Chapter 313: Chapter 313
The police arrived quickly.
Yang Fan and Fan Sisi had just been talking by the bar for a while when two officers entered the establishment.
"What’s the situation here?"
A burly, well-built officer with a square face took a quick look around the shop and then asked.
Yang Fan glanced at Chen Junwei, who followed the officers in with a swagger and a somewhat fierce smile at the corners of his mouth and volunteered, "He insulted my girlfriend, so I hit him. This guy set up a marriage proposal scene in the shop without permission and rushed to propose. After being rejected, he called us a ’dog couple’ and said my girlfriend was promiscuous, among other ugly words. I couldn’t stand it and punched him a few times."
"You lying dog, you’re full of it, Fan Sisi is clearly my girlfriend!" Chen Junwei shouted, jumping up and down.
The officer turned sharply and said sternly, "Watch your language!"
Chen Junwei’s bravado suddenly dropped, and he said with a sheepish smile, "I’m just angry, this guy is lying!"
"He’s not lying!" Fan Sisi stepped forward and said, "This Mr. Chen has nothing to do with me, he’s been shamelessly pursuing me, but I’ve had a boyfriend for a long time. He keeps causing trouble because I won’t agree to him."
Hearing this, the officer seemed to understand the situation.
"Sort it out privately. Don’t disturb public order!" the officer said.
Upon hearing this, Chen Junwei’s eyes widened in disbelief, and he shouted, "Officer, they hit me, they hit me!"
"You provoked it first!" the officer said nonchalantly, "Apologize to them, and they’ll compensate you for your medical expenses. Don’t keep dragging this out."
Chen Junwei looked incredulously at the outcome and protested, "Officer, don’t you think you’re being a bit hasty in your handling of this?"
"How else am I supposed to handle it? Isn’t the situation obvious? You’re unrequitedly in love, chasing after someone else’s girlfriend, and you overstepped with your aggressive actions and insulting words. Isn’t that the truth?" the officer said with a displeased expression.
"That’s not the truth, Fan Sisi is my girlfriend, mine! Not his!" Chen Junwei yelled.
The officer stared hard at Chen Junwei, "Whether she’s yours or not, isn’t that for the girl to decide, not for you to say?"
Chen Junwei was stunned, then gave Fan Sisi a venomous look and sneered, "Bitch, your heart is really cruel!"
"Officer, what do you make of his behavior? He still has the nerve to provoke us right in front of you!" Yang Fan immediately shouted.
Yang Fan thought to himself, waiting for the opportunity to catch Chen stumbling.
"It seems his injuries aren’t severe, we can forget about the medical fees," the officer said indifferently.
"What do you mean, officer? You’re just going to let it go after I got beat up?" Chen Junwei’s emotions flared up in an instant.
With a disdainful glance, the officer said, "If you insist on making a fuss, we can only punish both parties equally: a three-day detention to reflect on your actions. Moreover, the current issue is that they are being rational, while you, you’re still provoking us."
Chen Junwei immediately shut his mouth and raised his hands, saying, "Fine, fine, fine, in light of your fair and just enforcement of the law, I won’t make a fuss. However, I reserve the right to report you, hoping that you really have no connection to them."
After dropping another harsh remark, Chen Junwei turned and walked out with the air of a general going off to war, striding meteorically out of the shop.
The square-faced officer looked after him with some distaste, then turned back to Yang Fan and Fan Sisi and said, "There’s no better way to handle this, luckily you held back and didn’t hit too hard. Next time, if he still harasses you, remember to call the police."
"Thank you, officer. That man’s mouth is just too vile, I couldn’t help it," Yang Fan said with a grin plastered on his face.
He thought to himself that he was getting off cheap today, expecting to spend at least two thousand to buy peace.
I never expected that Chen Junwei would actually come through like that, even saving him money.
"Alright, that’s it then, you guys go ahead and get busy," the officer briefly instructed before leaving.
After watching the two officers get into their car, Fan Sisi instructed the waitstaff to clean up the items in the store before closing up for the day.
"I thought we’d definitely have to spend some money," Fan Sisi said in a low voice.
"I thought so too, but who knew he would even dare to threaten a police officer, tsk tsk, his presence is quite something," Yang Fan shook his head, "I’ve got a clear picture of him now. In his world, it seems right that everyone revolves around him."
Fan Sisi glanced at Yang Fan, "Would you join me for a walk?"
"Huh? You’re still in the mood for that?" Yang Fan asked in surprise.
He thought that after what had happened, Fan Sisi surely wouldn’t have the slightest intention of doing such a thing.
Fan Sisi cracked a slight smile, "Let’s see how it goes, maybe I’ll feel like it."
"Alright," Yang Fan agreed.
Fan Sisi told the staff to lock the door properly when they left, then she and Yang Fan hit the streets together.
The streets of Xin’an at past ten o’clock at night were at their most lively.
Everywhere one could see the lively scene of barbecue stands full of smoke and flavor, with people who had worked all day grilling skewers and drinking ice-cold beer, some whispering softly, others loudly espousing their views on life.
In the square, the "aunties" who had been trapped inside by the heat all day were energetically twisting their figures, dancing to the cheerful beat of the square dance.
"Actually, I met him through a blind date; he works at a library," Fan Sisi suddenly said softly.
"When he hadn’t shown his true colors, I liked the way he spoke because I love ancient culture and he understands a lot about it. The few times we met before, the conversations were very pleasant, and I found his eloquence quite attractive."
"We hadn’t seen each other many times, but today I casually asked him if he would mind marrying a girl who had lost her ’purity,’ and then he cited scriptures and scolded me a great deal. Later, when I told him that girl was actually me, he hesitated for a moment before saying that although it bothered him a great deal, he was willing to accept my change."
"In that moment, he belittled me to nothing, as if my past relationship was an unforgivable sin."
"I think if I were a younger girl, I might have been fooled by his words into feeling worthless, believing myself to be utterly sinful."
Yang Fan listened attentively and didn’t interrupt.
It was only because Fan Sisi was quite emotionally unstable at the moment; otherwise, he surely would have remarked, if those words hadn’t affected her deeply, then what was up with those two bottles of alcohol?
Almost a whole two thousand milliliters of liquor, how deep must the wounds in her heart be to drink that much?
Clearly, she had taken what Chen Junwei had said to heart.
"Do you think it’s funny, listening to me say all this?" Fan Sisi turned to look at Yang Fan.
"Funny? It’s just some of the winding paths people must walk," Yang Fan said offhandedly.
In truth, he wanted to say something humorous, but he didn’t dare to, fearing that it might upset her again.
To think that such a capable and formidable businesswoman on the outside could still be a little girl at heart.
