters and interrogators question them. He wanted to know where the stones hurled by the Chi Di’s trebuchets a few days ago had come from.
The interpreters and interrogators didn’t understand Qi Tian’s interest in this matter, but they didn’t dare to question him either. Under Qi Tian’s orders, they started interrogating the Chi Di officers. These experienced professionals managed to obtain the information that Qi Tian needed before long.
The interrogators worked separately on each Chi Di officer rendering the information extracted from torture quite reliable.
