Chapter 1387: Chapter 0788: How am I doing now? Chapter 1387: Chapter 0788: How am I doing now? Chapter 0788 How Am I Performing Now
Emperor Zhi Wu’s questioning was forceful and confident, as he stood on what seemed like the moral high ground, implying that everything he did and said was for the sake of the Grand Ancestor Emperor and for the consideration of all the princes—with no hint of personal agenda.
However, Emperor Zhi Wu seemed to forget who stood before him at that moment. These were men who, like him, were once emperors of Great Zhao Nation. When it came to the cunning of imperial politics, none of the princes were inferior to him. What was more crucial was that Emperor Daqian and the others had lived for hundreds of years more than him, their life experiences far richer than Emperor Zhi Wu’s, and their cultivation realms were not ones that Emperor Zhi Wu could compare with.
Had Emperor Zhi Wu’s speech been directed at others, perhaps it could have intimidated them, made them feel ashamed, and compelled them involuntarily to act as Emperor Zhi Wu instructed. But now, he faced Emperor Daqian and the others. No matter how impassioned Emperor Zhi Wu’s words were, they failed to make Emperor Daqian so much as glance at him twice.
Emperor Daqian stared at Emperor Liuyong with a very cold tone, “Tell us honestly, are these nonsensical words Emperor Zhi Wu’s own thoughts, or do you share them as well? Don’t beat around the bush, just answer our question directly. The situation is urgent, and we have no time to waste. If you hesitate, then we will treat you as an accomplice of Emperor Zhi Wu.”
Emperor Liuyong knew Emperor Daqian all too well. When Emperor Daqian spoke like this, it often meant that he had already made a decision and even if God himself appeared, he wouldn’t be able to change Emperor Daqian’s mind. Emperor Liuyong did not wish to oppose Emperor Daqian, so he quickly responded, “I had no idea that today’s events would unfold. Emperor Zhi Wu’s words are purely his own views and have nothing to do with me. However, Emperor Zhi Wu made such decisions and said such words considering the Grand Ancestor Emperor and our interests. We can simply correct his mistakes; there’s no need to delve deeper into this matter.”
Emperor Daqian raised his hand to stop Emperor Liuyong from continuing, “Your words, we trust none of them. To prove your loyalty to us, you must now take action yourself. Kill Emperor Zhi Wu and bring us his head as a gesture of accountability to Qi Tian. Only through such an act can we prevent calamities.”
Emperor Liuyong hesitated. Emperor Zhi Wu had contributed significantly to his present status, and over the past century, had it not been for Emperor Zhi Wu’s strategic counsel and key military leadership in times of need, his palace would not have become one of the Six Great Imperial Palaces of Xidu. Merely from the perspective of merit, he could not simply dispose of Emperor Zhi Wu. If he killed Emperor Zhi Wu, his palace would undoubtedly become unstable, possibly crumbling to the point of no return—a destiny he could not avoid in the future. Moreover, Emperor Zhi Wu was his direct descendent, making it all the harder to lay a hand on him.
The expression on Emperor Daqian’s face shifted slightly. He initially wanted to give Emperor Liuyong the chance to solve the issue on his own, but it seemed that Emperor Liuyong had no desire for such an opportunity.
Emperor Daqian shook his head, “Since you are unwilling to act, don’t blame us for being unsympathetic. Gentlemen, no more words—let’s move. Kill Emperor Zhi Wu, capture Emperor Liuyong, and apologize to Qi Tian.”
The other princes had been itching to act. They did not want to conflict with Qi Tian, preferring to pay the minimum price to send this calamity—Qi Tian—away. Emperor Zhi Wu, now stirring up trouble, was driving them towards a dead end.
Emperor Daqian and the four other princes immediately sprang into action, charging at Emperor Zhi Wu and Emperor Liuyong without holding back, treating them as mortal enemies. They used their deadliest skills from the outset.
Emperor Liuyong was reluctant to fight, but Emperor Zhi Wu showed no sign of backing down. Despite his cultivation only at the Gold Core Stage 4th Level, far behind Emperor Daqian and the others, Emperor Zhi Wu’s face betrayed not the slightest hint of panic or nervousness. Suddenly, numerous symbol runes began to flicker around him, and circles of light lit up, enveloping Emperor Zhi Wu in a protective barrier.
Two of the princes pounced on Emperor Liuyong, who put up only a symbolic resistance before surrendering himself.
Emperor Daqian, along with the other two princes, rushed at Emperor Zhi Wu. They saw him as the key to solving the current crisis, needing to capture him first—and at the very least, behead Emperor Zhi Wu as a way to account to Qi Tian, to prevent Qi Tian’s wrath from falling on them.
Emperor Daqian and the two princes who rushed with him were among the strongest of the Six Great Imperial Palaces of Xidu. In their eyes, joining forces to subdue Emperor Zhi Wu would be easy. However, upon reaching him, they realized the situation was far from as simple as they had assumed.
Emperor Zhi Wu, using a magic weapon to protect himself, astonishingly possessed a Nascent Soul Stage Magic Weapon. The runes that appeared around him were the emanations of another Nascent Soul Stage Magic Weapon. This meant that although Emperor Zhi Wu was only a cultivator at the Gold Core Realm 4th Level, he had at least two Nascent Soul Stage magic artifacts on him, which was frightening indeed.
