Chapter 97: We have a winner
Dina’s eyes widened.
This time, Reno was the one pressing forward.
He moved without hesitation, his blade cutting through the air with relentless speed.
He swung at the real Dina.
Dina’s eyes flickered with surprise. She had been a step ahead the entire fight.
Now, for the first time, she was caught in his rhythm.
For the first time in the fight, she barely avoided it.
Reno’s blade grazed past her, close, too close.
She twisted at the last second, feeling the rush of air as the steel narrowly missed her side.
Her movements, once effortless and controlled, were now hurried, reactive.
Reno was forcing her on the defensive now.
He pressed forward, his strikes relentless, leaving her no time to reset.
Every dodge, every step she took back, he was right there with her, cutting off her escape.
The fight had shifted. The hunter was now the hunted.
Dina gritted her teeth, frustration creeping into her sharp eyes. She flicked her hand, creating another clone and sending it straight at him.
Reno didn’t slow. He didn’t hesitate.
His blade cut through the illusion instantly, slicing it apart before it could even reach him.
The moment it vanished, he was already moving again, closing the gap between them with ruthless speed.
Dina barely had time to react before his sword flashed toward her neck, the cold steel just inches away.
Too close. Dina had no time to dodge. No room to twist away, no space to counter.
So she did the only thing she could.
She let herself fall backward, surrendering to gravity, her body arching just in time to escape the razor-thin edge of Reno’s blade.
The cold steel whistled past, so close she could feel the air shift against her throat.
A fraction of a second slower, and it would have been over.
But she wasn’t just retreating, she was attacking.
As she fell, she snapped her leg up, driving her foot forward with all the force she could muster.
Her muscles burned from the sudden movement, but she didn’t care.
Her foot slammed into Reno’s wrist with a sharp, jarring impact.
Pain shot through his arm as his grip faltered, his fingers instinctively loosening from the shock.
His sword was torn from his grasp, spinning through the air before clattering against the ground a few feet away.
Dina hit the ground hard but rolled with the impact, her momentum carrying her smoothly back to her feet.
She barely had time to steady herself before Reno moved, fast.
He lunged toward his fallen sword, his body a blur of motion as he reached for the hilt.
But she didn’t let him.
The instant she saw him move, she was already on him. With a burst of speed, she closed the distance,
A clone flickered into existence right in front of Reno, blocking his path.
For just a fraction of a second, he hesitated.
His mind knew it was fake, another illusion meant to slow him down, but his body reacted instinctively, tensing for an attack that would never come.
And that was all she needed.
Before he could recover, Dina struck from behind.
She lunged, her arms locking around his waist in a tight grip.
Her momentum slammed into him like a wave, her body twisting as she used his own speed against him.
She twisted sharply, her movements fluid and precise, using Reno’s own momentum against him.
Before he could react, his balance was ripped away.
The world tilted violently as Dina drove him downward with unyielding force.
The impact was brutal.
Reno’s back hit the ground with a dull, resounding thud, the air forced from his lungs in a sharp gasp.
Pain flared through his body, radiating from the point of impact, but there was no time to dwell on it.
Dina wasn’t letting up.
The air left Reno’s lungs in a rush, his body jolting from the impact.
Before he could even think about recovering, Dina was on him.
She moved fast, ruthless in her precision. One knee drove into his chest, pinning him down with unforgiving weight, her forearm pressing firmly against his throat.
Not enough to choke him, but enough to remind him that she could.
Reno’s muscles tensed, instinct screaming at him to fight back, to throw her off.
But Dina had the advantage now. She had stripped him of his weapon, taken control of the fight, and left him with no easy way out.
The crowd roared around them, but all Reno could hear was the sound of his own breathing, fast and shallow beneath her unyielding hold.
For a moment, the entire arena fell silent.
The cheers, the shouts, the pounding of feet against the stands, all of it faded into a hush as everyone waited for what would happen next.
Reno lay still beneath Dina’s hold, his chest rising and falling with each measured breath.
His muscles remained tense, his mind racing through possible escapes. But deep down, he already knew.
There was no way out of this.
Finally, he let out a slow sigh, the fight leaving his body like a fading ember.
"I yield," he said, his voice calm, steady.
"THE WINNER IS DINA!" the announcer shouted, his voice booming across the arena.
The moment the words left his mouth, the crowd exploded into deafening cheers and applause.
Excitement rippled through the stands like a shockwave, voices rising in a chaotic mix of celebration and admiration. Some spectators chanted Dina’s name, their voices merging into a rhythmic roar, while others simply clapped and hollered, swept up in the thrill of the match.
Dina stayed where she was for a moment, her breath still heavy from the fight.
Then, slowly, she eased off Reno.
Dina grinned down at Reno, hands on her hips, her chest still rising and falling from the fight.
"Told you I had you figured out," she said, her voice laced with triumph.
The crowd was still cheering, the energy in the arena electric.
Reno lay still for a moment, his breathing steady despite the weight on his chest.
His gaze flickered to the sky above, unreadable, as if considering his next move.
Finally, he gave the smallest nod.
Dina turned away from Reno, her victory secured, and glanced toward the stands. Her sharp eyes landed on Gon.
She smirked. Then, with an almost playful air, she gave him a wink.
Gon frowned.
He clenched his fists, forcing himself to stay still. He needed to focus, on his match, on his own fight, not on her.
