Chapter 487: Chapter 523: Business is down, the maids are here to fill in!
"Hey, buddy, are you out of your mind, going to set up a stall and practice medicine? Did your head get squished by a door?" Lin Shang said.
Fang Yi smiled slightly and replied, "Why not? I’m about to use this ten thousand yuan to start a business, so naturally, I should do what I can manage. Of course, it’s not just practicing medicine at a stall, I can do some other things too."
"Like what?"
"The most profitable small businesses nowadays are definitely street stalls. You’re right, just as Yao Bo said earlier, I was maybe being a bit too optimistic, but it’s not a bad idea after all. While practicing medicine, I could set up a barbecue stall next to it, how could I not make money?"
As Fang Yi spoke, a contemplative look crossed his face; in fact, what Yao Bo had mentioned was indeed an idea, and as he spoke, Fang Yi’s mind surged with thoughts prompted by Yao Bo’s suggestion.
It wasn’t just practicing medicine; he could also dabble in some small businesses. Who the heck said that being a doctor means you can’t cook? If your thinking is restricted to just that, you’ve got no one to blame but yourself for starving to death.
Suddenly, Yao Bo next to him spoke up, "Brother Yi, can I ask you something? How did you come up with this idea? I really don’t get it, are you just bored after having a full meal?"
Fang Yi casually replied, "Your sister-in-law told me to do it."
Yao Bo, with a puzzled and clueless face, asked, "Which sister-in-law?"
"Uh..." Fang Yi intended to explain, but seeing Yao Bo’s befuddled look, he couldn’t help but want to hit him.
But Lin Shang was also causing trouble: "Yeah, tell us, which sister-in-law?"
Fang Yi said, "You two are looking for trouble, huh?" A cruel smile appeared on his face.
Lin Shang stood up, looking for a change of topic, "There’s an urgent matter over in Xianghua City, I better leave now."
Yao Bo also stood up, "Bro Yi, I’m going to follow this effeminate guy, you go on with your business."
However, before the two could take a few steps, Fang Yi grabbed their shoulders and wrapped his arms around their necks, chuckling, "Don’t be in a rush to go back. I’m starting a business; if you two stay out of this, that would be really unsupportive."
"What are you thinking of doing?" Lin Shang asked.
"Brother Yi, whatever you say goes," Yao Bo said, thumping his chest in a hearty manner.
Fang Yi smiled and said, "That’s easy then. Listen carefully to what I say and just do it. When we make money, I’ll share a portion with you two."
Lin Shang rolled his eyes, clearly skeptical, and Yao Bo’s enthusiasm wasn’t much higher. It was obvious that both of them, like Lin Shang, doubted how much money Fang Yi could actually make.
But Fang Yi had no doubts about his plan and simply told them to go handle it. The two were highly efficient and had taken care of the arrangements by that afternoon.
Yao Bo had acquired an electric tricycle with a barbecue rack, seasoning pots, and all the necessary barbecue provisions; he had prepared all the items for grilling in just half a day’s time.
And looking at Lin Shang, he had become even ’prettier’ than before.
Yes, Lin Shang had gotten prettier. This guy naturally had a face even more beautiful than a woman’s, and a touch of light makeup only enhanced his features. Even the handsome men of Cangyun couldn’t compare, and Fang Yi felt inferior.
Seeing Fang Yi puffing his cheeks to hold back laughter, Lin Shang rolled his eyes and said, "You made me dress up like this, if you don’t give me a clear explanation, I’m going to kill you!"
Fang Yi laughed out loud and replied, "Don’t rush, beauty... I mean, handsome guy, let’s go set up a stall." He patted Lin Shang on the shoulder.
Fang Yi mounted the electric tricycle, while Lin Shang and Yao Bo drove Fang Yi’s black BMW, and the three of them headed for the Red Light Night Market together.
Yao Bo had already reserved a stall there, whether it was a good location or not, they’d set up shop first and figure things out later.
Fang Yi parked the car and then quickly sprang into action. With Yao Bo’s help and his own fast pace, the barbecue stand was set up in no time.
Next, some tables and chairs were needed, which could be easily found nearby. Fang Yi directed Lin Shang to drive and buy them, and after a flurry of activity, they were soon ready for business.
Dreams are full, but reality is skeletal. An hour into the opening, no one showed any interest in the barbecue stand.
"Yi Bro, there are no customers; this isn’t good!" Yao Bo, the least patient among them, quickly voiced his complaints.
"Yeah, having no customers is indeed no good," Fang Yi mused, then turned his gaze upon Lin Shang.
At that moment, Lin Shang was crouching to one side, smoking. Suddenly feeling Fang Yi’s stare, Lin Shang, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth, stood up and said, "Don’t look at me. I’m absolutely not doing anything that involves selling my looks!"
Fang Yi let out a cold laugh, "That’s not up to you."
Fang Yi was far stronger than Lin Shang. If it came down to a fight, Lin Shang stood no chance against him so the outcome was obvious.
Half an hour later, next to the barbecue cart, a constrained maid stood shyly with her head bowed, like a young lady ready for marriage, drawing the gaze of passersby. The originally deserted barbecue stall finally started to attract some life.
"I’ll take five skewers of kidneys, two beers, and have that maid bring them to me," a loud-mouthed man said, his eyes continually sneaking peeks at the maid.
They had prepared five tables, and now one was occupied by three guests. Anyway, they had at least started to do business.
In an instant, the maid looked furious. Fang Yi approached her and said, "What are you staring at? Yes, you, hurry up and deliver the stuff."
"Damn it, I’m going to steal you away!" Lin Shang ground his teeth.
"Stealing me away is another matter; first bring over the five skewers of kidneys and two beers," Fang Yi said cheerfully. "Of course, if you can beat me, I’ll wear the maid outfit."
"Why doesn’t that guy dress up as the maid?" Lin Shang said, pointing at Yao Bo, who was bustling around the barbecue, resentment in his eyes.
"Having Yao Bo dress up as a maid, you wouldn’t even believe that yourself," Fang Yi urged. "Come on, stop dawdling. We have finally started doing business; don’t screw it up for me."
"Motherfucker, to have known a friend like you is the biggest mistake of my life," Lin Shang grumbled resentfully.
"To have known a friend like you is the biggest joy of my life," Fang Yi retorted.
With Lin Shang dressed as a maid, no matter what, it certainly attracted eyeballs and brought in some customers to get the business going. However, there were just a few scattered tables of guests, mostly onlookers driven by curiosity without the intention of actually eating.
More than an hour passed, and Fang Yi noticed something was wrong. If the barbecue business wasn’t good, how would he continue his own stall to practice medicine?
No!
This was absolutely not okay!
Inadvertently, Fang Yi glanced at the resentful-faced Lin Shang. If one maid wasn’t enough, then they’d get two more. If two weren’t enough, then they’d get four. In any case, he must attract customers!
And so, Fang Yi took out his cell phone, dialed a number, and said with a smile, "Xiao Xuan, what are you up to... Come over, I’ll treat you to some food..."
After that, Fang Yi called Ding Miaoyan, then Zhou Peilan.
Damn it, I refuse to believe that I can’t make this business work.
Fang Yi had a strong sense of determination, just like the time he decided to go robbing. After all, wasn’t doing business just like robbing, both involving taking money from others’ pockets? It’s all about being proactive or reactive.
