Chapter 104: Chapter 104 Confused Relationship

Wei Juan’s statement was something Yang Fan couldn’t help but agree with.

He also knew that Wei Juan definitely wouldn’t agree so easily. The two of them sleeping together was conditional, and essentially a separate matter. It was only natural for Wei Juan to feel worried and conflicted.

As for what she said about reaching too high, that was just pleasantries. Yang Fan wouldn’t take it seriously.

If she were to relocate to a big city for work and completely bury her terrible marriage past, she would still be the goddess in many people’s eyes, with countless admirers.

"So, will you come over tonight?" Yang Fan finally steered away from this rather unpleasant topic and asked instead.

Wei Juan pursed her lips with a smile, "Of course. I’ll sneak over later. Leave the door open for me."

This straightforward answer instantly filled Yang Fan’s heart with boundless joy.

As long as it didn’t interfere with their playtime, it was fine.

At that moment, Zhou Wenhui’s loud voice could be heard from the outer courtyard.

Dinner is ready.

"Let’s go eat."

Yang Fan smiled, pinching Wei Juan’s peachy, round buttocks with a squeeze.

"Mmm..." Wei Juan softly moaned, glancing at Yang Fan with a hint of affection in her eyes.

Zhou Wenhui’s dinner was, as always, a lavish affair, but Ye Tong for some reason hadn’t shown up. Zhou Wenhui went to check and came back with the excuse that Ye Tong wasn’t feeling well and didn’t want to eat.

This caused Yang Fan, who was famished, to suddenly lose much of his appetite in front of the delicious dinner.

He couldn’t help but wonder if his sister-in-law was actually jealous over Wei Juan?

But she had clearly said not to entertain false hopes. What was this all about? Yang Fan was puzzled.

The saying "A woman’s heart is a deep ocean of secrets" used to seem like an exaggeration to Yang Fan.

Now, with his sister-in-law, he truly felt its meaning.

No matter how carefully he considered, he couldn’t decipher his sister-in-law’s pulse; it was completely inscrutable.

At this depth, it was almost like a needle lost at sea.

Dinner was a mess in his head, and after some thought, Yang Fan decided to go upstairs and check on his sister-in-law.

He gently knocked on the door, and a while later, rustling footsteps could be heard from inside the room.

Since he had previously walked in on his sister-in-law applying body lotion, Yang Fan was extra cautious this time. Even though he saw the door was open, he did not go straight in but knocked first out of politeness.

Ye Tong opened the door and, seeing Yang Fan standing at the doorway, asked indifferently, "What do you want?"

"Didn’t eat dinner, not hungry?" Yang Fan asked.

"Not hungry, I just had a big helping of dog food, feeling quite full!" Ye Tong retorted, clearly upset.

Her eyes were slightly red as if she had just been crying.

Yang Fan felt a twinge of heartache mixed with surprise, "So, are you really jealous of Wei Juan?"

"I might as well be drinking soy sauce too, why would I be jealous?" Ye Tong rolled her eyes, disdainfully saying, "If there’s nothing else, hurry back and go to sleep cuddling with Shen Lin’s little wife, don’t come here spouting nonsense and making up stories."

That hostility seemed a bit intense.

Ignoring Ye Tong’s words, Yang Fan walked straight into the room and sat down on the wicker chair, checking the temperature of the teapot and pouring himself a cup of tea.

He was uneasy inside but had to force a semblance of calm, finding little things to distract himself.

"What else do you want?" Ye Tong asked, frowning and clearly displeased.

Without regard for her demeanor, Yang Fan deliberately made a loud noise, slurping his tea noisily before asking, "Sister-in-law, what do you think about me and Wei Juan being together?"

"I don’t know, finding a woman is your own business, whatever type you like, tall, short, fat, thin, overtly or secretly flirtatious, just follow your own desires," Ye Tong glared at Yang Fan with a touch of deep resentment and said indignantly.

Yang Fan really wanted to ask his sister-in-law about her true feelings, but the words just wouldn’t come out of his throat.

He was worried that this might just be another one of his unrequited ideas, only to be met with another ’don’t harbour any illusions’ from his sister-in-law.

The feeling was terribly awful.

It was just like the love of his naïve days, knowing there was no hope, yet always reignited by the other person’s sudden abnormal behavior, as if it had anything to do with him.

Back in high school, Yang Fan had this kind of experience before.

It was an incomplete first love, and he never figured out what the girl truly felt about him even by graduation.

And this time, with his sister-in-law, it was almost the same situation.

The tumultuous emotions had come full circle, and here was reincarnation.

Silently setting down the teacup, Yang Fan forced a smile and said, "Seems so, I guess as long as you like someone and they like you back, it’s like a toad coveting a swan’s meat—as long as they hit it off, that’s all that matters, right?"

Ye Tong, silent and preoccupied, picked at her nails, her gaze somewhat hollow.

He had no idea what she was zoning out about this time.

"Sister-in-law, are you really not hungry?" Yang Fan asked again, feigning ease.

"Not hungry, just go ahead and leave," Ye Tong didn’t even lift her head, just gestured outward with her palm.

Yang Fan suppressed those unnecessary thoughts in his mind and left Ye Tong’s room.

Perhaps that was that.

On his way downstairs, he bumped into Zhou Wenhui who was carrying a pot of flowers up.

"Did you go see your sister-in-law?" Zhou Wenhui asked.

Yang Fan nodded.

"Got rebuffed again?" Zhou Wenhui asked with a silent chuckle.

Yang Fan gave a bitter smile, "Not exactly a rebuff – I was just asking why she wasn’t eating."

"If she’s not eating, it means she doesn’t want to eat. What other reason could there be?" Zhou Wenhui pondered for a moment, then asked mysteriously, "Do you want Mom to give you a hand?"

"Don’t throw in the towel just yet!" Yang Fan said, exasperated.

Little Mother had been acting strange lately, just like his sister-in-law, as if she was also trying to take advantage of him.

Zhou Wenhui gave him a haughty look and said coyly, "Let me tell you, little brat, if I manage to arrange this for you, you’ll probably want to follow me around kissing my buttocks every day, calling me ’Mom’."

"How are you going to help?" Yang Fan ignored her nonsense and asked straight away.

Zhou Wenhui handed the flower pot to Yang Fan, clapped her hands, and said, "Just wait for me in the attic. If it works out, I’ll explain what you need to do."

With a slight frown, Yang Fan wondered if Little Mother was scheming to force him to make an unwelcome advance?

With some doubts in his heart, Yang Fan went up to the attic and placed the flower on the rack.

Though life was merely okay, Little Mother’s inner world was rich, and her flowers and plants were well nurtured.

Her skill in tending flowers and cooking were almost on par with each other; a person capable of mastering these two arts surely wouldn’t lead a monotonous life. Sometimes Yang Fan really envied Little Mother’s state of living.

Not competing for the thickness of the wallet, only for the peaceful present.

He had ideas himself, but truly lacked the energy to learn, having to spin himself like a top just for some broken silver.

He had no choice but to compete for the thickness of his wallet.
