Chapter 525: Chapter 525

The matter was settled in the morning, the person slipped away at the crack of dawn.

Even though there was quite some fun last night, and it was late.

But Yang Fan woke up just after eight the next morning, washed up, and bolted straight away.

He was already out of the building when Xiao Liu realized that Yang Fan seemed to have left and hurriedly made a phone call.

Yang Fan crouched on the curb, lit a cigarette, and answered Xiao Liu’s call.

"Brother Fanzi, did you leave?" Xiao Liu asked.

"Ah yes, I came out."

These words totally confounded Xiao Liu, who after a long pause said, "Brother Fanzi, why does it feel like you have a guilty conscience? It’s all fine, where did you go? Come back, it’s still early. I’ll have breakfast with you later, then you can go."

"You’re actually spot on, I do feel like a thief with a guilty conscience," Yang Fan laughed, "I’m afraid your Sister Yulan would corner me in the room. I spent all night thinking it over and felt it wasn’t very secure. My sudden appearance in the store, having wrapped up all the relations there in one swoop, I can’t be sure that Sister Yulan wouldn’t take an interest? If she did show up, she would definitely do me in, explanations would be useless."

This response left Xiao Liu in a state of mixed laughter and tears, "Brother Fanzi, you’re being too cautious, it’s really okay."

"Better safe than sorry, I think it’s best to stay careful. As for explanations, they’re time-consuming, laborious, and hardly pleasing, not to mention ineffective. I might as well nip it in the bud as early as possible," Yang Fan said.

Although Yang Fan and Zhang Yulan were currently just maintaining a casual relationship.

It wasn’t something one could disregard completely without any concern, this obviously wouldn’t work.

To waltz into her store when it suited him but not make time to visit, no matter the excuse, once that happened, grievances would inevitably sprout in Zhang Yulan’s heart.

So it’s better to avoid it as much as possible.

Seeing that Yang Fan was determined, Xiao Liu didn’t say anything further.

He just reminded Yang Fan about the big prize, telling him to come find her directly whenever he was free next time.

Even without a reminder, Yang Fan would have been eager about it.

After all, such a fun place.

After hanging up the phone with Xiao Liu, Yang Fan made a call to Old Zhou.

The guy was clearly not yet awake, answering the phone groggily as if he had drunk too much, his words slurred and unclear. Yang Fan kept it short, simply mentioning that he had to leave for something urgent and would visit Wei Jin another day, before hanging up without disturbing Old Zhou’s sleep any further.

Having returned to the Herb Market, Yang Fan picked up his tricycle and headed straight for Zhang Yulan’s place.

Zhang Yulan had been sending him messages occasionally, filled with a significant amount of grievances.

Since he had stumbled upon this situation, he might as well resolve it quickly.

First, to deflate some of the grievances in Zhang Yulan’s stomach, then consider other matters.

By the time the morning was well advanced, Yang Fan arrived at Zhang Yulan’s doorstep.

But the gate was locked tight, and Zhang Yulan was not there.

He had forgotten to ask before coming.

Yang Fan muttered to himself and took out his phone to call Zhang Yulan, when suddenly a head popped out from over the wall.

It wasn’t Zhang Yulan but a pear-shaped face, dark-skinned, slender-eyed man.

Yang Fan in the tricycle and the man on the wall locked eyes and both stalled on the spot.

Yang Fan stared at this man for a few seconds, his eyes gradually narrowing.

With the gate tightly locked and a man popping out, this guy’s up to no good.

Must be either a sneak thief or a burglar.

The man glanced at Yang Fan twice then agilely flipped over the wall and came down.

Then, another man’s head popped up from behind, with a wide mouth, a bulbous nose, a large head, and a somewhat dull look on his face.

At that moment, the slim-eyed man who had come down first suddenly approached Yang Fan.

"What do you do?" he asked.

Yang Fan sized up the man, glancing at the right hand he held behind his back, and said indifferently, "I deal in mountain products. Are you the owner here, or...?"

"Ah, yes, the door lock at home is broken, so I had to climb over the wall," the man chuckled dryly, moving naturally towards Yang Fan.

Yang Fan continued, "Do you have any mountain goods to sell? Herbs and tea leaves are fine, mushrooms too."

"Not at the moment, I haven’t been home for a long time." The man, with his left hand hanging down, fished a cigarette out of his pocket and offered it to Yang Fan, "Have a smoke, then leave your number. I’ll call you when I have goods."

"I’ll pass on the smoke, but I’d like to take you on!" Suddenly, Yang Fan pushed off the handlebars with both hands and, like an agile monkey, leaped off the bike, executing a bear hug that slammed the man, choking him, against the ground.

The moment they hit the ground, Yang Fan took advantage of the man’s sluggish response, grabbed his arm, flipped him over, secured the arm, and disarmed the dagger in his right hand.

That posture the lad took just now clearly showed he was hiding something in his hand.

And sure enough.

The big-headed man who had climbed up from behind saw Yang Fan suddenly strike and lunged at him, with a small dagger flashing coldly, aiming for Yang Fan’s waist.

Yang Fan caught a glimpse with the corner of his eye and swayed his body to the right, his left foot skimming the ground as he kicked out fiercely.

Although this big-headed man looked a bit dumb, his reflexes were surprisingly quick.

He lightly dodged to avoid Yang Fan’s attack, then twisted his waist sharply, changing the angle of the dagger, thrusting it towards Yang Fan’s neck.

Yang Fan’s gaze narrowed abruptly. This guy seemed to be trained.

He deliberately relaxed his stance, and the moment the adversary surged forward, his fist shot out like lightning—a feint at the neck. While the man dodged, Yang Fan landed a heavy blow on the big-headed man’s waist.

The man grunted, pain instantly registering on his face.

Yang Fan pressed the advantage, landing a punch on the man’s neck.

Thud.

A muffled sound, and the big-headed man fell heavily to the ground like a toppled bison.

Yang Fan might not have been formally trained, but his strength was immense.

He didn’t know exactly how powerful his punch was, but there probably weren’t many ordinary people who could withstand it.

Before Yang Fan could feel elated, sudden footsteps sounded from behind.

The slim-eyed man on the ground had regained consciousness.

Although Yang Fan had disarmed the man’s dagger, it didn’t guarantee the man didn’t have another one.

For safety’s sake, Yang Fan ran forward a few steps before quickly turning back to look.

And there it was!

"You’ve got quite the arsenal on you," Yang Fan cursed and, reversing direction, he purposefully leaned into the slim-eyed man’s embrace. Then, he concentrated his strength in his shoulders and thrust outward forcefully.

This was a move Yang Fan had seen on a short video before; it seemed to have a special name, but he had forgotten it.

He had used it instinctively just now.

The effect was surprisingly good—the slim-eyed guy got sent flying.
