Chapter 1289: Chapter 0739 Playing with Holes Chapter 1289: Chapter 0739 Playing with Holes Chapter 0739: Digging Holes for Fun
Manager Chen activated all the remaining mechanisms and arrays, causing the nine ghost faces protecting Qi Tian to be injured to varying degrees; some of them were even severely hurt. Although Manager Chen couldn’t see all this by conventional means, he was still able to vaguely sense through the array he had previously laid underground that the ghost faces had suffered heavy damage, which greatly excited him.
The nine ghost faces, even though the highest level among them was only at the First Level of the Nascent Soul Stage, which couldn’t compare to Manager Chen’s Second Level of the Nascent Soul Stage, the sheer number of ghost faces was overwhelming. Had this been outside, he wouldn’t have given a second thought to nine ghost faces, let alone twice that number. However, this was the Inner Underground Palace, naturally cramped, and now Qi Tian had used dense fog to seal off the entire palace.
In such a place, entangled with ghost faces, Manager Chen didn’t believe he had much chance of winning; even if he did eventually come out on top, it would come at a great cost. Now, with a single move inflicting heavy injuries on the nine ghost faces, it was as if Qi Tian had lost his biggest helper. Next, if Manager Chen were to act against Qi Tian, it would undoubtedly be much easier.
Taking advantage of the opportune moment right after the mechanisms and arrays had just been activated, when the chaos was at its peak, acting against Qi Tian now would significantly increase his chances of success. Manager Chen didn’t hesitate a bit and immediately sprang into action, lunging towards Qi Tian’s location. He assured himself that he still had many advantages, naturally, he had to strike first while he was still on top. Otherwise, waiting for Qi Tian to whittle away his advantages, the situation would become very unfavorable for him when he made his move.
Even though the dense fog had sealed off the entire Inner Underground Palace, and Manager Chen couldn’t see with his eyes or use his Divine Sense, he relied on his familiarity with the place to rapidly construct a map of the palace in his mind. By continuously capturing the surrounding sounds, he constantly adjusted minor discrepancies on the map, allowing him to act unhindered though he couldn’t see anything.
As for Qi Tian, the dense fog had virtually no effect on him. When Manager Chen lunged at him, Qi Tian reacted preemptively. He didn’t dodge, but he also didn’t intend to clash head-on with Manager Chen; with his small arms and legs, he knew very well that he was no match for Manager Chen.
With a mere thought from Qi Tian, the Glazed Sand sprang into action. The Glazed Sand had been ready all along, moving silently, thanks to the surrounding dense fog that covered its movements. Without the fog, its maneuvers would have produced some noise, but now, any sound it made was almost entirely absorbed by the fog.
In an instant, the Glazed Sand flew between Qi Tian and Manager Chen and swiftly changed its shape, becoming a massive shield in a blink.
Manager Chen, who had lunged forward, had not anticipated that a shield would suddenly appear before him. He crashed into it like a headless fly, causing a thunderous boom.
The Glazed Sand desperately gathered all its strength, hoping to use the shield to block Manager Chen. It believed it could do so – after all, it commanded several granules of Yang Sand, and by concentrating their strength, it should be able to exert considerable power.
But the Glazed Sand quickly realized it had underestimated Manager Chen. Back in the Outer Palaces, when it clashed with Manager Chen, his seemingly casual flick could send it flying backward; that wasn’t something that could be easily achieved. It was entirely due to Manager Chen’s overwhelming power. Now, though Manager Chen was missing an arm, he retained most of his strength, and his strike, borne of anger, was too much for the Glazed Sand’s shield. Despite accumulating all its power, the shield was no match for Manager Chen. Had the Glazed Sand not gritted its teeth, desperately concentrating all the granules of Yang Sand together, the impact from Manager Chen would have been enough to disperse it back into a pile of loose sand.
The Glazed Sand had to admit there was a vast disparity in strength between itself and Manager Chen. On its own, it wasn’t able to stop Manager Chen for its master. Just as it was about to warn Qi Tian, he already had the Transporting Whirlwind rush over.
Except for a few left behind just in case, all the Transporting Whirlwinds moved out, not a single one remained behind. They circumvented Manager Chen’s position and then divided into several groups, entwining towards Manager Chen.
Manager Chen, against the shield created by the Glazed Sand, kept pressing towards Qi Tian. Despite having the upper hand in the fierce battle, the Glazed Sand still occupied a considerable portion of his strength. As the Transporting Whirlwinds pounced and wrapped around his neck, shoulders, waist, and other parts, they collectively exerted force, desperately pulling him backward.
Manager Chen quickly felt he couldn’t hold on any longer; the strength of the Transporting Whirlwind was terrifying. With them pulling from behind and the Glazed Sand in front, Manager Chen realized that continuing like this wouldn’t work and would only result in his detriment. His advantage lay in his formidable individual strength; Qi Tian could randomly choose anyone to duel him one-on-one, and Manager Chen could teach them a lesson within minutes. However, if Manager Chen abandoned his strength and instead engaged in a numbers contest with Qi Tian, that would be highly disadvantageous. It seemed that Qi Tian had access to an abundance of Nascent Soul Stage power, which when pooled together, even Manager Chen would have to strategically withdraw.
