Chapter 531: Chapter 571: May I Borrow a Light?
"Report, Master," said the messenger, lowering his voice with a sense of deep waters, "we have found the man, but for some reason, this Ma Yong is actually in the Yunfei Mansion."
Fang Yi’s brows knitted together tightly as he had not anticipated that Ma Yong would take refuge in Yunfei Mansion.
Yunfei Mansion was a place guarded by personnel, where the security was extremely strict. Everyone who lived there held high-ranking positions with imposing identities.
He waved the messenger away and lit a cigarette, contemplating his strategy.
"Could it be that this Ma Yong has connections in Yunfei Mansion? Or perhaps one of his relatives is a high official?" Fang Yi considered that it might be difficult to extract Ma Yong from inside.
After all, it was no ordinary place. Causing a disturbance there could lead to unthinkable consequences, even with Fang Yi’s abilities, if his actions were exposed.
Fang Yi hadn’t expected that capturing a minor character would be so challenging, especially since he didn’t know which household within Yunfei Mansion was harboring Ma Yong.
After pondering for a long time, Fang Yi got an idea. He went to a nearby herbal medicine shop, gathered some herbs, and returned home to concoct. Soon after, he refined several Great Replenishing Pills.
"Hmm, Great Tiger Replenishing Pills, one can endure for two hours when taken, and they also increase in size. I suppose Assemblyman Li would appreciate this," Fang Yi muttered to himself, storing the pills carefully.
The Great Tiger Replenishing Pills were actually the same kind that Fang Yi had given to Ying Zheng. They had an academic name and, as suggested by their name, could make a man as fierce as a tiger and as lively as a dragon in bed. They were certainly enough to handle a wife as demanding as a wolf.
With that in mind, Fang Yi took several of the Great Tiger Replenishing Pills and then bought two bottles of white liquor from the supermarket before heading to Yunfei Mansion.
...
At this moment, the atmosphere in Yunfei Mansion was extremely tense.
Li Chun and his wife were at home, and even Secretary Hu Guanqing was present; the three were as eager as if preparing for battle.
"Guanqing, are you certain you saw it clearly? That elderly person really was Chief Zhu?" Yu Minjing asked incredulously, her face filled with disbelief and anxiety.
"Madam, I wouldn’t dare speak carelessly about this matter. At first, I thought I had seen incorrectly and took several more glances. Then, after checking with a photograph, I was sure it was Chief Zhu," said Hu Guanqing with conviction.
"Really? Chief Zhu? If he has appeared in Yunfei Mansion, we must definitely pay him a visit. It would be improper not to," Yu Minjing glanced at her husband.
"Yes, we must go," Li Chun said. "I heard Chief Zhu likes calligraphy and painting. Minjing, go fetch the ’Moon Poem’ scroll. We will take it when we visit Chief Zhu."
"Okay," nodded Yu Minjing, knowing how important this matter was for her husband and that it could potentially elevate his position further.
In the world of officialdom, networking was of utmost importance. Her husband had reached his current position through his own abilities, which was already his limit. The senior official who used to look after him was no longer around, so it was essential to seek new connections.
And Chief Zhu was the best choice for this.
Li Chun went back to change his outfit while Yu Minjing started making preparations. Hu Guanqing, after the two had retreated to their room, received a phone call.
"Hello, Brother Fang, what made you think to call me?" laughed Hu Guanqing.
"I was just thinking of you, Brother Hu," said Fang Yi on the other end.
"You don’t say! Alright, let’s find a time, and I’ll set a table for you," Hu Guanqing offered.
"That sounds good. But Brother Hu, I need a favor. I would like to meet with Assemblyman Li, would that be possible?" Fang Yi asked from the other end of the phone.
"That’s a bit tricky. I probably won’t have time today; Congressman Li will need to leave soon," Hu Guanqing said.
"Oh, that’s fine. Some other time," Fang Yi replied.
After hanging up the phone, Fang Yi stood outside Yunfei Mansion. It was broad daylight, and he stood there holding two bottles of boxed wine. About ten minutes had passed when he was already targeted by a guard who must have seen him as a suspicious character.
"Damn it, that won’t do; I have to get inside," he muttered to himself, quickly pondering his next move.
A guard was already making his way over to him.
"Sir, this is Yunfei Mansion. If you don’t have a pass or an invitation, please leave immediately," the guard said politely and without looking down on him.
"About that... I’ve been here once before. I know Congressman Li. Could you perhaps make an exception? I’d like to see Congressman Li," Fang Yi said.
"Sorry, that’s not possible," the guard replied, not giving any leeway.
But that was to be expected. It was his duty, after all.
Just then, a black sedan pulled up next to Fang Yi. The window rolled down, and an elderly man poked his head out and said, "Fang Yi, is that you?"
Fang Yi turned around and was pleasantly surprised: "Old Zhou."
Zhou Xuewen chuckled and said, "What are you doing standing out here? Why don’t you come in?"
Fang Yi shrugged, "Old Zhou, I can’t get in."
Realizing the situation, Zhou Xuewen got out of the car and spoke a few words to the guard, who clearly recognized Zhou Xuewen, and then nodded in agreement. Still, a body search was mandatory. After searching Fang Yi, they allowed him to enter.
Inside, Fang Yi said to Zhou Xuewen, "Old Zhou, I guess you’re here to see Congressman Li? He’s not at home today." As he spoke, he looked around.
"You’re not here to see Congressman Li, are you?" Zhou Xuewen inquired.
Fang Yi chuckled and replied, "Erm, actually I’m here to meet someone."
"Someone?"
"Yes, a minor figure from the Childe Corporation. I heard he came here, so..."
The incident involving the Childe Corporation was causing a stir in Moon City, and Zhou Xuewen must have heard about it. Hence, Fang Yi didn’t elaborate, but Zhou Xuewen understood.
"Fang Yi, didn’t Nemo also invest money in it? I heard that Childe Corporation is involved in fundraising fraud. If you’ve put money in it, getting it back will be difficult," Zhou Xuewen expressed his concern.
"Thank you for your concern, Old Zhou," said Fang Yi.
"Well then, go ahead, but be careful around here. This is Yunfei Mansion, home to some elders who have retired from Tianjing. Don’t stir up trouble," Zhou Xuewen warned him before leaving.
Fang Yi then casually strolled around Yunfei Mansion, realizing that finding Ma Yong quickly would be challenging. So he wasn’t in a hurry. He was just getting familiar with the place, and if possible, he contemplated the idea of sneaking around after dark.
The daytime wasn’t the right time to make a move, but the night was Fang Yi’s playground.
Continuing his casual walk for about half an hour, Fang Yi didn’t know exactly where he was, but he found a small bamboo grove. Through the bamboo, he saw an old man sitting there. Intrigued, he thought it wouldn’t hurt to go over and greet him.
Fang Yi smoothly crossed the fence, went through the small bamboo grove, and came up quietly behind the old man, saying, "Excuse me, sir, could I borrow a light?"
