Chapter 87: Missing
Chapter 87: Missing
Of course, here in the wilderness, gunfire would attract more than just trouble. Driving a vehicle itself was already risky.
At this moment, several silver skin apes blocked their path forward.
They wielded all sorts of crude weapons, with ravenous gleams shining in their eyes.
"What type of monsters are those?" Sophie narrowed her eyes.
"That’s a silver skin ape," Victor, who had stepped out with Casie, pointed out. "They’re very common here, with several rival clans that often clash with each other."
Sophie frowned. "Clans... that means they’re intelligent?"
"Yes, just slightly below humans, and their top chiefs are as intelligent as humans."
"We have to be careful then," Gabriel warned, his eyes flashing sharply. "Intelligent monsters are very difficult to deal with."
"You’re right," Sophie nodded. "A weaker intelligent monster can easily kill a powerful unintelligent one."
"Do we really need to fight all of them?" Casie asked, a slightly anxious look in her eyes.
Looking over, she could see at least a hundred silver skin apes.
The monsters and the humans watched each other, tension slowly building in the air.
"Not really." Gabriel shook his head. "The goal of the mission is submitting the crate. Who knows what kind of enemies we’ll face ahead?"
Suddenly, the horde of apes parted as a much larger one stepped out—this one with compact muscles, large tribal attire, and a massive hammer-like weapon.
The rest of the apes bowed their heads in respect to this particular silver skin ape, as he was the one who had defeated everyone in the clan to emerge as the chief.
Of course, Gabriel, Sophie, Casie, and Victor didn’t really know about this.
Gogi pointed his staff at Gabriel.
He spoke—at least they thought so, but from their perspective, it sounded no different than howls and growls.
Seeing the humans’ blank gazes, the ape chief frowned, then pointed at both Sophie and Casie, and then at himself.
This time, everyone understood what he meant, and their expressions turned dark.
"These apes... they’re despicable, just like the Goblins!" Victor spat.
An irritated look crossed both women’s faces, and a chilling killing intent burst from their bodies.
"Get inside, I’ll clear a path for us!" Gabriel said, his cold eyes locked on those of the ape chief.
"I would help you," Sophie insisted.
"Well, I’ll be inside!" Victor didn’t hesitate and rushed in.
Casie hesitated but realized even if she stayed out, she wouldn’t be of much help anyway, so she entered as well.
The ape growled, realizing the humans wouldn’t agree to his demand. He instantly pointed forward.
Like war-hungry beasts, the pack of apes rushed forward, causing the ground to tremble.
Gabriel and Sophie remained calm, watching them with cold gazes.
While Sophie chanted a spell, Gabriel calmly swapped his warrior class to the Demonic Exorcist.
When the apes drew closer, he quickly activated the demonic skill [Hellfire Ring!]
FWOOOOOM!
Immediately, a sudden burst of crimson flames erupted around him, forming a blazing ring that spread outward.
Sophie was at first frightened when she saw the ring, but Gabriel calmly stated:
"It won’t hurt you."
As he said this, instead of waiting for the apes to come to him, he charged into their midst, the blazing ring following him.
When the first group of apes landed inside the ring—
SHHHH!
Their silver fur immediately caught on fire.

Gabriel moved in a straight line, burning all the apes that dared to come close.
"This is our chance!" A determined look appeared on Victor’s face as he hit the gas, and the vehicle barreled forward, following the straight path Gabriel had created.
Sophie moved right behind, tossing her seeds into the sea of silver skin apes, causing chaos in their midst.
Ten seconds later, Gabriel’s Hellfire Ring slowly faded, but fortunately, it wasn’t a skill with a cooldown, so he activated it again.
The skill naturally consumed only 50 MP; however, he overcharged it with a whopping 200 MP. It became so intense that the enemy apes didn’t need to step into the ring to feel the heat.
And with the flaming, devouring vines, it was truly chaotic—making the apes choose between flesh-eating plants and a ring of flames.
Some time later, Gabriel and Sophie outran the sea of silver skin apes, who were too busy trying to save themselves.
"Phew, that was fun and intense!" Sophie exclaimed as they finally outran the danger.
Gabriel didn’t respond immediately. He was still scanning their surroundings, his [Combat Visor Mk.1] picking up lingering heat signatures behind them.
He could still hear the cries of burning apes and the distant thrum of the vehicle’s engine moving further ahead.
"Get in," Victor called from the vehicle, slowing down just enough for them to catch up.
Gabriel jumped in first, pulling Sophie in with him before slamming the door shut.
"That was reckless!" Cassie scolded with worry.
"But it worked," Sophie grinned, flicking a bit of soot off her arm.
Victor exhaled deeply, gripping the steering wheel. "We need to move fast. The apes might regroup and come after us with more numbers."
Gabriel nodded and leaned back, allowing his class to switch back to [Berserker] for now. His mana had dropped significantly, but fortunately, he had something with him.
"Here you go," Sophie said, handing a mana elixir to him.
"Thanks, but I already have one with me." He politely declined as he retrieved one of the Moonlight Dewdrops he had gotten during the ruin exploration.
One of them increased mana regeneration by x15 for 48 hours.
"Oh." A slightly awkward expression appeared on Sophie’s face as she placed her mana elixir back.
’Doesn’t he trust me?’ she thought bitterly. ’After all we went through in that ruin, I thought he would at least accept things from me.’
While gulping down the Moonlight Dewdrop, from the corner of his eye, Gabriel suddenly noticed something was missing.
"Where’s the crate? Please tell me this is a joke."
Everyone looked toward the back of the vehicle—where the armored lockbox used to be.
It was gone.
