Chapter 72: The pretty nurse

Chapter 72: The pretty nurse

At first, their focus had been locked onto the intense battle unfolding between Milo and Trois, but then someone gasped.

Another pointed.

The murmuring grew louder, spreading like wildfire.

"The Duke’s son, he’s collapsing!"

All at once, the energy in the stadium shifted.

The excitement that had electrified the crowd only moments ago twisted into unease.

People rose from their seats, craning their necks for a better view.

Whispers turned into frantic chatter, a mixture of alarm and disbelief.

"Is he injured?"

"What’s happening to him?"

"He was fine just a second ago!"

Somewhere near the front rows, a noblewoman clutched her hands to her chest, her face pale with concern.

Others exchanged worried glances, their eyes flickering between the unconscious boy and the fight still raging on.

The announcer hesitated, momentarily thrown off by the unexpected turn of events.

The moment the nearest guards saw Gon collapse, they sprang into action.

Their armor clanked as they rushed across the arena floor, pushing past startled spectators and leaping over barriers in their haste.

Their urgent movements only fueled the growing unease in the crowd, the murmurs turning into worried exclamations.

Up in the grand viewing balcony, the Duke and Duchess had been watching the matches with composed interest, until now.

The moment the Duchess caught sight of Gon sprawled on the arena floor, her breath hitched in her throat.

For a brief second, she was frozen, her mind refusing to accept what she was seeing.

Then, as the full weight of the moment crashed down on her, a piercing scream tore from her lips.

"Gon!"

Her voice, filled with raw panic, cut through the stadium like a blade.

Gone was her usual regal composure; all that remained was a mother watching her son collapse before her very eyes.

The worry in her face was stark, her eyes wide with terror as she gripped the balcony railing as if she might throw herself over it.

"Carry him! Get him out of there, now!" she yelled, her voice trembling with desperation.

Gon, barely clinging to consciousness, caught fleeting glimpses of it all through his fading vision.

The world around him was slipping further and further away, but the last images burned into his mind were vivid.

The Duchess, standing tall in her lavish gown, her usual elegance shattered by panic.

Her golden jewelry glinted under the arena lights as she leaned forward, her hands gripping the railing so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

The sheer alarm on her face was unlike anything he had ever seen.

Then, his gaze flickered to the Duke.

Unlike the Duchess, the Duke remained seated, his expression unreadable at first.

But Gon could see it, the sharp glint in his eyes, the tension in his jaw.

His father was concerned, there was no doubt about that.

Yet beneath the worry, there was something else.

Disapproval.

It wasn’t outright, nor was it harsh, but it was there, lingering in the way his brows furrowed ever so slightly.

Gon wanted to say something, to move, to do anything, but his body refused to obey.

The sounds around him dulled, the shouting voices fading into the background.

The edges of his vision darkened, swallowing up the colors, the movement, the faces.

And then... nothing.

The last thing he felt was the cold floor beneath him before the darkness claimed him completely.

*****

When Gon opened his eyes, the world around him was a blur of soft light and muted colors.

His body felt heavy, as if he had been sinking in deep water and had only just surfaced.

A dull, persistent throbbing pulsed in the left side of his head, making him wince slightly as he tried to gather his bearings.

The ceiling above him was unfamiliar—low and ornately carved, with elegant patterns woven into its design.

A faint scent of medicinal herbs lingered in the air, mingling with the crisp freshness of clean linen.

He shifted slightly, feeling the hardness of the mattress beneath him and the smooth fabric of a blanket draped over him.

Slowly, the fog in his mind began to lift.

As Gon’s senses slowly sharpened, he realized something—this wasn’t his room.

A low groan escaped his lips as he shifted, the dull throbbing in his head pulsing with every movement.

Ignoring the discomfort, he braced himself and tried to sit up, pushing against the soft mattress.

Immediately, a wave of dizziness rushed through him, forcing him to pause.

His arms trembled slightly under his own weight, and his vision blurred at the edges before gradually steadying.

"You shouldn’t do that, you’re still very much in pain."

A female voice cut through the quiet room, making Gon tense slightly.

Gon followed the voice, his gaze settling on the figure standing before him.

She was a woman of striking beauty, her presence commanding yet gentle, as if she belonged to a world untouched by chaos.

Long, dark hair cascaded over her shoulders, framing a face that was both serene and enigmatic.

Her skin was smooth, glowing softly in the dim light of the room, and her eyes, deep and knowing, held a quiet strength that made it impossible to look away.

Gon swallowed, still feeling the lingering effects of exhaustion, but he forced himself to stay alert.

His body may have been weakened, but his instincts were not.

She bore the subtle signs of someone who was no stranger to work.

The skin, though well-maintained, was not untouched by effort.

There was no excess jewelry adorning her fingers, no extravagant display of wealth, only a quiet simplicity that somehow made her all the more striking.

Her face, framed by the jet-black hair pulled neatly into a bun, was both pretty and stern at the same time.

Her body was not too extraordinary however, she had a figure that wasn’t too slim or too thick.

And her boobs stood upright even though they weren’t massive.

But her face, her face was something else entirely.

It wasn’t just pretty; it was striking, captivating in a way that was impossible to ignore.
