Chapter 1192: Chapter 1186 Doubts in Journey to the West

If someone were to read Journey to the West carefully and repeatedly, three to five times, or even eight to ten times, they would find that there are far too many inconsistencies in the book that simply cannot be explained by common sense.

For instance, Sun Wukong, who made a ruckus in the Heavenly Palace and whom even the Jade Emperor and the one hundred thousand celestial soldiers and generals could not subdue, why then, on the journey to the West, was he unable to defeat some demons?

Another example, why did Tang Monk go to the Western Heavens to retrieve the scriptures and what was the purpose of retrieving them? Could it be that his scripture-retrieval was truly meant for the salvation of all sentient beings?

Sun Wukong could travel 108,000 miles in one somersault, he could have easily flown to the Western Heavens to retrieve the scriptures, so why did he have to travel there at a snail’s pace, isn’t that more troublesome?

Sun Wukong was trapped in the Supreme Elder Lord’s Eight Trigrams Furnace for forty-nine days without being burnt to death, but why was he nearly burnt to death by a mere blast of fire from Red Boy?

If the deities are immortal, then why do they all rush to eat the Queen Mother’s peaches?

These questions are all very worth pondering.

Especially, is the Jade Emperor really inept and incompetent? If so, how could he possibly become the ruler of all the deities?

Isn’t Tang Monk the reincarnation of a high-level monk? Why can’t he get past his fears, often getting scared out of his wits?

Why do the demons all target Tang Monk’s flesh, and on what basis do they claim that eating his flesh grants immortality? Why has not a single demon ever doubted this claim?

All of this can’t necessarily be explained just by having read Journey to the West.

It can be said that upon examination, Journey to the West is full of contradictions and many egregious errors that leave one speechless.

Everyone knows that Tang Monk’s father was the top scholar Chen Guangrui, and his mother was Yin Wenjiao.

The story of Tang Monk’s origins in Journey to the West tells that Chen Guangrui became the top scholar and then encountered Chancellor Yin’s daughter, Miss Yin, who was seeking a husband by throwing an embroidered ball, and the ball just happened to hit the top scholar’s official hat.

Thus, the two of them were joined in marriage, as Chen Guangrui married the Prime Minister’s daughter.

When Chen Guangrui left for his official post in Jiangzhou, he departed from Chancellor Yin’s residence and surprisingly, he didn’t have a single Personal Bodyguard with him, traveling only with his wife and a family servant.

Upon reaching the Hongjiang Ferry, Boatman Liu Hong and Li Biao, lusting after his wife, killed Chen Guangrui and the family servant, and then coerced Miss Yin into compliance.

Miss Yin, seeing no way out, reluctantly accepted Liu Hong.

At this point, something outrageous happened: Liu Hong dared to don the top scholar’s robes, carry his official documents, and with Miss Yin, posed as the official appointed by the court to take up his post in Jiangzhou.

Liu Hong, just a river bandit, actually dared to impersonate a court-appointed official, and with a living witness at that, wasn’t he afraid Miss Yin would harm him?

However, in reality, Miss Yin not only did not expose this murderer of her husband, but Liu Hong also managed to hold an official position in Jiangzhou for a full eighteen years.

If Miss Yin chose to compromise before, it was because she was already pregnant with a child, who would become the Tang Monk; out of her love as a mother and wishing for her child to live, she endured and stayed alive.

After the child was born and due to certain events, Miss Yin placed the baby in the river and let him go.

At this point, Miss Yin should have had no more concerns, she could have chosen to report the crime and punish the murderer of her husband.

But Miss Yin did not speak up, instead she continued to live with Liu Hong.

What’s even more bizarre is that Boatman Liu Hong had held an official position in Jiangzhou for eighteen years without anyone detecting it.

Miss Yin shared the bed with the murderer who killed her own husband for eighteen years, an unimaginable situation to contemplate.

Later, when Tang Monk grew up and went to the Capital City to report at the age of eighteen, Chancellor Yin actually dispatched sixty thousand Imperial Guards to capture him, which only added to the oddness of the situation.

After Chen Guangrui came back to life, the family was reunited, which should have been a perfect ending. Yet at this time, Miss Yin committed suicide calmly. Is the ending tragic or simply perplexing?

Just this one Chapter alone contains various contradictions, not to mention that the entire Journey to the West is filled with even more absurd events. How old is Li Changlin? Can he really shoulder the responsibility of being a celebrity guest?

People doubted Li Changlin’s abilities, not to intentionally find fault with him, but because the show A Big Talk About Journey to the West is of great importance to Dragon TV. Now, as comrades in the same trench, they share in both glory and loss, naturally taking into consideration all aspects of the situation.

"How about this? When Li Changlin arrives later, let’s assess him first?" colleagues suggested, which made Wen Chengzai feel somewhat uncertain too.

To tell the truth, the reason he decided to invite Li Changlin was mainly due to his recognition of Li’s eloquence, and of course, there was also the favor from Ye Xiyao.

Ye Xiyao had collaborations with Dragon TV, and everybody in the station was well aware of it.

It was because Wen Chengzai saw this opportunity that he made a firm decision.

But the concerns of his colleagues were not unfounded.

If it turns out that out of personal favor the show ends up being ruined, Wen Chengzai wouldn’t even have a place to cry.

"If we now say we want to do an assessment, we might offend Ye Xiyao." Among the dozens of staff in the production team, there were naturally those who understood the implications.

Wen Chengzai had already made it quite clear just now, inviting Li Changlin meant signing him directly. If they were to come up with an assessment now, that would be seriously offending people.

"So, what should we do about this?" Wen Chengzai was flustered; this wouldn’t work, that wouldn’t do either, leaving the matter difficult to handle.

He estimated that Li Changlin would arrive soon, and if they couldn’t give a definitive answer by then, Wen Chengzai’s reputation would be in tatters.

If Li Changlin were just an ordinary person, even if he truly had a significant influence among his friends, Wen Chengzai wouldn’t be so concerned.

But the problem now was that Ye Xiyao was Li Changlin’s girlfriend, so he really couldn’t afford to be too drastic.

"How about this, I think during this afternoon’s recording, we could let a few guests engage in some discussion. I believe Li Changlin is a sensible person; once he understands the situation, I trust he won’t speak out of turn during the recording!" Finally, an assistant director stepped forward with a suggestion.

"That could work."

"Right, it would be best to have him back out gracefully."

"It seems we’ve found the best solution."

"Just hope that Li Changlin won’t be rash due to his youth."

While everyone was discussing fervently, little did they know that Li Changlin had already arrived at the door.
