Yang Yi unexpectedly obtained the coordinates of an island located deep within the Bountiful Sea Region.
But after only a moment of thought, he dismissed the idea of turning back to explore it.
The reason was simple: he wasnât adequately prepared yet. It would be better to first explore the island he had marked earlier, and return to the interior of the Bountiful Sea once everything was in place.
After all, the coordinates were already recorded.
Yang Yi checked the chat channel and noticed that fewer than 5,000 players remained in the Extreme Winter Sea Region, and that number was still dropping. It looked like the count would soon reach zero.
When that happened, it was likely the sea would undergo a new change.
He piloted the Nightmare Star away from the area, sailing out of the sugar-water-like sea much faster than he had entered.
His target was the island whose coordinates he had previously recorded.
...
It was late at night.
Inside the captainâs cabin, Yang Yi was organising the information heâd gathered.
He planned to release the photos taken during the day, along with details about the Bountiful Sea Region, and sell them to a major news outlet.
The intel was incredibly valuable. To put it bluntly, a large number of players would benefit from this information. But Yang Yi didn't particularly care.
Even if he didnât sell it, someone else would eventually discover and publicise the same findings.
If he released it early, he could profit from the intel. If it was released late, more players would die. And the deaths of players didnât benefit Yang Yi directly, since they wouldnât send their gear or supplies to him before dying.
In fact, a larger player population worked in Yang Yiâs favour. It meant more people to trade and communicate with, and more channels for acquiring information.
No matter how strong-willed he was, even someone like Yang Yi couldnât reach the end of this journey alone.
Still, before selling the intel, Yang Yi intended to maximise his profits.
Once the information was public, salt prices would undoubtedly soar, and food could also become more expensive. So, he needed to stock up on those goods while prices were still low.
That was the advantage of being a trailblazer.
As for bulk-buying salt to resell at a markup later? Yang Yi didnât plan on doing that just yet.
His intention was to stockpile sea salt in his shipâs cargo hold. After leaving the Bountiful Sea Region, then heâd consider selling.
The shipâs storage space was limited.
If he sold his hoarded salt, even if it earned him some profit, he would regret it later. When supplies ran low, heâd be forced to buy it back, probably at a loss⌠or worse, not find any at all.
Just as Yang Yi opened the chat to post a message about purchasing sea salt, he noticed the number of remaining players in the Extreme Winter Sea Region had dropped to twenty.
The next second, it hit zero and a system announcement popped up.
ăAll players have now exited the Extreme Winter Sea Region.ă
ăBountiful Sea Region is beginning to expand. Barrier restrictions lifted.ăăPersonal info panel updated. Title system unlocked. Players may now use titles in communication. See details within your interface.ăThe sudden system announcement caught Yang Yi off guard. He immediately rushed out of the captainâs cabin, switched to three-eyed vision, and looked towards the Bountiful Sea.
In less than two minutes, a gentle warm wind blew his way, carrying a faint, sweet aroma. It wasnât as strong or sticky as the scent within the Bountiful Seaâs core, but it was unmistakably similar.
He wrinkled his nose and checked the sea chart, discovering that the Bountiful Sea Region was slowly expanding at a rate of about 15 nautical miles. But unlike the Extreme Winter Sea, the Bountiful Sea had a much greater impact on nearby waters.
Previously, the milky-white seawater hadnât spread far, most likely because the barrier was blocking it. That explained the strange sensation Yang Yi had felt upon entering the Bountiful Sea.
But since the barrier was gone, the white seawater would spread much faster than the expansion rate of the region itself and the fragrant air had already arrived.
âThis isâŚâ
Yang Yiâs expression suddenly shifted to one of alarm. The sea surface was dotted with countless tiny âoil spotsâ, like greasy beads floating on the surface of a broth.
The âoil spotsâ were so delicious that sea creatures quickly surfaced to gobble them up, making the ocean surface increasingly lively, churning with fish everywhere, like a great harvest!
But to Yang Yi, the scene wasnât heartening, it was terrifying. A chill ran down his spine.
The white seawater hadnât spread further, instead, the sweet, cloying air had dissolved into the sea, forming those floating beads of tasty âoilâ.
It meant the air inside the Bountiful Sea Region was delicious too!
âEven breathing makes you addicted to flavourâŚ?â
The more Yang Yi thought about it, the more horrified he became. His bandit face scarf couldnât fully block the scent â it only disrupted it with a bloody odour.
So⌠heâd likely already inhaled this addictive substance!
âDamn it!â
Yang Yi immediately checked his personal status panel and found it had changed. A new title section had appeared, allowing him to equip specific titles.
In addition, two new attributes, height and weight, were now listed, accurate to one decimal place.
But none of that mattered to him.
What caught his attention was a new status affix in his condition bar:
ăCraving for Deliciousness: You are attracted to flavour.ă: You must consume something delicious at regular intervals to relieve your cravings, or you will become restless and distracted. If this desire remains unsatisfied for too long, symptoms will worsen. Higher mental attributes offer better resistance, but you probably shouldn't place too much trust in yourself.
Yang Yiâs pupils trembled. He realised heâd been infected.
Heâd let his guard down!
He couldnât be sure whether it happened inside the Bountiful Sea, or just recently. But one thing was clear, the air was contaminated. It couldnât be inhaled. Unless it could be completely filtered, exposure was dangerous!
âSuna! Wear the silver beak mask, donât take it off! The air in the Bountiful Sea Region is toxic!â
He sent a private message and dashed toward the shipâs interior.
Bursting into the cabin, he saw Suna already wearing her silver beak mask. She was busy salting the pufferfish that had survived earlier, preserving it with a generous layer of sea salt.
âWhatâs wrong?â Suna paused and looked up at him.
âYou saw the system announcement, right?â
âYeah, the Bountiful Sea Region is expanding but slowly.â
âThatâs not the real issue. The air has reached us ahead of the sea, and itâs toxic!â
Yang Yi explained everything in detail.
âEven the air causes addiction?â Suna was surprised as well.
Fortunately, when she checked her status panel, she hadnât developed the Craving for Deliciousness condition.
Still, she immediately thought of the water and spirits stored in the ship and rushed to inspect them.
The strong liquor was fine, it had been sealed tightly to prevent evaporation.
But the drinking water stored in wooden barrels hadnât been covered. The water inside had turned faintly milky, like someone had dropped milk candy into it â turning it into delicious water.
Yang Yiâs expression turned grim. The Bountiful Sea Region was even more dangerous than he had imagined!
âFood hasnât been affected yet, but I recommend sealing it all in crystal or metal containers like canned rations,â Suna said after checking the dried monkey meat, dried fish, and black bread in the storage.
Yang Yi, meanwhile, urgently began purchasing new full-seal gas masks that could completely block scents, as well as large quantities of sea salt.
