Chapter 591: Chapter 637: Ambush on the Way

At that moment, far beyond the docks, several people were gathered at a vantage point.

The leader was a woman, clad in a black leather jacket that revealed her curvy figure without omission. With burgundy wavy hair cascading over her shoulders, her arms were folded across her chest. She exuded an air of control and was not to be underestimated, her domineering presence unmistakable.

Behind the woman stood several men, backbone types, who followed her. In their eyes, she was the queen.

The night breeze played with her hair in the relative silence of the area, but eventually someone couldn’t hold back and broke the quiet, "Cao Chun and that guy named Fang Yi are cooperating. I heard they are bringing in good stuff tonight. What do you think..."

"That Cao Chun really thinks he can hide his actions from everyone? Let him be. This way we can profit and slap Cao Chun in the face at the same time—two birds with one stone."

"Yes, I agree!"

"That Fang Yi is nothing special; this is a prime opportunity to deal with Cao Chun."

The men spoke up, their emotions running high.

However, the woman’s face remained frosty and indifferent.

After a long while, once the voices behind her had quieted down, the woman slowly began to speak, "Forget it."

Just two words were enough to stun the men.

"How can you..."

The woman abruptly turned around, her gaze piercing like a sword, "Are you questioning me?"

"No... we would never dare..."

The men quickly lowered their heads.

The woman’s eyes flashed sharply as she declared, "I’m the top dog here; I have my own plans. There’s no need for you to worry about that. Your concern should be how to follow my orders."

"...Yes."

"Alright, someone go check on what Zhou Shiban is up to. I’m sure he has also received the news and won’t just sit back; he’ll take action."

Having said that, the woman turned back around to continue overlooking the dark sea in the night wind.

The fishing boat approached the shore and Earth Snake jumped down, with Fang Yi and his people already waiting for him.

"Brother Yi," Earth Snake reported to Fang Yi, "everything’s been taken care of without a hitch."

Fang Yi nodded, then introduced Cao Chun to Earth Snake, who appeared slightly moved upon seeing him.

"Are you the famed Earth Snake of the open sea?" Cao Chun inquired.

"Chairman Cao, you know of me?" Earth Snake was mildly surprised.

"Of course, I’ve heard of your reputation," Cao Chun said.

Chairman Cao is too kind," Earth Snake responded.

Cao Chun had some understanding of Earth Snake. Being well-acquainted with maritime affairs, Cao Chun had once considered recruiting Earth Snake, though nothing had come of it.

Cao Chun hadn’t expected Earth Snake to be following Fang Yi, much less to show such respect towards him.

Apart from inwardly marveling, Cao Chun also started to consider what stance to take with Fang Yi.

...

The unloading had begun; Earth Snake’s men were his skilled subordinates. Despite the significant losses Fang Yi had dealt them initially, Fang Yi’s replenishments meant there was no major issue.

Cao Chun had brought several large trucks for transporting the goods, and the hundred-plus men he brought were there to help with the moving; thus, the work was completed with extraordinary efficiency.

Fang Yi watched as everyone unloaded the cargo when suddenly, a commotion was heard from the distance.

Every face changed color.

Cao Chun’s face froze, and Cao Yongjun, who was beside him, immediately shouted at Fang Yi, "Damn it! Fang Yi, you’ve betrayed us!" He instinctively shifted the blame onto Fang Yi.

"You’re overthinking it," Fang Yi returned coolly.

Cao Yongjun wanted to retort but was silenced by a slap from Cao Chun, forcing him to swallow his words.

This was Cao Chun showing where he stood, maintaining his cool in the heat of the moment, "Fang Yi, you and I both understand, there’s no reason for either of us to betray the other."

Fang Yi gave Cao Chun a look and nodded, "Right, neither of us has a reason to betray the other."

Unsure how to grip Fang Yi’s indifferent attitude, Cao Chun fell silent for a moment before proposing, "I’ll hold them off. You get away?"

This was a sign of considerable respect for Fang Yi, providing him with reassurance. As long as the goods were in Fang Yi’s hands, he would have the upper hand.

"...Okay." Fang Yi did not refuse.

Cao Chun sighed with relief, fearing Fang Yi would think he was a ’traitor.’ He then instructed Cao Yongjun to follow Fang Yi before hurrying off with dozens of men.

"Fang Yi," came the soft voice of Su Ge’er.

"Don’t worry; let’s go ahead," Fang Yi said calmly, then glanced at Cao Yongjun, "Young Master Cao, stick close. If you get lost, I’ll have a hard time explaining to Chairman Cao."

Fang Yi understood Cao Chun’s intention; having Cao Yongjun stay was to use him as a hostage and to put Fang Yi’s mind at ease.

Then, Fang Yi had Earth Snake and Yang Dingfeng organize the manpower, along with the men Cao Chun had left behind, to move the goods. Meanwhile, Fang Yi took the wheel, with Su Ge’er and Cao Yongjun in tow, leading the way.

"The factory is definitely out of question; where should we go now?" Su Ge’er asked.

"What you think of, I’ve thought of too," Fang Yi replied indifferently. "Don’t worry; I have a place in mind."

The trucks behind them were loaded with valuable goods, and the factory was off-limits. It might even be blockaded, so finding a safe hideout on short notice was impossible.

But Fang Yi had done his homework and anticipated such a scenario. At that moment, he was completely calm and composed.

They reached a main highway with almost no traffic around. Just as Fang Yi crossed it, with the other trucks close behind, intense headlights flared in the distance.

Several off-road vehicles charged towards them. Someone stood out from the sunroof, gazing coldly in their direction.

Fang Yi spun the car sharply, drifting. The high-speed spinning tires screeched against the pavement, an ear-piercing sound.

Ahead, a spike-studded roadblock was laid out, not too far from Fang Yi’s car.

Fang Yi hit the clutch and brake just as he was about to strike the roadblock. The car’s rear swung out, stopping parallel to the obstruction. Inside the car, Fang Yi was fine, but Su Ge’er nearly flew out.

In that lightning-fast moment, Fang Yi grabbed Su Ge’er’s arm, but a trickle of blood still sprayed from her lips.
