Chapter 492
Chapter 492: Chapter 492
Watching the chubby driver hastily depart, Yang Fan chuckled and shook his head. He just wanted to remind Xiang Xue Ting that the guy had been drinking, drinking and driving, but seeing as he had already sped away, Yang Fan gave up on that thought.
Xiang Xue Ting took a bottle of water from the car and handed it to Yang Fan, "Shall we rest a bit before going to my place?"
Yang Fan nodded, "Let’s rest a bit before we go, I’m too tired."
Although the cold energy within his Dantian was quite powerful, it seemed that it didn’t alleviate the exhaustion that came after being completely spent.
The tiredness Yang Fan was experiencing wasn’t entirely physical but rather a result of excessive tension and fear causing him to be drained.
In battle, one supports themselves with sheer courage, but once one relaxes, the real feelings begin to emerge.
"Do you always deal with those things in this way?" Xiang Xue Ting suddenly asked, somewhat puzzled.
Yang Fan’s recent behavior, in her eyes, appeared more like a drunken frenzy.
Not at all displaying any of that mysterious high-pressure standard of a Yin Yang Master.
It was precisely for this reason that she insisted on Yang Fan checking her house again.
The way Yang Fan had just acted greatly diminished the high-end image she had of him in her mind, even bordering on the feeling of a charlatan. If she hadn’t known that Yang Fan had taken care of Old Mrs. Wang’s issue, she might have spoken her doubts out loud.
"How else can those things be removed if not like this? Anyway, it’s the only method I know," said Yang Fan.
As if he had a routine. He had only been dealing with these eerie and mysterious matters for a mere two or three days.
"I don’t doubt you; it just seems like your methods are quite... unique," Xiang Xue Ting said with a light laugh.
That was all she could say.
If it were someone who didn’t know Yang Fan’s capabilities, and he put on such a performance, regardless of its effectiveness, the household would probably want to kick him out without paying him a dime.
"Who cares if it’s a black cat or a white cat, as long as it catches mice, it’s a good cat," Yang Fan said with a wave of his hand.
After resting for a while, he finally regained his energy, and aside from being thirsty, his physical strength was more or less restored.
He stamped out the cigarette butt under his foot, opened the bottle of water Xiang Xue Ting had given him and drank it down in one gulp. Then he said, "This bottle of water has mollified me, so it looks like there’s no need for me to go to your house anymore. The Whisperer’s issue has been resolved, and you really don’t have anything to worry about."
"That’s not what I meant. Why don’t you still take a look at my house, just in case there’s something else..." Xiang Xue Ting said, "Seeing it with your own eyes would make me feel more at ease."
Yang Fan nodded, "Alright, then let’s go."
"The place where I live is just across the street, let’s walk over," said Xiang Xue Ting.
Yang Fan nodded.
Following Xiang Xue Ting into the lush, old neighborhood, Yang Fan suddenly felt a mysterious sense of uneasiness. Why does this place feel so creepy?
Was it because of that Whisperer?
Suddenly, Yang Fan noticed on the wall covered in ivy, a creature with a blank expression, peculiar and gecko-like, clinging there, its neck twisting downwards, its grey-white eyes staring motionlessly at Yang Fan and Xiang Xue Ting below.
A sense of realization flashed through Yang Fan’s mind. What the hell is going on here?
Just then, the creature hissed sharply and lunged down toward Yang Fan.
It seemed to have noticed Yang Fan’s gaze.
Yang Fan let out a faint sigh and, with a sudden swing of his wooden mace, simultaneously triggered the chilling breath within his Dantian.
Thump!
In a single encounter, the mysterious creature completely vanished into thin air.
"What are you doing?" Xiang Xue Ting, noticing Yang Fan’s movements, turned her head and asked.
Yang Fan casually replied, "I killed a mosquito."
Xiang Xue Ting looked at Yang Fan with a puzzled face but didn’t ask any further questions.
The two continued to ascend the stairwell of building two, plastered with a dense array of small advertisements, until they finally stopped at the fifth floor.
The neighborhood was steeped in the atmosphere of the last century, with an ancient vibe permeating everywhere.
Xiang Xue Ting opened the door, and as soon as it swung open, Yang Fan silently covered his face, stepping past Xiang Xue Ting and swiftly bringing his wooden mace down.
Thump!
The Whisperer that came to greet them at the door dissipated into smoke under the strike of Yang Fan’s wooden mace.
After dealing with the Whisperer, taking care of these ordinary mysterious creatures became much easier for Yang Fan.
Just one mace strike!
"I’ve suddenly realized that it’s truly not easy for you to be alive!" Yang Fan remarked.
There was something to greet you when entering the neighborhood, and unbelievably, another greeting when entering your own home.
The moment the door opened, the sight of the mysterious creature with its hair cascading like a waterfall, its face stiff as if it were a paper effigy, gave Yang Fan a shock. Although he was no longer afraid of such low-level creatures, their sudden appearance still created a considerable psychological impact.
Xiang Xue Ting looked at Yang Fan with uncertainty, "Did you just... fight that kind of thing?"
"It’s nothing, I was just making an offhand remark. You can take it as if I’m being mysterious, or you can think I was swatting a fly," Yang Fan said with a smile, his eyes vigilantly scanning the surroundings as he entered Xiang Xue Ting’s home.
The other areas were quite clean and tidy.
Xiang Xue Ting turned on the living room light, furrowed her brows slightly, and asked, "Just now, you were definitely fighting those things, right? Why did it seem that you struggled a lot earlier, almost to the point of exhaustion, but just now you appeared to do it with ease?"
"Humans have their strengths and weaknesses, and so do these things. There are differences in their hierarchy," Yang Fan responded offhandedly, "The one welcoming us at the door was one of the lower levels. As for the one earlier, I actually felt all along that I couldn’t handle it."
"If you choose to believe, just listen. If you don’t believe, that’s fine too, you can think that I’m intentionally deceiving you. The payment will still be as we agreed, and I won’t ask you for a penny more."
Speaking of which, Old Sir Shen should be arriving soon.
"I believe you, it’s just that I’m a bit lost now. I want to know what those things are and what they look like," Xiang Xue Ting said, "You don’t have to keep reminding me. If I didn’t believe you, I wouldn’t have asked for your help."
"You’re better off not being curious about these matters. If you knew what those things look like, or if you saw them, I’m certain you wouldn’t last a second in this neighborhood," Yang Fan said.
"Have you ever looked into what happened in this neighborhood in the past?"
As Xiang Xue Ting was heating water and placing tea leaves into a cup, she shook her head and said, "I really don’t know about the past. When I first started working, I didn’t have much savings, and the housing prices here were quite cheap, so I bought this second-hand house to save money. I’ve lived here for a while, and I haven’t heard of any serious accidents causing harm."
Yang Fan nodded, "I find it hard to believe that nothing has happened in this place."
"You might want to look into it when you have time, and it’s best to go back to before the construction of this neighborhood, or even earlier, not just limiting to the recent two decades."
