Chapter 642: Chapter 642
After returning to the city with Zhang Yulan, Yang Fan simply picked a hotel and walked in.
However, as soon as he entered the hotel lobby, he did not go to check-in. Instead, he spun his body sharply and stood sideways behind a large vase next to the entrance, peering outside.
"Fanzi, come here, what are you doing standing there!" Zhang Yulan asked.
Yang Fan glanced at the receptionist who had just risen from bed and still looked sleepy, giving Zhang Yulan a meaningful look, "Sister Lan, you check out the room first, I’ll wait here for you."
Zhang Yulan looked slightly stunned but then nodded her head and asked the receptionist, "Do you have rooms on the first or second floor?"
"We definitely don’t have any on the first floor. As you can see, it’s such a small space. Let me check the second floor... second floor, there are a few triple rooms left, suites. Do you want them?" the receptionist said after checking the computer.
Zhang Yulan nodded, "Take me upstairs to see the room first."
"Alright." The receptionist nodded, with a hint of suspicion glancing towards Yang Fan, whose posture seemed somewhat sneaky, "Sir, wouldn’t you like to... come up and take a look too?"
"We’ve been tagged by a few drunks, just making sure they didn’t follow us," Yang Fan gestured toward the monitors inside the lobby and said, "Don’t worry about anything happening. With three or four cameras here, you can see everything clearly, no reason to be scared. But if those drunks followed us in, it would be a headache for us both."
Although there were no drunks, Yang Fan felt like they were indeed being followed.
Since leaving the farm restaurant, two cars had been trailing behind them.
At first, Yang didn’t pay much attention, but after entering the city and taking several detours, one car still remained on their trail, which made him suspicious.
The somewhat plump receptionist grew nervous upon hearing this, "Then you really need to watch carefully. If they come here, hurry up and call me, and I’ll lock the door. Those drunks, I think they are even more troublesome than robbers. They can really give you a headache; I’ve encountered them several times on the night shift. You can’t reason with them at all."
Without needing further explanation from Yang, the receptionist became even more nervous at the mention of "drunks."
"I’m worried too; otherwise, why would I be hiding here to watch." Yang Fan nodded in agreement.
Zhang Yulan cast a meaningful look at Yang Fan before going upstairs with the receptionist.
At this moment, there were still quite a few cars on the street.
In just a couple of minutes, three cars had stopped nearby.
Two of them parked on the opposite side of the road, and one in front of the hotel.
The night was somewhat dark, and the lights from those three cars were fairly bright, making it hard for Yang to discern whether the car that had been following them was one of them.
But after watching for a while, no one got out of the three vehicles.
Soon after, Zhang Yulan came down with the receptionist.
The receptionist asked with concern, "Sir, did those drunks follow you here?"
"It doesn’t seem like it." Yang Fan shook his head, then turned to Zhang Yulan and asked, "How is the room?"
"It’s pretty good, I think we should just stay here," Zhang Yulan replied, giving Yang Fan a nod.
In fact, Yang Fan didn’t understand the meaning behind her nod.
Their communication earlier was too brief; in fact, neither had fully understood what the other was trying to say.
Yang Fan looked again at the three cars outside and then agreed, "Then let’s stay."
He even started to suspect whether all three cars opposite were involved.
If they leave now, the other party will definitely continue to follow, and it will be extremely difficult to shake them off.
Let’s just stay for a while and see if there’s a back door or something.
At this moment, even forfeiting some room fees doesn’t matter.
The check-in process was handled very quickly, and it took less than a moment to complete.
After Yang Fan paid, he went upstairs with Zhang Yulan.
"Fanzi, we were being followed just now, right?" Zhang Yulan asked in a low voice after entering the room.
Yang Fan nodded, "Since we left the farm restaurant, there were two cars that have been following us. After entering the city, we took several turns through less frequented alleys, but one car kept on our tail. I suspect we’ve been targeted, but now there are three cars parked outside, and I can’t be sure if any of them are the one."
Zhang Yulan cracked the curtains open a sliver and said to Yang Fan, "Fanzi, it’s those two cars across the street and the one downstairs, right?"
"This room faces the street?" Yang Fan asked in surprise and also walked over to the window.
Zhang Yulan nodded, "I chose it on purpose."
Yang Fan looked astonished and said with a wry smile, "Sister Lan, we have really thought too carelessly this time. If I were the one watching outside, I could guess which room we are in by the lights on in the hotel now."
Zhang Yulan smiled faintly, "We didn’t really think incorrectly."
"I just inquired, and it turns out this small hotel actually has a parking lot. If you go down the corridor over there, you’ll get to the backyard. We can leave the lights in our room on, then sneak out through the yard. We’ll leave the car here. What do you think of this plan?"
Yang Fan’s eyes lit up immediately, and he gave Zhang Yulan an enthusiastic thumbs up, "You truly live up to your reputation as Sister Lan, the one who can come up with so many innovative ideas. Your plan is thorough and brilliant. Moreover, I only briefly hinted with a few words, and you instantly understood exactly what I meant, which is even more impressive."
Zhang Yulan said, "The words you said, and the look in your eyes, weren’t they meant to tell me we were being tracked? The most important message in your two sentences just now seemed to be about us being followed, right?"
Yang Fan exclaimed with genuine admiration, "Sister Lan, I must admit that there’s a real reason for you being such a powerful woman."
Zhang Yulan’s ability to extract essential information and her responsiveness were indeed fast.
"Let’s go, we should leave this place first," Yang Fan said, grabbing Zhang Yulan’s hand.
"Okay."
The two left the room and grandly made their way to the other side of the corridor, descending three or four steps to a large courtyard that was dimly lit by only two faint lights, casting very vague shadows.
The yard was large, possibly having been something else in the past and now retained a few bungalows; it was currently being used as a public parking lot.
Yang Fan and Zhang Yulan walked in the darkness, heading towards the exit.
The exit of the parking lot was about a hundred steps or so from the north side of the hotel. From here, you could get a clearer view of those cars parked by the roadside, their lights still brightly lit, as if no one had gotten out.
Yang Fan, with Zhang Yulan by his side, hid in the shadows, carefully scanning their surroundings, but they didn’t spot a single person.
"Fanzi, look!"
Just at that moment, Zhang Yulan suddenly gripped Yang Fan’s arm tightly.
Yang Fan had already seen it.
People were finally getting out of the car opposite.
Four individuals, masked, with knives!
