GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?
Chapter 2271 2271: Jack The Ripoff.

Now that they know so much about the value of life and the power of the divine abilities of the pathways of nobles and merchants, they want Sir Kris to become their slave when they gain more slots, not Jack the fake noble.

If they select Jack to be their slave, they will feel as if they have been cheated. In order not to be ripped off, they have to aim higher.

Their greediness made them work harder, train harder, and read more books instead of going to support one gang or another to take the territory that they fought for.

They believe that they deserve the two free districts that people are fighting over because they were the ones who killed the previous controller of the two territories. And they would like to take the territory, but they also know that they don't have the tools to do it yet.

So they kept to themselves and focused on increasing their power. Unfortunately for them, the world wasn't willing to leave them alone.

Jack began to cause trouble again. This time, he was asking their slaves what they planned to do about the Edwin family sending an illusionist to infiltrate their base.

Jack asked Golden Hammer this. Golden Hammer didn't reply. Instead he stared down at Jack and asked, "How did you know that an illusionist infiltrated our base?"

They already know how Jack found out, but they still made Golden Hammer ask the question in order to put on a show for those who will read his memory later.

Jack became nervous after he was questioned. He was nervous because Jack was very strong and because there was a suspicion that the Golden Hammer gang had killed Celine.

His fear was that since Celine could be killed, he too could be killed. Especially now that Golden Hammer seems to be hinting that he was a traitor to the gang.

Jack swallowed forcefully and told the truth, "Sir Kris Edwin approached me and asked me to broker a truce between his family and this gang."

Golden Hammer narrowed his eyes at Jack and said, "I hope you got paid a lot for this, as it would be an insult to both us and you if you're betraying us for something cheap."

Jack summoned his courage and said, "I am not betraying anyone. My duty is to assist this gang, and I am doing that to the best of my ability. Now tell me what you think about the truce."

Golden Hammer glared at Jack for a long time before replying. He said, "We are willing to come to a truce. But we must be compensated for the damages that we've incurred due to the harassment of the bounty hunter and the illusionist."

Jack nodded and said, "I'll leave now to inform Sir Krissy of your willingness to come to a truce."

Then he left in a hurry. Golden Hammer watched him go with his eyes narrowed.

Legion felt like killing him. They felt that he was a rat. If not for the trouble that his death will cause and the little usefulness he has for serving as a point of contact to Sir Kriss, then they would have killed him.

Eventually, they turned their attention away from him and gave Golden Hammer one last instruction about the truce. Golden Hammer is to agree to the truce, but he must fight for something significant and not undervalue himself.

It is true that the Edwin family is strong enough to match the Golden Hammer gang, and they even have more powerful helpers in the form of other noble families, but Golden Hammer was ordered not to act weak in the negotiations for the truce.

They gave Golden Hammer this order so that he can put up a front of being fearless in the negotiation. They understand that only by showing that they will be difficult to deal with will they be able to deter people like Sir Kriss.

They were right to think so. Sir Kriss wasn't willing to antagonize them anymore, and their response to his offer of truce only confirmed that he must be prepared to lose a lot if he is to continue attacking the Golden Hammer gang.

Things continued to be peaceful for Legion after this encounter. Apart from the negotiation between the Edwin family and the Golden Hammer gang, nothing new happened that deserved their attention.

This continued for a month and stopped when their plan for the machinist had fully settled. They gave the order, and the bomb that they had been planting in the territory of the Machinist for over a month exploded.

Actually, according to their initial plan, the bomb shouldn't have taken so long before it was ready. But the machinist kept employing more manpower to increase the defense of his base. Legion decided to be patient and wait until they planted enough bombs to take care of everything at once.

What they planted wasn't a literal bomb, though. The machinist would have preferred that because a bomb wouldn't have killed so many people.

They were happy with what they did and even proud of themselves for doing it. But they were also humble enough to keep their lips sealed shut about their achievement.

But as usual, the machinist had to open his big mouth to cry to the world. He told everyone that every member of his base was killed by some disease.

Actually, he didn't have a choice this time around. He had felt that he had to tell the world what really happened. or he would die.

He woke up early in the dark morning and began inspecting his base. His base had been on high alert recently, and there should have been a lot of guards patrolling, but the base was deadly silent.

He didn't hear any sound of movement and activity. This made him suspect that something was wrong and maybe the base was under attack. So he sent his puppets to investigate while he hid himself in the safe he built to protect himself.
