Chapter 599: Chapter 599
"Inner Qi can only be obtained through perception?" Yang Fan asked with a hint of doubt.
Mr. Fan nodded, "Yes, that’s the only way. Perception is essentially meditation, but the path of cultivation I practice is not about deliberately mobilizing and feeling the Qi around the body to nourish oneself and transform the natural energy into one’s own Inner Qi. Instead, during our cultivation and perception of magic, some corresponding acupoints around our body will open, swallowing and transforming the natural energy into our own Inner Qi."
"This step is much simpler compared to the cultivation techniques of some factions. Once you’ve mastered a few spells, I can approximately guess what level your Inner Qi strength has reached. Those with natural talent might have a bit more, and those less so will have less Inner Qi, but this difference is not very pronounced at the beginning of one’s cultivation journey—it’s like the difference between a single strand of hair and a few strands, not too exaggerated."
Yang Fan’s brows lightly furrowed; it seemed he was on the right path, yet there was a significant difference.
"Mr. Fan, this is the only way, which means it’s absolutely impossible to grow stronger through other methods? Like becoming stronger by killing Mysterious creatures," Yang Fan tentatively asked.
His Inner Qi wasn’t actually gained through his own perception, but had arisen after he chopped down those few Mysterious creatures. Furthermore, it had advanced from level one to two in a short amount of time, from a tiny amount to the current thickness of a little finger.
Mr. Fan gave Yang Fan a look, "Instead of reading those novels, you should focus on cultivation. If there were such methods, I, an old man, would probably be a master by now, perhaps already capable of flying and escaping the earth."
"There are no shortcuts on this path. If you feel that your strength progression is too slow, then spend a few more hours per day on perception. Don’t think about those irrelevant things. Seeking shortcuts on this path only brings detriment, not benefits."
"But I... Alright," Yang Fan spoke, then swallowed his words back down.
He would study this further.
The truth was, he really did rely on killing Mysterious creatures to increase his Inner Qi, which seemed more like a predatory growth.
Plundering the lives of Mysterious creatures to advance his own strength.
He would test it out again. If he could figure it out, great; if not, he would go back to Mr. Fan for further research.
"Be wary of undue haste and recklessness. The way of cultivation is like eating and drinking—each step must be taken firmly and solidly. Eating too quickly can lead to choking, and the consequences of rushing on the path of cultivation are far more serious than choking on your food," Mr. Fan seriously warned, probably worried that Yang Fan hadn’t taken his words to heart.
Yang Fan nodded earnestly, "I understand, Mr. Fan."
"Hmm, let’s go," Mr. Fan said, satisfied. He then pointed to the orchid on the table and instructed, "Take that with you. After you go back, place it in a dimly lit corner where the sunlight is not too strong and irrigate it with Inner Qi from time to time."
"When its flowers are about to wither, pick them to make tea. That young lady took very good care of this little orchid. Using its flowers to make tea will have great nourishing effects on your body."
Yang Fan responded with a nod and hugged the orchid, which had lost half a leaf to his hand, to his chest.
He had always thought that the young lady had some connection to this orchid.
It turned out, the young lady had just been raising it, and over that lengthy period, the orchid had become a symbol of the young lady’s spirit, her companion.
"Mr. Fan, can other people drink this flower tea?" Yang Fan asked.
Mr. Fan nodded, "They can. For people with problems in their Three Yin Meridians, drinking this can cure illnesses. As long as it’s not a chronic disease, it’s essentially ’the right medicine for the ailment.’ If you can’t bear to drink it, then dry it in the shade and save it for future use to save others."
The Three Yin Meridians are among the three major meridians in the human body, classified as Taiyin, Shaoyin, and Jue Yin.
The positions corresponding to diseases are all within the five viscera.
"We came to confront someone and ended up actually receiving their kindness for no reason," Yang Fan shook his head and commented with a wry smile.
Mr. Fan glanced at Yang Fan, "You kid dragged me here in the middle of the night, doesn’t that count as a favor to her? I didn’t charge a penny to take her over there, and she might very well come back as an official, doesn’t that count as a favor?"
Yang Fan chuckled, "If we’re going by your logic, then it seems about right."
"What do you mean ’about right’? It is right, come on, let’s go for some late-night eats," Mr. Fan snorted lightly, folded his hands behind his back, and strode down the stairs.
Outside the villa, Old Zhou and the others were still waiting with nervousness and anxiety.
The unknown always seems twice as terrifying.
Previously, Old Zhou had been extremely curious and asked Yang Fan for a long time, but didn’t manage to get any useful information in the end; however, his reverence for the unknown had increased significantly, prompting him to wholly discard any casual thoughts.
"Everything’s truly settled now," Yang Fan reiterated the instructions Mr. Fan had given to Old Zhou.
Old Zhou nodded vigorously, quickly agreeing, and after double-checking with Yang Fan to make sure he had remembered everything correctly, he finally happily expressed his thanks to Mr. Fan, "Mr. Fan, thank you, thank you. We both can finally relax. This house is worth over one hundred thousand, and it would have been quite painful to keep it going like this."
"Thank him, not me. I came here because of this kid, it doesn’t matter whether you thank me or not," Mr. Fan casually pointed towards Yang Fan and walked towards the car with his hands behind his back.
Old Zhou hurriedly stopped him and said, "Mr. Fan, I’ve already ordered some late-night snacks, how about you join us for a bite and a couple of drinks?"
Mr. Fan looked towards Yang Fan, seeking his opinion.
Yang Fan laughed and said, "Let’s go then, elder. Old Zhou is responsible for the food, I’ll take care of the drinks."
"I’ve already got the drinks ready, definitely enough to go around," Old Zhou added with a smile from the side.
Yang Fan was amused, "Old Zhou, you’re too much on point, even taking over my part?"
"There’s no mine or yours between us two. Let’s get moving," Old Zhou casually glanced at Gao Yunshan and coughed lightly before speaking, "You go first with elder Fan, I’ll drive and bring Lin’er and her sister along. I’ve sent you the location and the reservation details; we’ll follow shortly after."
"No worries, we’ll wait here," Yang Fan replied.
He knew what Old Zhou meant, he was facilitating things for him.
With Fan Sisi as the driver and Mr. Fan in the car, if he brought Gao Yunshan along, it would spoil the mood.
Even someone with the slowest intuition would definitely sense that something was off.
Such matters were naturally to be avoided if possible.
Yang Fan lit a cigarette by the roadside and waited for a bit. After Old Zhou arrived, Duan Linlin and Gao Yunshan got into the car, and then Yang Fan boarded the vehicle. The group, split between two cars, headed for the location Old Zhou had arranged.
Fan Sisi didn’t seem to notice the oddity just now, and as soon as Yang Fan got in the car, she curiously asked him about what had happened earlier.
