Chapter 1283: Chapter 0736: Preparing to Set Someone Up Chapter 1283: Chapter 0736: Preparing to Set Someone Up Chapter 0736: Preparing to Set the Trap
Qi Tian didn’t rush to set traps for Manager Chen, as to ensure the traps would be effective, he had to consider not just targeting Manager Chen’s weaknesses but also the importance of an elaborate and faultless arrangement.
This consideration was particularly crucial for Qi Tian, who couldn’t be certain where Manager Chen would flee once a battle ensued. If Manager Chen’s escape route didn’t coincide with the location of his traps, wouldn’t all his efforts go to waste?
Qi Tian entertained this thought because he noticed that Manager Chen’s current position differed from the one he’d chosen last time when he’d been gravely injured and decided to retreat. It was highly probable that Manager Chen had quickly retreated to the Inner Underground Palace of the Saint’s Tomb through a Teleportation Array set upon the massive stone blocking the tomb’s entrance. Precedented by this, it was likely that other Teleportation Arrays were scattered within the Saint’s Tomb. Qi Tian had to locate all of these Teleportation Arrays and set traps with Millennium Corpse Water targetedly, which was the only way to perfect his plan and seriously ensnare Manager Chen, inflicting significant losses once more.
Finding all the Teleportation Arrays in the Saint’s Tomb could be an impossible task for others, but Qi Tian saw a considerable margin for action.
First, Qi Tian used the Heavenly Dao Engine’s ability to sense Spirit Qi, conducting a thorough search of the Saint’s Tomb, and after various comparisons, he identified suspected locations of Teleportation Arrays.
Without investigating, one remains unaware, but on inspection, Qi Tian got a shock. He had thought highly of the Saint’s Tomb’s master, however, after his search, Qi Tian realized that what he considered highly was still an underestimation of the craftiness of the tomb’s master.
In Qi Tian’s opinion, even if the master of the Saint’s Tomb was adept in schemes, setting up four or five Teleportation Arrays inside and outside the tomb would have been an impressive feat. After his exploration, he discovered through the Heavenly Dao Engine’s sensing capability that there were as many as ten direct observable Teleportation Arrays, and that was only the obvious ones. Moreover, Qi Tian also found several locations with inscriptions similar to the runes on the lamp posts at the entrance of the Inner Underground Palace. He strongly suspected these rune-carved locations could also possess teleporting functions like the lamp posts.
Qi Tian didn’t even know how to evaluate the master of the Saint’s Tomb. The saying goes, “A cunning rabbit has three burrows,” but even the cleverest rabbit only digs three holes, whereas the master of the Saint’s Tomb had created over a dozen Teleportation Arrays. Just how cunning and afraid of death must he have been?
After several meticulous investigations, and pouring over the three-dimensional map fed back by the Heavenly Dao Engine, Qi Tian firstly eliminated the possibility of any small hidden spaces within the Saint’s Tomb. He then momentarily set aside the Teleportation Arrays located in the Inner Underground Palace. Ultimately, he figured out that there were seven spots within the entire Outer Palaces where traps needed to be set up. All these areas were within reach in the Outer Palaces, either housing a Teleportation Array or special runes, all requiring cautious attention.
Beyond these locations, the tomb’s ceiling, which had been breached by lucent sand, and the two lamp posts positioned at the entrance to the Inner Underground Palace also required targeted arrangements from Qi Tian.
Qi Tian planned to use Millennium Corpse Water as the basis for trapping these areas, which would demand multi-faceted consideration. On one hand, there were numerous places to defend, and any negligence could render the traps useless. This issue was essentially resolved with the Heavenly Dao Engine’s ability to sense Spirit Qi, virtually eliminating the possibility of problems. On the other hand, for every location that needed a trap, the adequacy and thoroughness of the traps had to be considered; would they function as Qi Tian expected once Manager Chen emerged from a Teleportation Array? If Manager Chen happened to bypass a trap, or if the trap’s reaction time was too long to be effective in time, all of Qi Tian’s plans could be doomed. In that case, failing to capture Manager Chen would be the least of his worries. The primary concern would be that Manager Chen could potentially spread Qi Tian’s secrets, leading to endless troubles for Qi Tian’s future.
Solving these problems wasn’t difficult. Qi Tian decided to approach it from two angles: increasing the quantity and density of Millennium Corpse Water to minimize the likelihood of oversights, and adding a level of autonomy to the traps. He had many options for the latter, such as setting up Sensing Arrays, a common strategy in the Cultivation World. It only required presetting the triggering conditions for the Sensing Arrays; once someone triggered these conditions, the Sensing Arrays would activate, functioning according to the setter’s intentions.
However, Qi Tian had no plans to utilize so-called Sensing Arrays. Although effective, their disadvantage was clear: the time required for reaction was rather long for a Nascent Soul Master like Manager Chen. From activation to effect, the delay was enough to allow Manager Chen a chance to escape entirely.
