Chapter 482: Chapter 482
"First, answer me one question, and then I’ll tell you the reason!" Yang Fan said teasingly to the female police officer.
"Ask!"
"Did you just intentionally give me a hard time?" Yang Fan asked.
The female police officer waved her hand dismissively, hit Yang Fan with the paper in her hand, and glared as she spoke, "Why would I give you a hard time? All of this is necessary procedure, okay? With your statements, how am I supposed to report back? Someone dreams about committing a murder and even dreams the details, and then a homicide really happens?"
"It’s your own fault for always being slow on the uptake; honestly, aside from asking you over and over, what else can I do?"
Yang Fan nodded, "It’s my first time dealing with you guys, lacking experience; I’ll be more careful next time."
"The issue with your place is most likely that you have guests, or rather, a master, given where you live. You’d better find a Yin Yang Master to take a look. Although these matters are not very common, they can still be quite troublesome when they occur."
He had only been involved in these matters for two nights and knew very little indeed.
But as the female police officer said, his situation clearly involved whispering and nightmares; without a doubt, there was something mysterious in her home.
"How do you charge?" the female police officer’s gaze flickered, and then she asked.
Yang Fan shook his head, "I take medicine, not cases like this; my abilities are mediocre, likely insufficient for your situation."
"For such a big man, why are you so petty? I just spoke with a bit of an authoritative tone, that’s because the matter is urgent, and I’m in a hurry!" the female police officer said impatiently, "How much? I’ll hire you to take a look sometime when you’re free."
"I truly am not skilled enough," Yang Fan said.
He knew exactly how limited his capabilities were.
With his level, he was far from being able to solve other people’s problems.
"If you’re not reassured, I could recommend someone else," Yang Fan said.
"Your attitude is too grandiose! I don’t know about others, but having seen you myself, it’s clear. Cases like this are often hard to detect; if family members don’t pay attention, we definitely can’t spot them, but you know everything clearly—that’s your skill. Just name your price," the female police officer said.
"I have sought out Yin Yang Masters before, three of them, and none discovered the reason; I even visited temples, but to no avail."
Yang Fan frowned, "Then I’m even more at a loss; I really am not skilled enough."
"Okay, then I’ll just file your initial statement and you’ll see what kind of scrutiny you will face—don’t blame me!" the female police officer suddenly raised her eyebrows, "People like you are overlooked if nothing happens, but the trouble can be significant once they surface."
Yang Fan: ...
What kind of attitude is this? They wouldn’t believe the truth when told.
Although he thought this was probably just her venting, he was still worried about the potential scrutiny.
"Fine, I’ll go take a look then. There’s something wrong with you; you don’t believe the truth, just don’t blame me if anything goes awry," Yang Fan said exasperatedly.
"That would just be my own lack of judgement, nothing to do with you," the female police officer said.
"I’ll be done here soon. After work, I’ll take you there. Name your price for the consultation," the female police officer said, "By the way, my name is Xiang Xue Ting, not ’hey’ or ’oi.’"
Yang Fan nodded, though internally he felt somewhat critical; for such a hot-tempered and stubborn woman to have chosen such a gentle name.
It seemed she was a woman who had let her father down by turning out so differently.
Once he was finished on his end, Yang Fan left the yard and found a secluded corner to call Mr. Shen.
Xiang Xue Ting had latched onto him, convinced that he was capable. This issue definitely required consulting Old Sir Shen.
His modest abilities were hardly sufficient to handle such matters.
After connecting the call, Yang Fan briefly explained Xiang Xue Ting’s situation and then asked, "Old Shen, that woman now believes I’m capable of handling this issue. She also thinks I’m holding a grudge and unwilling to help. Could you quickly suggest a way for me to get out of this?"
Old Sir Shen chuckled, "The method to Open the Heavenly Eye is in the book I gave you. Fumble through it yourself. Normally, this kind of Mysterious situation involves someone trapped, playing pranks. It won’t cause much harm."
"However, it’s best to ask if there have been any suicides nearby. If there have, be cautious. It could be a Spirit Level Mysterious Whisperer. These creatures aren’t very deadly, but they’re not easy to kill and are highly contagious."
"Old Shen, since Mysterious isn’t a disease, how can it be contagious?" Yang Fan asked, puzzled.
"A Whisperer’s method of attack is through whispers, inducing people to take their own lives, transferring from one deceased to someone who has contacted the deceased. Isn’t that somewhat like being contagious?" Old Shen explained.
Yang Fan nodded in understanding, "Old Shen, I feel like I might not be able to handle this, but that woman is stubborn, and I’m at a loss. I’ll go take a look first, but if I’m out of options, you’ll have to save me."
"Since you’re so polite, and on account of the wine you brought for me and Old Liang, just give a call when it’s time," Old Shen said.
Yang Fan cheerfully agreed and then hung up the phone.
With Old Sir Shen, he felt reassured.
Ah, wait, giving wine?
When did he ever give wine?
...It was probably Little Mother or his sister-in-law’s doing.
Yang Fan shelved his thoughts and opened the book given by Old Sir Shen, finding the section on Opening the Heavenly Eye.
"Meditation Eyes... Heavenly Eye Technique..." Looking at the obscure words and pictures, Yang Fan’s expression became vacant.
Had Old Sir Shen overestimated him?
He tried sitting cross-legged, mimicking the poses in the book, pinching the Heavenly Eye Technique, reciting the Spell, and closing his eyes for visualization.
But Yang Fan couldn’t control his thoughts; within seconds, his mind wandered off.
He tried repeatedly but still couldn’t calm his mind.
Glancing at the police officers coming and going from Da Qiang’s home nearby, Yang Fan got up and slipped into the nearby cornfield.
He’d try again in a quieter setting.
Once more pinching the Heavenly Eye Technique and chanting the Spell, Yang Fan controlled his breathing and gradually steadied his thoughts.
Suddenly it seemed like the sound of the wind by his ears slowed down, and the rustling of the corn leaves changed into intermittent crisps...
Suddenly, a stream of cold energy surged up from the Dantian within Yang Fan along a unique pathway toward his eyes, gathering there with a cool sensation that made him abruptly open his eyes.
A flash of brilliance flitted across his gaze.
He knew he had successfully Opened the Heavenly Eye—this was the sensation he had felt when Old Shen had helped him before.
So quickly?
Yang Fan was astounded by his own progress.
