Chapter 164: Apology
Chapter 164: Chapter 164: Apology
"Fanzi, do you not welcome us?"
The woman beside the girl, dressed lavishly and carrying herself with grace, appeared to be around thirty. Her skin was exceptionally well-maintained and radiant as she looked up and asked lightly.
This Fourth Aunt of Yang Fan’s was the epitome of a noblewoman, no matter from which angle one looked.
"I do welcome you. I’ve never really met relatives from the clan so grown-up," Yang Fan said with a grin. "However, I think welcoming and being reasonable are two different things. Being aggressive right from the start and cursing with vile vocabulary—that doesn’t seem like visiting but more like picking a quarrel."
Fourth Aunt’s gaze turned indifferent as she looked at Yang Fan and spoke softly, "If you hadn’t done something wrong, why would Xiao Lin curse you for no reason? Nothing is absolutely black or white in this world. But I know my daughter well, and she wouldn’t curse someone without a reason."
"Then do you know what this is all about?" Yang Fan’s eyes grew colder; he had initially thought Fourth Aunt would be more reasonable.
Turns out, she wasn’t much different from her daughter.
Her words were laced with insults that were more grating to the ears than a direct attack on Yang’s ancestors.
"I certainly do know. Xiao Lin just came back crying and she has told me everything!" Fourth Aunt stated calmly, "It’s not easy for us to come here. Just apologize and let’s end this matter. Although your morals are questionable, it seems we won’t have much to do with each other in the future. How about that?"
Listening to her high-and-mighty speech, Yang’s face darkened instantly.
"My morals are questionable? Fine, your daughter has great morals then. Damn it, it’s none of my business if she doesn’t close the bathroom door! She’s a grown woman and she urinated on my shoe in the bathroom—I haven’t even settled that with her yet, and here you are insulting my morals. Ask her yourself, am I not telling the truth?" Yang Fan said angrily.
"We cannot afford to entertain relatives who are so high and mighty—looking down on others with their noses in the air. After this meal, just pack up and leave. Go back to wherever you came from, don’t come out and lose face, acting like you are better than others. With such behavior, you are worse than pigs, who at least know decency!"
Yang Fan ranted furiously, stormed to the stove, grabbed two steamed buns, and walked away.
"Little Mother, after we finish eating, please ask them to leave, lest they pollute our home’s air!"
In the kitchen, the four women watched Yang Fan leave in bold strides, their expressions frozen in shock.
"Mom, let’s go. I can’t even eat anymore, it’s disgusting!" Xiao Lin cried out.
Fourth Aunt’s face turned from red to purple, her arms trembling involuntarily, "Is what he said true?"
"What true or false! He’s just a disgusting rogue, a bastard, a living scum. Listen to how he curses. Mom, can you even sit still? How can such relatives be worthy of our family?" the girl cried vehemently.
Zhou Wenhu lowered her head and looked around, reached for a broom not far behind her, giving Xiao Lin an ominous look as she slowly picked it up.
Bang!
Yang Fan’s Fourth Aunt, with a stern face, suddenly slammed her hand heavily on the dining table, "I’m asking you, is what he said true?"
"Mom, do you think I’m lying to you? He barged in while I was using the bathroom, that’s a fact. Does what I say even matter? He’s the one at fault," Xiao Lin said, her eyes brimming with tears, sounding pitiful.
Fourth Aunt’s eyelids drooped slightly, "So what he said was true, right?"
"Although it happened that way... Mom, what exactly are you trying to say?" Xiao Lin glared, shouting indignantly.
Fourth Aunt took a deep breath and suddenly raised her arm, shouting loudly, "Go and apologize to Brother Fanzi, right now!"
Xiao Lin was stunned, disbelief written all over her face. "Mom, do you know what you’re saying? Apologize to him? He, he, he saw me using the bathroom, and I should apologize to him?"
"If you had closed the door, this wouldn’t have happened," declared Fourth Aunt sternly.
"Anyone can knock on the door, how could it possibly be my fault?" Xiao Lin retorted.
"Don’t you have hands and feet too? Don’t you know that you should close the door when you use the bathroom?" scolded Fourth Aunt, "Go, apologize!"
"I won’t!" Xiao Lin suddenly slammed down her chopsticks and turned to leave.
Watching her daughter leave in a huff, Fourth Aunt’s chest heaved with anger.
Zhou Wenhu silently set down the broom she had been holding and said with a faint smile, "Fourth Aunt, let’s just let it go, shall we? Let’s not bring it up anymore. I know Fanzi’s temper; he’s like a mule—easy to handle if you pet him the right way, but kicks if you rub him the wrong way. I’ll have his sister-in-law talk to him later, and it will be all right."
Fourth Aunt shook her head, "Big sister, it’s our fault; we can’t just let it go like this. I just blindly believed Xiao Lin’s side of the story and spoke to Fanzi in a rather harsh tone. My daughter and I both owe him an apology."
"It’s not that big of a deal, but if you insist, should I call Fanzi and you... apologize?" Zhou Wenhu said, waving her hand.
Fourth Aunt paused for a moment, then shook her head, "Apologizing face-to-face would be more sincere. We’ll wait for Fanzi to come back. More importantly, my spoiled daughter is the real culprit here. I need to talk to her; she’s getting out of hand."
"Oh, that works too!" Zhou Wenhu responded, her smile not quite reaching her eyes.
After Fourth Aunt elegantly left the kitchen, Ye Tong couldn’t help but ask with suppressed laughter, "Little Mother, were you really preparing to hit someone just now?"
Zhou Wenhu had just picked up the broom—an action missed by Fourth Aunt and Xiao Lin, but seen clear as day by Ye Tong.
"Hit someone? I was ready to kill her!" Zhou Wenhu said dismissively, "She clearly made a mistake and yet cursed Fanzi with such ugly words. If I didn’t beat her senseless, how could I face Fanzi as his mother? If it wasn’t for Fourth Aunt’s sense of reason and acknowledgment of the need to apologize, I would definitely have beaten them until they cried for their parents, and then thrown them out like dead dogs."
"Fanzi’s cousin really is out of line, clearly in the wrong and yet she had to point fingers at others," Ye Tong said, equally annoyed, "She’s outside, not at her own home. Who else is there to blame if she doesn’t close the door when using the bathroom?"
"Never mind, let’s see how they behave later. Otherwise, just beat them and kick them out!" Zhou Wenhu said, "Such relatives, I bet Fanzi doesn’t care much for them, and neither should we."
"Hmm."
Meanwhile, Yang Fan, fueled by anger, was already heading toward the first village.
Today, he would need to rely on his regular customers again.
In the villages around here, he was practically an expert on who grew Codonopsis.
Today, his main focus was on targeted acquisitions.
Though he couldn’t earn a profit of ten dollars per piece, making six or seven dollars per jin should still be achievable.
With today’s market changes, he definitely couldn’t keep buying at the old prices, otherwise, he would no longer have any regular customers. In business, while there is a mix of truth and deception, there needs to be a balance; too harsh a hand, and it’s a one-time deal.
