Gonna Be a Demon King! -
Chapter 87: Holy Light Rays
Chapter 87: Holy Light Rays
’Gravity Crush.’
In the next moment, a translucent sphere formed mid-air, centred on the half-angel. Force closed in on the man from every direction—above, below, front, back, all angles at once.
His body froze under the pressure, muscles straining, knees buckling slightly under the invisible weight. His wings quivered but couldn’t spread, crushed under the uniform intensity pressing down on every bone.
But he didn’t go down.
"RAAARGGHH!!!"
With a loud shout, the half-angel clenched his fists and threw his head back, unleashing a burst of his murky-gold aura in all directions. His aura pushed back against the crushing gravitational field around him, the intense energy causing it to flicker under strain.
Xaren’s brow furrowed, his dark-red eyes narrowing as he slowly curled his fingers into a fist, trying to condense the pressure further. The gravitational field quivered violently, the space within it warping subtly as if struggling to collapse inward.
But despite the sweat dripping down his face and the veins bulging across his arms, the half-angel didn’t back down. He gritted his teeth as his body trembled against the crushing force, his aura pushing back with growing ferocity.
’This...he’d break out soon...’
The moment that thought crossed Xaren’s mind, he quickly used his sword to draw a circle on the ground in front of him, then raised the weapon and stabbed it into the centre with force.
Magic power ran down the blade and into the ground, following the line he traced and conjuring a spell circle.
’Flame Pillar.’
A similar spell circle appeared beneath the half-angel’s feet, but faster than he could do anything, a pillar of black fire erupted, engulfing him in an inferno contained within the field of Gravity Crush.
The flames surged high, curling around his large body, their heat distorting the air and casting shadows that danced violently along the scorched ruins.
His armour blackened and cracked, fragments glowing red-hot before crumbling off. Parts of his clothes underneath caught fire, burning away in seconds, and strands of his hair shrivelled and turned to ashes just as quickly.
But the blaze didn’t last long enough to deal fatal damage, as a surge of light pushed back against it. Strong light erupted from the half-angel’s burned hand, surging across his body and pushing back the flames while healing his wounds.
With that same hand, he conjured a magic circle which summoned a sphere of condensed light, then he hurled it at Xaren with all his might.
Xaren quickly leapt to the side to avoid the blinding projectile, but as he moved, Gravity Crush was disabled and the half-angel regained full mobility.
Just before the blinding projectile he hurled at Xaren hit the ground, it exploded, unleashing an omnidirectional wave of countless smaller projectiles that shot out more than five times faster than the original.
Several slammed into Xaren’s before he could react, piercing his aura skin and striking across his side and back.
He hastily formed a gravity shield to block the rest, but a handful had already landed, their impact searing his clothes and flesh in bursts of light.
’Fuck, this shit hurts!’
Of course, it did. Light magic by default, was on the positive end of the polarity spectrum, as such, it was more effective on demons who were a race on the negative end.
As Xaren used his magic power to fight back against the burning light, the half-angel grabbed his sword and closed the distance, unleashing a downward slash from overhead.
Xaren jumped back and unfurled his wings, quickly taking to the skies to avoid the slash that split the ground and gouged out everything within a hundred metres from the point of impact.
The half-angel’s head snapped upwards immediately, and he kicked off the ground, soaring into the air to collide with Xaren who met his charge with an aura-infused overhead slash.
’Gravitational Amplification: X5!’
’Gigant Arc!’
**BOOOMMM!!!
The collision between their swords sounded more like an explosion than two blades clashing as their auras exploded upon impact.
Losing out in this clash and being sent crashing to the ground was the half-angel, however, he flipped around mid-air and landed on his feet, roaring loudly as four magic circles appeared around him.
"Holy Light Rays!!"
Erupting from each magic circle was a beam of light that shot up at Xaren, forcing the grey demon to flap his wings and fly away to dodge.
But despite his evasive manoeuvres, the light beams followed him through the air, twisting and turning even faster than he did.
Clicking his tongue at this, Xaren curved in the air and shot down towards the ground, making another sharp curve mere centimetres more before he collided with the earth.
He flapped his wings for a boost, shooting forward in a straight line towards the half-angel, while the light beams hit the ground and exploded behind him, each blast releasing shockwaves strong enough to crumble several buildings simultaneously.
Xaren engulfed his blade with dark flames and swung it with the force of 5x gravity backing it, meeting the half-angel’s overhead slash in a collision that cratered the ground beneath his feet.
But despite the half-angel’s enhanced strength from his giant bloodline, he once again lost out in the clash, Xaren’s gravity-enhanced strike knocking him back with immense force.
Yet, just before he could topple over, he slammed his wings open and beat them hard against the air, the sudden drag and lift halting his fall and converting the momentum into a controlled forward thrust as he launched himself straight back at Xaren.
Xaren ducked just in time to avoid the great sword that carved through the air his upper body once occupied. A two-ringed magic circle formed on his open palm, glowing briefly before black fire burst from his palm like a geyser.
The half-angel threw up a wall of light magic to block it, only for his magic shield to distort, bending sideways as though refracted through a curved mirror. The flames curled unnaturally, licking the shield’s edge and burning into his shoulder.
Xaren followed up with a thrust of his sword, but the half-angel took to the skies before the Neuro-Machina could pierce his burnt shoulder.
Glaring at Xaren down on the ground, the half-angel barked, the light of fury filling his eyes.
"What did you do to my holy light?!"
"...are you really expecting me to give you an actual answer?" Xaren quipped back, one brow arching as he conjured a magic circle with his hand behind his back.
The half-angel opened his mouth to retort, but before a word could leave his lips, Xaren abruptly thrust his sword at him and a roaring pillar of flame erupted from the blade’s tip.
The scorching fire shot upward, forcing the half-angel to beat his wings and dive down to avoid the inferno. His descent barely cleared the blast zone, but by then, Xaren was already dashing towards him on the ground.
Just before Xaren could close the gap, the half-angel slammed his foot into the earth, and a sudden, thunderous shockwave exploded outward. From the shattered ground, brilliant spikes of light erupted around Xaren’s position, but the grey demon, having already sensed them with Danger Sense, vanished upward in a blink, gravity reducing his weight as he soared skyward.
The half-angel spread his wings and followed immediately, but mid-ascent, Xaren hurled a Gravity Sphere at him. The dense orb shrieked through the air, its gravitation force sucking in loose debris, broken weapons, and even the bodies of nearby fighters.
The half-angel swerved hard, avoiding a direct collision with the sphere, but a body slammed into him from the side a moment later.
A human soldier, wide-eyed and screaming slammed into him like a battering ram.
The half-angel grunted, pushing the body away, only for an elven corpse to slam into him next. Then another. And another.
Xaren calmly charged his sword with aura while watching this, his expression a bit amused.
"You’re quite popular," he called out. "Everyone wants a piece of you."
I’LL RIP YOUR SPINE OUT, DEMON!" the half-angel roared, eyes filled with wrath as gold light crackled around his blade.
Without another word, Xaren shot towards him like a missile, and the half-angel met his charge head-on.
Their swords collided with a deafening clang, the force of the impact creating a shockwave that blasted downward, flattening the corpses on the ground, cracking the earth, and sending dust clouds spiralling into the air.
They broke apart for a second before engaging again, their blades moving in a blur of red and gold.
Xaren slashed low, aiming to cripple a leg, but the half-angel deflected the slash and countered with a diagonal cut Xaren barely dodged. Sparks flew as the blade scraped against Xaren’s aura skin, slicing into the edge of his shoulder.
A thin line of blood was drawn, but the wound was shallow, more a graze than an actual successful strike.
Xaren ducked under the next swing and retaliated with an upward slash, which the half-angel blocked. He spun to parry the follow-up strike and then slammed the hilt of his weapon into Xaren’s gut.
