Damn it. The Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace set a trap here.

Good thing I've got a backup plan, Wu Jiaxun thought, eyes narrowing as Zhong Yushan cut off two of his men.

His face quickly turned unreadable as he swept his gaze across the battlefield, taking everything in.

"Hmph! We've got no idea what you're going on about!" snapped one of the intercepted men, staying calm on the outside.

"Yeah! If we were really from the Purple Crest Immortal Sect, wouldn't people recognize us? We're not here because of some half-demon kid named Lu Yi—we've got our own scores to settle," the other added, sounding genuinely pissed.

"And now you're dragging innocent people into this just to smear the Purple Crest Immortal Sect? Your Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace really doesn't know shame," he said, shooting a sharp glare at Zhong Yushan.

"Hahaha! Still trying to talk your way out of this? With excuses that weak?" Zhong Yushan sneered, his eyes locked on the two Nirvana Peering realm cultivators. "Do you really think everyone's that easy to fool?"

"You just happen to show up in Burning Sun City, right when someone tries to kill Lu Yi? Two Nirvana Peering realm experts coming all this way to settle a grudge against a Transcendence realm junior? Come on. No one's buying that."

He took a step forward, sweeping a hand toward the watching crowd.

"Your real reasons don't even matter anymore. Everyone can see what's going on. The Purple Crest Immortal Sect can't wash its hands of this. After Lu Tingyun's little arrangement with demons and that half-demon child, Lu Yi, you really thought you could keep the secret buried?"

He didn't wait for a response.

"Your sect's already branded itself. The Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace will hunt down every last traitor. If you keep pushing, don't expect mercy. But if you stop now and come clean—maybe, just maybe—you'll have a way out."

He looked at them like the outcome was already sealed.

"The Purple Crest Immortal Sect's days are numbered. What happens next is up to you."

"Heh… this is ridiculous. Like I said, we're not part of the Purple Crest Immortal Sect. We're just here for payback, that's all," one of the cultivators replied, lifting his hands slightly. "We've got no interest in playing along with your little drama. Let us settle our own matters, and we'll be gone."

"Sigh... You really won't come clean until you've run out of options," Zhong Yushan said, shaking his head. His gaze turned colder.

But the two cultivators didn't flinch. They stood their ground, unfazed by the threat in his words.

"Oh, so now whatever you say is the truth? You've got no real evidence, but you're still dead set on blaming us?" one of them shot back, his face reddening. "Is this how the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace works? Thought you were supposed to be one of the top sects on Prosperous Stone Immortal Star."

"Evidence?" Zhong Yushan scoffed. "We've got plenty. Blood and tissue samples from Lu Yi—confirmed and verified. He's a half-demon. And as for Lu Tingyun? We've already got solid proof of her betrayal."

He let that sink in for a moment, then gave the two men a sharp look.

"You can keep pretending you're not tied to the Purple Crest Immortal Sect, but do you really think your identities are that airtight? Don't kid yourselves."

...

At the same time, their argument rang out across Burning Sun City.

The crowd wasn't clueless—they naturally leaned toward believing Zhong Yushan.

"Those two are definitely from the Purple Crest Immortal Sect," someone muttered, clearly siding with him.

"Yeah, they're here to kill Lu Yi and cover everything up. Get rid of the witness, erase the evidence."

"If stuff like this is really happening inside the Purple Crest Immortal Sect, then what hope is there for justice?"

"At least the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace is doing something about it. Honestly, I'm thinking of moving to a city under their rule."

All around, cultivators whispered to one another, their conversations getting more heated by the minute. The way they looked at the two men from the Purple Crest Immortal Sect was filled with disgust.

...

While everything played out below, Jiang Chen watched from above, a thoughtful look flashing in his eyes. The Purple Crest Immortal Sect's already lost this round. For Wu Jiaxun's team to turn things around, they'd have to take down Zhong Yushan and his people—and silence everyone who knows too much. Not gonna be easy.

He shifted his gaze toward Lu Yi and quietly activated his Villain Eye.

All Things Infinite Fusion System… and it's only Level 1? That means it can evolve—with no upper cap. Jiang Chen narrowed his eyes slightly, a faint glint of cold light flickering in them. Ridiculous. But why hasn't he used any of its abilities yet?

Then, right in front of him, Lu Yi's system jumped to Level 2.

He just upgraded it! I already cut off his dramatic entrance, but even then, he found a way to level the system up? Jiang Chen's expression shifted. This thing is even more dangerous than I thought.

...

Meanwhile, back in the courtyard, a familiar alert rang out in Lu Yi's mind.

Ding!

[You've used 1 low-grade spirit jade. The system has been upgraded to Level 2. Daily fusion limit increased to 2.]

Heh, upgrading this thing's way too easy. A satisfied grin spread across Lu Yi's face. He swept his divine sense through his storage artifact—999 low-grade spirit jades still sat there, untouched.

He'd originally packed them into a storage ring as a gift for Xin Tong, mostly filled with cultivation supplies. The spirit jades were just a bonus—only a thousand in total.

But even that small number was no joke. A thousand spirit jades were worth a hundred thousand top-grade spirit stones—or a ridiculous ten million high-grade ones.

Back when Mo Hao and Jiang Chen made their little bet, they only wagered ten million high-grade spirit stones.

Lu Yi's mind was made up. Once he got out of this mess, he'd start trading some of the stuff in his stash for even more spirit jades—and keep upgrading the system nonstop.

Without wasting another second, he looked at the 999 jades left and gave the next command.

Ding!

[You've used 10 low-grade spirit jades. The system has been upgraded to Level 3. Daily fusion limit increased to 3.]
