The Magic Bug was caught off guard by Qi Tian. Just as Transporting Whirlwind pulled it towards Qi Tian’s palm, it instinctively sensed danger. It began to resist desperately, using all its strength to fan its wings and try to fly away from Qi Tian’s palm. But the Transporting Whirlwind tightly clung to it; for a time, they were locked in an impasse, neither able to best the other.
A sly smirk surfaced on Qi Tian’s face. He was about to crush the little bug, trapped directly above his palm, when suddenly a surprised voice came from behind him.
“Huh, why is there an Ink-Eyed Tiger Ladybug here? Qi Tian, you must be careful and, if possible, it’s best not to kill it.”
“Zhang, how are you awake?” Qi Tian sensed Zhang Lei’s voice without even turning his head.
“I was just meditating, I wasn’t sleeping. Then I noticed the commotion over here.” Zhang Lei briefly explained as she watched the Magic Bug that Qi Tian held captive above his palm. “Qi Tian, don’t kill this Ink-Eyed Tiger Bee. This is quite a catch.”
Qi Tian was well aware of the value of this Ink-Eyed Tiger Bee. If he hadn’t witnessed it with his own eyes, he wouldn’t have believed this thumb-sized bug could knock Hu Niu away. It felt as absurd as an ant toppling an elephant. He had no idea of the background of the bug though. “Zhang, do you know anything about the bug? Can you share with me?”
Zhang Lei replied: “This is an incredible insect. Despite its small size, it’s unbelievably strong. They are social insects. Don’t be fooled by the red compound eyes of this Ink-Eyed Tiger Ladybug. The real heavyweights in their groups are the ones with ink-black eyes. These insects are rare, typically numbering around three to four dozen in a swarm. It’s said that the Ink-eyed Tiger Ladybug has the blood of ink tigers, thus its formidable strength. Among them, the most impressive are those that have undergone Dual Cultivation of Spells and Body, and those with extremely high intelligence.”
“Dual Cultivation? Zhang, are you sure you aren’t joking?” Qi Tian felt as though he must be hallucinating.
But Zhang Lei said, “Believe it or not. In an old piece of literature, I saw the records of seniors. They had witnessed an Ink-Eyed Tiger Ladybug that had undergone Dual Cultivation. That one was proficient in three types of Spells: Wind Series, Fire Series, and Poison Series. Furthermore, it could transport boulders weighing several thousand pounds. That one Ink-Eyed Tiger Ladybug wiped out an entire cultivator squad led by a mid-stage Foundation Establishment cultivator.”
Qi Tian gasped. He had never heard of such a ferocious insect before.
Zhang continued, “Ink-Eyed Tiger Ladybugs might be ferocious, but it doesn’t diminish their value. The bug itself, its eggs, and its nests are all valuable alchemy materials. And if you’re lucky, you might even be able to hatch and domesticate Ink-Eyed Tiger Ladybugs as your pets. Imagine having a pet that can trigger three types of Spells. How cool would that be?”
Qi Tian shook his head, “I’m not interested in that. How much effort does it take to cultivate such a pet? However, if you’re interested, I will give this Ink-Eyed Tiger Ladybug to you.”
Zhang waved her hands hastily, “This Ladybug is almost an adult. It is almost impossible to domesticate. I asked you to trap it not because I want to capture it, but because I want to trace it to its nest. If we could find the nest, we would be able to catch all the Ladybugs at once, and that would be a significant gain. Qi Tian, even if you’re not interested in domesticating an Ink-Eyed Tiger Ladybug, you could take its eggs and sell them later. This would definitely exchange for a considerable amount of cultivation resources. And the nests of Ink-Eyed Tiger Bees are valuable as well. Even if you don’t use them for alchemy, you could feed them to Hu Niu; they’re very beneficial for her growth.”
Upon hearing these words, Qi Tian’s heart stirred. He was never against the acquisition of more cultivation resources. Furthermore, Hu Niu’s slow growth, which had been out of step with his own, had always been a concern for him. Since this Ink-Eyed Tiger Ladybug might help solve both issues, he certainly couldn’t let this opportunity slip away. “Alright, but like you said, there are three or four dozen of them in a swarm, and they once wiped out a cultivator squad led by a mid-stage Foundation Establishment cultivator. Can just the two of us handle them? Otherwise, we might end up being wiped out by them instead.”
Zhang replied, “We certainly can’t handle them alone, but if we call Pan Yulin and the others, we might have a chance. What do you think, Qi Tian? If you agree, I will wake up Pan Yulin, Jiang Pan, and Zhang Guangyao. The five of us could work it out together and strike as a team.”
Qi Tian nodded.
Zhang Lei relaxed after securing Qi Tian’s approval. She was worried he might reject the risk. Encountering a Spirit Bug like the Ink-Eyed Tiger Ladybug was not an everyday occurrence. One might have such an opportunity only once in a lifetime. Missing it might mean missing it forever. She asked Qi Tian to keep the Ladybug trapped while she quickly woke Pan Yulin, Zhang Guangyao, and Jiang Pan. After explaining the situation briefly, Pan Yulin and the others agreed immediately. Every cultivator was in need of cultivation resources, even Mansion Master Xiao Xiaowu, who was affluent and at the Gold Core Stage, was constantly searching for cultivation resources suitable for the Gold Core Stage. So of course, they were no different.
