Chapter 52: Chapter 52 : The suspicious adults

Eiden stood still, one hand holding onto Miss Mika’s as he helped her up from the ground. There was silence between them an awkward one. Though his face remained composed, inside, he felt a twinge of discomfort. After all, he had seen her before. He knew. He knew she was cheating with his dad. Still, he kept his cool. As he pulled her up to her feet, she quickly dusted off her clothes. Eiden gave a short, apologetic nod. "I’m sorry. I was distracted. Are you okay?" he asked, keeping his tone polite.

Miss Mika paused, locking eyes with him. There was a flicker of something unreadable in her gaze complicated, layered but her voice was flat when she finally responded. "It’s okay," she said with a nonchalant tone, then turned around and walked away.

Eiden didn’t look back. He didn’t call after her either. He simply descended the stairs, his expression unreadable but his mind troubled.

That’s it? he thought. Really?

He tried to shrug it off but couldn’t help analyzing it. If she were just another student, then yeah ’It’s okay’ would’ve been normal. But she’s a teacher. Even if she didn’t want to scold me, a basic "Be careful where you walk" or "Watch it next time" would’ve made more sense. Isn’t it weird that she said nothing?

His brows furrowed as the strangeness settled deeper in his chest.

He walked aimlessly for a moment, considering going to the cafeteria, but quickly dismissed the thought. The memory of that suffocatingly awkward air with Linda and Lyra was still fresh. He had no desire to walk into that again. Especially since, according to the map, Lyra was already there. So instead, he made the quiet decision to head to his next class early.

Inside the classroom, it was peaceful, with only the sound of faint murmurs from the corridor and the occasional clack of shoes. Eiden sat at his desk, pulled out his phone, and scrolled lazily.

He found himself looking through a group chat one with nearly 2000 members. It seemed to be some kind of informal college-wide chatroom, where random students had added one another over time. The topics were chaotic, from memes to rants to wild rumors. But as he flicked his thumb across the screen, one discussion in particular caught his eye.

Ruel. That name kept popping up. Curious, Eiden slowed his scrolling, reading more carefully. According to the thread, Ruel had been spotted frequenting certain bars and nightclubs in the city. But more importantly, the group was buzzing about the now-infamous sex tape leak involving him.

Apparently, Ruel’s family was still on the hunt for the "perpetrator." They had gone public with the claim that the leaked video was part of a targeted attack by business rivals, aiming to damage their reputation by using their son.

Eiden scoffed at the excuse. What a blatant pile of bullshit. The more he read, the more annoyed he became. They’re really trying to make it seem like the video is fake? Just because they can’t figure out who leaked it? Seriously? Blaming some imaginary "organized group" of business enemies? The shameless crap these people come up with is insane.

He shook his head, unable to suppress a dry chuckle at the ridiculous narrative being pushed. As he read further, the lies only got more elaborate. From fabricated timelines to wild accusations about "hacked devices," the Ruel family seemed determined to bury the truth under an avalanche of misinformation.

Eiden finally locked his phone and put it away, just as the bell rang. The classroom began to fill, and the teacher arrived, signaling the start of the next session. After class ended, he exited the room and immediately spotted Deuel waiting for him outside, leaning casually against the wall.

"Yo, ended early?" Eiden asked. Deuel nodded, and the two fell into step beside each other. They headed toward Harry’s class, and before long, John and Petter had joined them. Together, the group made their way out, having decided to visit an arcade after school.

They traveled to a nearby city arcade one of the larger ones in the area. The place was buzzing with energy, full of neon lights and the distinct hum of machines. Groups of students, kids, and young adults filled the hall, laughter and excitement echoing all around.

Eiden and his friends played a variety of games sometimes against other players, sometimes against each other. From claw machines to rhythm games to high-speed racers, the group bounced from one corner of the arcade to another, caught in the flow of fun.

Even Eiden found himself genuinely enjoying it. For a while, his mind drifted away from thoughts of Linda, Lyra, Mika, or even the system.

But then he noticed someone. At first, it was just a fleeting glance. A silhouette in the distance. Someone familiar, though he couldn’t quite make out who. The face was blurred by distance and movement, but something about the posture, the shape it tugged at Eiden’s instincts.

He didn’t ignore it. "Hey, I’m going to the bathroom," he said to his friends. They barely noticed, waving him off as they continued their game.

Eiden slowly moved in the direction the figure had gone, weaving between machines and people. He glanced around, scanning the area with a practiced eye. After a few minutes of subtle searching, he saw him again this time clearly.

His eyes widened. Dad? There was no mistaking it. That was Algir Mores. His father. What the hell is he doing here? Sure, his dad had played games with him back when he was a kid, but he wasn’t the kind of guy who would go to an arcade in his spare time. Not now. Not alone.

Eiden’s mind raced as he instinctively began following from a distance. A few minutes later, Algir met with a woman someone who appeared to be an employee at the arcade. The moment she saw him, she hugged him without hesitation. Eiden’s brow twitched. Another one of his harem?

He glanced toward the floating system screen instinctively, half-expecting a notification.

But nothing came. No system alert. No target. No points. No quests.

So... she wasn’t romantically linked to his dad in that way? That only made things more confusing. He continued to watch as the two exchanged a few words, then disappeared together into a staff-only room. Eiden hesitated. There was no way he could follow them in there.

He stood there for a while, thinking, observing, but eventually gave up and returned to his friends. They played for a bit longer before deciding to call it a day. The energy had worn down, and everyone was getting hungry or tired.

But the entire time, Eiden remained half-distracted. His eyes scanned the crowd repeatedly, hoping to spot his dad again. But Algir was nowhere to be seen. He had vanished after entering that staff room.

Eventually, the boys parted ways and returned to their respective homes. Eiden walked alone. The city lights were starting to dim as the evening deepened. The breeze was cooler now. As he approached his neighborhood, he spotted a familiar figure ahead on the sidewalk.

It was his mother. He raised his hand, about to call out "Mom" But he paused. In her hand was a bag. A very, very familiar bag. His eyes narrowed as a spark of recognition lit up in his mind. Wait... isn’t that the same bag she used to keep her disguise in?

The one she used when she was stalking Dad and Miss Mika before? Eiden froze. His mind raced. The pieces started connecting again and the uneasy feeling in his gut returned, stronger this time.

What the hell is going on?
