Chapter 84: Interactions With The Night Part 43

The ground rumbled beneath his boots as the next wave came crawling in.

This time, it was the Crawlers.

Unlike the Jumpers, they weren’t fast—but their ability move sideways were top notch.

They darted side to side, moving low, changing direction in a blink. Hard to pin down. Harder to hit.

Luck stepped back, narrowed his eyes, and planted his stance.

One came from the left—he slashed it down.

Two more from the front—he parried, spun, and caught them both in a wide arc.

But another slipped past.

Its claw reached for his leg, almost caught it—but he leapt back just in time.

"Tch... annoying little freaks."

Another wave lunged. He ducked, rolled forward, and countered fast—his sword slicing through one’s chest as the others scattered.

Their coordination was brutal. Always circling, never rushing alone. A pack mentality.

He gritted his teeth, feeling the pressure mount.

For every one he killed, more filled the space.

"Fine..."

He took a slow breath.

"Let’s see how well you crawl after this."

He slammed the tip of his sword into the ground and muttered, "Demonic Giant Body Technique... Raging Earth"

In one motion, he yanked the sword free and drove it down hard—cracking the ground beneath his feet.

A shockwave exploded upward, sending debris shooting out like bullets.

Crawlers were shredded mid air.

The ground shook for another second before settling, leaving only silence and broken bodies around him.

He took the opening and sprinted back toward the wall.

Zombies blocked the path, packed tight in front of him—but he didn’t slow down.

Luck jumped from one head to another, using their shoulders and skulls like stepping stones.

Each landing was quick and light.

He reached the watchtower, climbed up fast, and without missing a beat, grabbed a bow.

One deep breath. Next, he drew an arrow and started firing controlled shots. Each one found its mark.

"Don’t stop firing! Wipe out every last one of these pests!"

Time passed, and the wave finally ended—at least for now.

People dropped their weapons and reached for food, water—whatever they could find.

No one spoke much. Just quiet chewing, gulping, the sound of tired bodies trying to recover.

They knew it wasn’t over.

This was just a break before the next storm.

Kana and Luck returned to the motel, exhausted.

His muscles burned with every step. Breathing felt heavier, slower.

Even with all his training, his body wasn’t built to fight nonstop without rest.

Luck decided to head to his office first, wanting to check the Golden Box.

Inside, he found a single item—a red stone, warm to the touch.

Confused, he lifted it with his right hand.

A faint glow pulsed from its surface.

[Upgrade Stone Rare: Armor Type]

[A rare enhancement stone used to upgrade armor beyond its current limits.]

[Increases defense, durability, and adds a random bonus effect depending on the armor type. Can only be used once. Cannot be traded or sold.]

[Warning: Using this stone on low-quality armor may destroy the item. Best used on Rare or higher-grade gear.]

"Better than nothing," he muttered with a small chuckle, then tapped the stone against his Midnight Coat.

A flash of light burst from the point of contact.

Shimmering softly, the coat’s threads morphed—dark fabric growing heavier and tougher.

The glow faded, leaving it looking almost the same, but he could feel the difference.

It felt lighter. More comfortable.

When he ran his fingers across the fabric, another window pop up.

[Midnight Coat +1]

[+10% Durability]

[+15% Comfort]

[+10% Evasion]

[Bonus Effect: Shroud]

[Shroud]: During nighttime, the user can activate this ability for one minute. While active, the user could hid in the shadows and completely erases presence—perfect for stealth, escape, or surprise attacks.

Luck stared at the screen, grinning.

"Well damn... now that’s what I’m talking about."

He flexed his shoulders, feeling the coat settle perfectly against his body

’Shroud, huh?’ he muttered, eyes gleaming. ’Guess I’ll be a ghost at night.’

After he finished admiring his upgraded coat, he moved over to the laptop and opened the store.

He searched through the listings, eyes scanning for ki recovery pills.

Most of the cheap ones came with a catch. They could refill ki quickly, but the side effects were rough.

After taking one, the user would feel weak for at least an hour.

The high-end pills didn’t have those drawbacks, but the price was way out of reach.

With a sigh, he bought two of the cheaper kind. One for himself, and one for Kana—just in case.

Luck exited the office and found her mediating.

He handed her a pill.

"What’s this?" she asked.

"Special energy booster. Military-grade stuff. Use it only if your life’s in danger. It’ll give you a quick burst, but... there’s a side effect. After it wears off, you’ll feel weak for a while."

Kana nodded slowly, slipping it into her pocket without asking more.

She trusted him. That was enough.

A knock echoed at the door. Another wave was coming.

Up on the watchtower, movement stirred in the distance.

Zombies. This time, fewer in number.

The overwhelming swarm from before had only happened because of that talking zombie.

Still, no one let their guard down.

They shot quickly, clearing out the stragglers before more could show up.

Hours passed.

No one slept. Not even for a moment.

Only when the first light of dawn touched the edge of the horizon did they finally breathe a little easier.

"We made it," one survivor muttered.

The words were soft, almost lost in the breeze—but they hit like a switch.

One by one, shoulders relaxed. Eyes drooped. The tension that had kept them upright all night finally cracked.

Like a domino effect, the exhaustion set in.

No cheers. No loud celebration.

Jus relief—and the overwhelming need to rest.

Seeing everyone start to doze off, Jun stepped forward and raised his voice.

"Shift change! Everyone rotate—make sure each watchtower has at least one lookout!"

There was no argument. Just tired nods and slow movements as the survivors followed orders.

[Congratulations! You have survived Night 8]

[Survivors 31/31]

[Daily Rewards]

[310 EC - Survivor Allowance]

’Finally,’ Luck muttered as he collapsed onto the bed, exhaustion hitting him all at once.

Kana dropped beside him without a word, just as drained.

Neither bothered to move.
