Chapter 639
Chapter 639: Chapter 639
Yang Fan meticulously reviewed the entire incident time and again, but now from Chen Zhong’s perspective.
However, he was quite aware that there was indeed a discrepancy in level between him and Chen Zhong.
The means at Chen Zhong’s disposal were definitely far more than what he could come up with.
But as far as what he could think of at the moment, maybe the real test was just beginning.
Chen Zhong was now racing against time.
He needed to plug this life-threatening hole before his dirty laundry started fermenting massively online.
Only by dealing with the two troublemakers, Yang Fan and Zhang Yulan, would he have the spare capacity and opportunity to utilize his resources and influence to address what had already surfaced online.
Once the people were dealt with, the matter would become relatively simple.
It would just be a matter of finding an excuse to suppress what had appeared online.
For example, by claiming it was fabricated, or perhaps that some disgruntled citizen was intentionally slandering him out of resentment—there were numerous ways to go about it.
These are the potential measures he might take in retaliation against Zhang Yulan.
As for the testimony from Lu Qiuyang...
Yang Fan couldn’t think of any means Chen Zhong would use in that regard, considering the evidence was pretty much dead by now.
What he could rely on and utilize were probably just his network of connections and his clout.
The consideration here, just as Xiang Xue Ting had just said, was to see what attitude Chen Zhong’s network held towards him now, to see if they felt the need to distance themselves from Chen Zhong or if they believed Chen Zhong could smooth things over.
Yang Fan covered his forehead, bitterly smiling with a bit of a headache: "This really is a headache!"
"Brother Fanzi, don’t worry too much, things have taken such a big turn for the better, victory will definitely be ours," Xiang Xue Ting shouted animatedly, her outburst nearly catching Yang Fan off guard.
She was very optimistic.
But Yang Fan truly couldn’t bring himself to be optimistic.
Next, if nothing unexpected happened, both he and Zhang Yulan would face significant threats to their lives.
If the issues couldn’t be resolved, dealing with the troublemakers was a favorite pastime of those in power and influence.
Moreover, in Chen Zhong’s eyes, he was already marked for death.
The means Chen Zhong used against him next would certainly be more intense.
Rubbing his sore temples, Yang Fan chuckled lightly: "Forget it, no more thinking about these issues. How about going for another round?"
Xiang Xue Ting, caught off guard, forced a smile and said: "Brother Fanzi, are you trying to kill me? I really can’t do it today. We just went at it for nearly three hours; I feel like I’m about to collapse."
"That won’t do," Yang Fan teased on purpose.
The corners of Xiang Xue Ting’s mouth that were already pursed drooped even more, "Right now I’m just a bit... somewhat... unable to keep up. Give me some time, once I get used to your intensity, I will definitely drain you dry."
"Good, I look forward to that," Yang Fan said with a light laugh.
After some affectionate time in the hotel, they both took a hot shower together before going their separate ways. Xiang Xue Ting continued on to work, while Yang Fan rode his motor-tricycle to a farm restaurant in the suburbs.
Zhang Yulan was recently staying there.
Surrounding Xin’an County were many farm restaurants named after tea. As a place whose pillar industries included tea leaves and medicinal herbs, this was one of Xin’an’s noticeable characteristics.
Following the navigation, Yang Fan easily found the farm restaurant surrounded by fields, oozing with a strong rural charm.
This farm restaurant was indeed true to its name, situated in the outskirts of the suburbs, deep into the village.
Passing through an area full of tables and chairs, Yang Fan parked his three-wheeled bike at the designated spot before heading towards the main entrance.
The place filled with tables and chairs seemed to be the dining area of the farm restaurant.
It had a distinctive charm, dining practically on the farm ridges, with vast green fields stretching out in front.
At the entrance, Yang Fan called Zhang Yulan.
The place was winding and expansive, and without guidance, Yang Fan would surely get lost looking for anyone.
"Fanzi, over here!"
Zhang Yulan’s voice came from the left side.
Turning his head, Yang Fan saw Zhang Yulan wearing an apron, carrying a basket full of various fruits and vegetables, and her head was wrapped in a headscarf, hiding her luscious black hair.
"What are you up to?" Yang Fan asked in surprise.
"Harvesting vegetables," Zhang Yulan said with a smile, "Come on, join in. I had just started picking when I received your call."
Yang Fan nodded blankly, somewhat puzzled.
Was this a project of the farm restaurant?
Experiencing the joy of picking?
Following Zhang Yulan around the white wall, an enormous vegetable plot came into view.
All kinds of vegetables filled the area, growing robustly and looking ready for a bountiful harvest.
"Fanzi, what do you think of my vegetable garden?" Zhang Yulan asked as she set the basket down.
"Yours?!" Yang Fan asked in astonishment.
"Yes, I was idle and just tinkered around, opening a little store," Zhang Yulan said nonchalantly.
Yang Fan laughed and said, "I realize now you’re truly someone who has money to be capricious. Getting bored and just opening a shop on a whim. I was actually thinking this might be some feature of the farm restaurant, something like experiencing the fun of picking."
"Well, there actually is one," Zhang Yulan said with a smile, "but this vegetable garden is mine."
"What should we pick?" Yang Fan asked.
"Anything at all. I was just bored and came out to help the kitchen gather some ingredients for today’s meal," Zhang Yulan explained, "Pick whatever looks good to you, whatever you’d like to eat, I’ll instruct the kitchen to make it for you later. All of this is pure and pollution-free, you know."
Yang Fan chuckled, "Sister Lan, this isn’t exactly new to me."
"I forgot about that. Indeed, this is nothing novel for you," Zhang Yulan said with a laugh.
Yang Fan himself was from a rural area, where the produce was even more natural.
"Sister Lan, did you move here because you were worried about Chen Zhong seeking revenge?" Yang Fan asked while picking tomatoes.
Zhang Yulan’s expression turned more solemn as she nodded, "That person, when cornered, is capable of anything. He repeatedly threatened to make me ’disappear from the human world’; this time, he surely intends to follow through."
"He’s not even willing to go through the negotiation process?" Yang Fan asked, frowning.
Zhang Yulan nodded, "There was, he offered me three million to delete those things off the internet and to issue an apology statement, which I did not accept. If I apologized, wouldn’t it appear that I was the one at fault? If I ever want to take action like this in the future, there would be no leeway left for me."
"My condition to him was three million and to give up any vengeance against both you and me. He said he’d consider it. For now, there’s no response, but I feel there’s little chance he’ll agree; he’ll surely choose an extreme approach this time."
"Killing the two of us would be not only more convenient but also cheaper for him."
"Sister Lan, did you use such a tactic before?" Yang Fan inquired.
