Chapter 66. Detective Tai Tai! Over and Out!

Chapter 66: 66. Detective Tai Tai! Over and Out!

"Huh?" Tai Yang muttered as she gaped at nothing. The man she was talking to had suddenly vanished, just within the three to five minutes period that she was busy welcoming other customers.

Tai Yang looked around the outside area of the inn but Aaron was nowhere in sight. It was at this time that a shroud of worry came upon her.

As the head courtesan of the Inn of 1000 Pleasures, one of her most important duties was to maintain decorum within the territory of the inn. Luckily, she had been diligent in executing that function of hers. However, to do that she had to actively come to know the clients of the establishment and Aaron was not one of them.

Letting Aaron disappear without any idea why he came to the inn in the first place was an oversight on her part. Should anything go wrong now, it would be unforgivable on her part as well.

Tai Yang had gone around the outside area of the part of the inn where he met Aaron but found nothing. She walked towards Tai Tai, who was still busy trying to arrange her hair into the perfect order that it was before Tai Yang tousled it.

"Tai Tai dear," Tai Yang called for her younger companion.

"Yes, big sister Tai Yang," Tai Tai answered, hurrying towards Tai Yang with her hand still busy on her head.

Tai Tai glanced at the fine, young woman whom she regarded as an older sister and asked, "What troubles big sister Tai Yang?"

Tai Yang shut her eyes and shook her head as if denying the obvious look of worry that Tai Tai had noticed on her face. Tai Tai may be overly playful and active, that makes people think she’s childish, but that didn’t mean that she didn’t recognise what was serious and what wasn’t.

"Big sister Tai Yang is lying!" she exclaimed, stamping a foot on the ground.

"Big sister Tai Yang’s face is sad. So big sister Tai Yang has a problem she doesn’t want Tai Tai to know."

Tai Yang opened her eyes, after hearing all these, and smiled. Tai Tai was concerned about her because of how gloomy her face had turned, thanks to Aaron Winters.

Tai Yang crouched before Tai Tai and caressed the deltoid area of both her arms gently, giving her warmth.

"I need you to do something for me, Tai Tai," she said. "It will be a secret mission between us. Agreed?"

Tai Tai, without even thinking about what the request could possibly be, nodded.

"Mhm. Tai Tai will do whatever big sister Tai Yang wants."

Tai Yang was happy that she was not just going to help her find Aaron, but she was also willing to keep it a secret between the two of them.

Tai Yang covered the side of her mouth. "Come closer," she whispered to Tai Tai while also gesturing for her to advance a bit more forward.

Tai Tai did as she wanted and moved closer.

Tai Yang subtly looked around, making sure that none of the other ladies were taking peeks at them.

"Help big sister find that handsome man that was just here," she whispered to Tai Tai.

The green-haired girl bent sideways and looked forward, beyond Tai Yang. She had not noticed that Aaron was gone, only confirming this when she looked at the spot she remembered him standing at.

Tai Tai shifted her gaze back to Tai Yang and made a curious face.

"Big sister Tai Yang."

Tai Yang nodded.

"Do you like the beautiful brother?" Tai Tai asked her out of the blues, instantly throwing her off.

Tai Yang ahemmed and tried to respond but froze. She didn’t know what to say for several seconds and after a short while, she cleared her throat again.

"Ahem. No, I don’t. I just want to discuss some business matters with him."

Tai Tai scoffed. "Pfft. Liar!"

Tai Yang patted Tai Tai’s arm. "Tai Tai."

Tai Tai looked to the ground, feeling remorseful for calling Tai Yang a liar.

"Sorry, big sister Tai Yang," she apologised. "Please don’t be mad."

Tai Yang hushed her with a finger on her lips. "Shh. I’m not angry, Tai Tai," she said. "So will you do our secret mission?"

"Mhm. I will," Tai Tai assured her. "Will I get to be Detective Tai Tai?"

Tai Yang unknowingly laughed out loud when she asked her the question but composed herself just a second later. She nodded and put her hand on Tai Tai’s hair.

"Yes. You can be a detective," she said. She was about to ruffle her hair when Tai Tai quickly removed her hand and walked past her.

Tai Tai hopped happily on her way towards the entrance of the inn, humming the glorious praises of Detective Tai Tai.

She posed and raised an arm up like one who had won a trophy.

"Make way! Detective Tai Tai coming through!"

Tai Yang facepalmed. "It’s supposed to be a secret mission," she mouthed as she shook her head in disappointment.

After observing Tai Tai as she entered back into the inn, Tai Yang followed suit just a few minutes later with the ladies, who were working, bowing in deference to her as she unhurriedly moved past them with grace.

Tai Yang entered the inn, ushering herself into the central hall. The central hall was the first place one would encounter if they walked through the main entrance of the inn.

It was massive and split into a right and left side by the hallway in the middle of the hall. On each side of the hall were tables, mostly rectangular and circle-shaped, surrounded by chairs averaging a maximum of about four clients per table.

Some metres ahead of the entrance was a stage for the live performances by different music enthusiasts of the Herb village and beyond.

The central hall was the beginning of life inside the inn and played a major role in keeping the customers coming. Right now, it was empty.

As Tai Yang glanced through the hall, she could only see a handful of people seated and enjoying their food.

She wasn’t bothered by the small number of clients as the inn hardly bustled during the day. However, whenever dusk came, it was a different ball game entirely.

Tai Yang sighed.

"He’s not here either."
