Chapter 1349: Chapter 0769: Deliberately Waterproof Chapter 1349: Chapter 0769: Deliberately Waterproof Chapter 0769 Deliberate Release

Zhao Deyi desperately hoped that the figure who had crawled out of the coffin, the master of the Saint’s Tomb, would intervene. However, his desire was only that—a wish. He had no means of commanding the master of the tomb to take any action.

Although the tomb guardian knew that the situation had developed unfavorably for them, he did not act as Zhao Deyi had hoped and step in to block Qi Tian. The guardian was acutely aware of his weakness: having lain in his coffin for centuries, his magical power had been almost completely depleted. With only a fraction of his power remaining, he could still posture and intimidate to frighten others and could retaliate with some magic if threatened, but were he to truly engage in battle with Qi Tian as Zhao Deyi suggested, his remaining power would be rapidly exhausted. Without any deterrent power left, he feared not just Qi Tian, but even Zhao Deyi might turn his spearhead against him.

Without magic power, how could he defend himself? It was unrealistic to expect Zhao Deyi to protect him as a brother.

Unmoved by the predicament, Zhao Deyi was itching with frustration but was powerless to change the situation. Being weaker than the tomb guardian, he dared not confront the guardian directly. He could only fumble through his Storage Bag for the few remaining pills, pop them into his mouth to restore his magic power, all the while continuously brandishing the Banana Fan.

Zhao Deyi hadn’t dismissed the possibility of breaking through and escaping, but with Qi Tian and his people blocking the entrance to the Inner Underground Palace, there was no chance of success. Moreover, severely lacking appropriate magical instruments at hand, he had no chance of victory in a direct confrontation with Qi Tian. As a result, he was left repeatedly waving the Banana Fan to keep Qi Tian’s unorthodox methods from penetrating the Inner Underground Palace. Simultaneously, Zhao wracked his brain, continuously devising one escape plan after another. If he could just break out of the Saint’s Tomb, with the advantage in speed he possessed, escaping would be relatively easy.

As time passed, however, Zhao Deyi began to despair at the complete lack of chances for a frontal breakout. He had nearly depleted all his reserved pills and spirit stones, yet Qi Tian’s onslaught maintained a very high frequency without showing any sign of weakening. If this continued, it wouldn’t be long before his magic power was completely drained, turning the situation extremely unfavorable for him. With Qi Tian waiting in the Outer Palaces and the tomb guardian eyeing him warily by his side, he would be in dire straits, potentially facing severe consequences.

Zhao Deyi was not one to sit by and await an inevitable death. He quickly sent a message to the tomb guardian, inquiring if there was any escape route—a Teleportation Array, a secret passage, or something of the like. If there was, he urged the guardian to reveal it immediately so they could escape before becoming too exhausted to consider fleeing later.

The tomb guardian had more than half of his attention on Zhao Deyi. Although he did give several decent magical instruments to Zhao, the idea of placing real trust in Zhao was out of the question. Far from seeking to augment Zhao’s strength, he had lured Zhao here while dealing with his own severe lack of magical power, placing many hopes in him, and certainly not wishing for Zhao to die cluelessly.

The tomb guardian pointed towards a certain direction on the ceiling of the tomb and shared a secret with Zhao. The ceiling of the Saint’s Tomb was reinforced in a special way, and attempting to break through without knowledge could result in dire consequences. It wouldn’t just be impossible to break through; one might even pulverize themselves in the effort.

However, not every part of the ceiling was equally robust. There was a small area where the defense was weaker. For a master of the Nascent Soul Stage, it would only take a little bit of effort to break through the ceiling and escape from the Saint’s Tomb.

While waving the Banana Fan and creating a gust of wind, Zhao Deyi looked up toward the direction indicated by the tomb guardian, his eyes revealing profound distrust. If, at first, he had felt grateful to the guardian for the magical instruments bestowed upon him, that gratitude had now evaporated with the guardian’s refusal to intervene. He wasn’t a naive child; he could tell that the guardian was unreliable. If the guardian deliberately misled him to a well-fortified spot and waited for him to charge at it, the joke would be on him.

Apparently not noticing Zhao Deyi’s suspicious gaze, the tomb guardian simply maintained an indifferent expression and asserted that that spot was the only passage out of the Saint’s Tomb. He warned that escape would be impossible from any other location.

Zhao Deyi was somewhat unwilling to take the risk. If he had the choice, he would undoubtedly avoid such a gamble, but the situation was forcing his hand. His remaining magic power was dwindling, and his Storage Bag was almost out of pills and spirit stones. Continuing the fight without prompt replenishment of his powers meant he might as well be a tiger without teeth, as his cultivation at the Nascent Soul Stage would no longer translate into combat ability, leaving him at the mercy of being captured by Qi Tian.
