Chapter 71: Chapter 59 Enola Developed a Sense of Crisis
In the following period, Shiayar completely immersed himself in the training room within the manor.
He was giving special training to his Pet Beasts. Or rather, to be precise, he was giving special training to Crimson.
Shiny and Silver’s abilities were mainly supportive and controlling, and they were already approaching maturity.
If he wanted to improve them further, it would generally require new Skill Seeds to develop brand new skill combinations and ability systems.
But Crimson was different.
As a main battle Pet Beast that had recently joined the team, its aspects were very immature. Compared to the highly developed Silver and Shiny, it had significant shortcomings.
However, this also meant it had a great deal of potential for improvement.
Especially since, apart from "Slash," "Sword Bone," and "Blood Incineration," the skill proficiency of Crimson’s other skills was almost completely undeveloped.
It was simply the perfect target for Shiayar to allocate points to...
WHOOSH.
The silvery-white gleam of a spear tore through the air, ripping through the atmosphere and stirring up a storm.
The fierce aura that swept up seemed as if it would shred everything in the vicinity to pieces.
However, facing the blonde girl in front of him, clad in a knight’s armor tonlet and exuding an astonishing aura, Shiayar merely closed his eyes.
The next moment, a connection resonated deep within his Soul—the Soul Pact. Faint, almost imperceptible red points of light gathered between Shiayar’s fingers.
Then, in a very short time, the ephemeral light points coalesced into a solid entity.
It was a blade of crimson.
Immediately after, Shiayar let his intellect and thoughts go blank.
Following the intuition and instinct that rippled from deep within his soul, he swung his sword.
CLANG.
The red edge of the sword carved a simple arc in the air.
A split second later, the crimson blade crossed paths with the silvery-white Knight’s Lance.
Metal clashed against metal, erupting into a resonant, explosive sound.
The magical fluctuations produced by the collision made the specialized metal outer walls of the surrounding training room vibrate and hum.
Moments later, the magictech glow of a small energy-storage Array lit up, and calm was restored.
As a luxury training room built within a valuable estate, the construction standards of this room were originally quite lavish.
Theoretically, it could withstand the full-force attacks of any 4-Ring Beastmaster and their Pet Beasts.
But at this moment, just a brief exchange between two 3-Ring Beastmasters showed signs of the training room collapsing.
"That’s enough for today.
"If we keep going, we might not have a home left."
Shiayar waved his hand, dismissing the possession state with Crimson, and the crimson blood blade in his hand dematerialized into light points and disappeared.
Almost at the same time Shiayar uttered these words, the oppressive intent that enveloped the entire training room vanished.
Enola’s Mithril armor tonlet, which had covered her entire body, dissipated into flowing light, revealing her pristine white academy uniform beneath.
The blonde girl walked lightly to Shiayar’s side, picked up two towels that had been prepared by the side of the training room, handed one to Shiayar, and took the other for herself.
She looked up at Shiayar’s profile, a hint of surprise flickering through her azure blue eyes.
"You’re improving so quickly in close combat skills."
As an Armament-type Beastmaster specializing in combat, Enola was naturally more than familiar with the various nuances of close combat.
Therefore, she knew very well that contracting a powerful new Pet Beast could certainly enable a Beastmaster to achieve a qualitative leap in attributes like strength, speed, and defense, or in overall physical fitness.
But if there was only strength and physical fitness without the corresponding experience and skills—then even powerful attributes would be like a child wielding a large axe, making it extremely difficult to bring even thirty or forty percent of that strength into play.
Enola’s own combat skills and experience had been accumulated and honed through countless missions for the Military Department, in a crucible of iron and blood.
And as far as Enola understood Shiayar, his fighting style was completely different from her own; he rarely confronted opponents head-on.
Instead of overwhelmingly crushing opponents in a direct confrontation, he preferred to use Illusion Techniques and other methods, like a sly old fox who unnoticedly plucked the fruit of victory.
For this reason, Enola had originally thought that even if Shiayar’s 3rd Soul Pact involved contracting a physically specialized Pet Beast of a superior race, he would still need a long time to polish his skills and accumulate battle experience.
But now, it seemed that was not the case.
In these past few days of battle, Enola could feel Shiayar’s experience and skills improving at an unbelievable speed.
The Slash he had just delivered had not disadvantaged her in the slightest.
"It’s a kind of shortcut."
Shiayar also sat down at the edge of the training field, taking the wet towel Enola handed him and wiping off the sweat.
"I know I’m not like you. You have an innate instinct for battle; you don’t often need to think and can rely solely on intuition to make the best decisions in the blink of an eye. You’re a natural talent.
"I also don’t have such a pure pursuit of the way of warriors and knights.
"Even if I were to practice forcefully, I couldn’t achieve your level. You dedicate yourself day after day, year after year, to refining yourself with complete focus and sincerity, without reliance on external things.
"So, I actually took a shortcut."
Shiayar put down the wet towel and caught a strand of the girl’s hair that fell beside him, casually twirling the light golden long hair around his fingers.
The strand of hair was soft and smooth, carrying a faint fragrance – it was the scent of Enola’s favorite shampoo.
I must say, Ennie’s hair is very pleasant to play with.
"Through the highly compatible Soul Pact with Crimson and the self-hypnosis support from ’Moon Reading,’ I’ve blocked out part of my subjective consciousness and entrusted all my battle decisions to Crimson’s instincts, honed by tens of millions of sword strikes."
Shiayar was very aware of his own limitations; he just wasn’t cut out for intense combat.
His nature was too meticulous, preferring to deliberate before acting.
In everyday life, of course, this was not a bad thing.
But in blade-edge battles where victory could hinge on a split second, too much thinking could become a hindrance.
However, it didn’t matter if Shiayar wasn’t good at it; as long as his Pet Beast excelled, that was enough.
Crimson was able to train the simple and unadorned skill of ’Slash’ to an ’extraordinary’ level without the aid of Extraordinary resources or evolutionary materials. This indicated just how strong Crimson’s battle consciousness and intuition truly were.
Even compared to a natural-born knight like Enola, it was not inferior.
"Oh."
Enola nodded, letting Shiayar fiddle with her hair.
Yet in her heart, she secretly made a certain determination.
Originally, Shiayar wasn’t particularly strong in head-on combat, so she was his only complementary partner.
But now, as Shiayar’s weaknesses were being addressed, Enola suddenly experienced a sense of crisis.
To become someone—someone who will always be of use to you...
Feeling the hands that were playing with her hair, Enola silently recited the vow she had made to the boy eight years ago, amidst the ruins of Ceylon.
It seemed she had been a bit too relaxed recently.
She needed to take on more high-level bounties from the Military Department to adapt to the power she’d acquired after breaking through to the 3-Ring level.
