Chapter 380: Chapter 404: I’m Looking for Jiang Lili
"The call won’t go through," Fang Yi’s expression was grim.
"Something must have happened to Xu He, I’ll rush back immediately," Shen Binnan said as she tried to get up in a hurry.
"Stop!" Fang Yi suddenly called out to her.
Before Shen Binnan could speak, Fang Yi took the initiative and said, "We need you to stay here and deal with Luo Mingguang; there can be no mistakes. I’ll rush back."
This was about taking care of the big picture; someone had to stay here to hold the fort.
"But..." Shen Binnan started.
"There are no buts," Fang Yi said coldly. "You must stay here to deal with Luo Mingguang. He wouldn’t dare do anything to you because your father already knows you’re here. If he touches you, he’d be asking for trouble. Plus, your presence here can put pressure on Luo Mingguang. Do you understand?"
How could Shen Binnan not understand? She had to stay; without her, Luo Mingguang wouldn’t stay in line. In three days, Shen Binnan would need to exert pressure on Luo Mingguang again. If Fang Yi were here instead, it would be ineffective.
As for Xu He, her phone was off. Even if Shen Binnan went back, it would be useless because she wasn’t good at searching for people. Fang Yi had to be the one to handle it.
Besides, Fang Yi and Xu He’s relationship was not bad; after all, they were friends. Fang Yi could also comfort and persuade Xu He.
By all accounts, it was Fang Yi who should go back.
Seeing that Shen Binnan’s emotions slowly stabilized, Fang Yi continued, "By the way, I’ll give you Liu Lang’s phone number. Call him later and have him send someone to protect you. Liu Lang is quite close to me. If you need anything or there’s something you need to handle, you can tell him. Got it?"
Shen Binnan nodded somewhat mechanically.
Fang Yi said no more; he donned his coat and left the hotel.
Starting the red Audi, Fang Yi floored the accelerator and rushed back to Moon City as fast as he could.
While on the road, Fang Yi first called Liu Lang to have him send someone to protect Shen Binnan and then dialed Xu He’s number, which was off. After trying over a dozen times, it was still off.
With no other choice, Fang Yi could only return to Moon City first, then headed straight to Xu He’s company.
Upon arriving at Xu He’s company, Fang Yi found Wu Han, who was also in a great hurry. Seeing Fang Yi, Wu Han quickly approached and said, "Mr. Fang, you’re here. Have you seen Xu He? Our company has been looking for her; we’ve had to push back several announcements."
"Calm down first," Fang Yi said. "What’s the real story about that news?"
As Xu He’s agent, Wu Han knew the full story and said, "I really don’t know. It just exploded out of nowhere. I thought about keeping it from Xu He, but she saw it herself and then disappeared early this morning."
"And how true is that news?"
"Half-true, half-false," Wu Han replied.
"What does that mean?"
"Xu He indeed came from a small poverty-stricken village in Southern Domain City. Since she became famous, she has donated a sum of money to it, and every year since then she’s donated to help develop her hometown. But it’s a small village, and it’s very difficult to develop. To this day, the roads haven’t been fixed. And Xu He isn’t a philanthropist, so..."
Through Wu Han’s explanation, Fang Yi got the picture.
Xu He had not been ungrateful; she had donated to her village almost every year. However, that was only a drop in the bucket considering the village’s needs. It was impossible for a mountain village to develop just like that.
In fact, Xu He had already done as much as she could; after all, she was not a philanthropist. She couldn’t possibly give all the money she earned to her hometown—that wouldn’t be kindness, that would be madness.
Xu He’s behavior could really be considered thoroughly kind and righteous, but for some reason, when the matter exploded yesterday and spread across the internet, the whole network was almost fiercely condemning Xu He.
Fang Yi was starting to feel like cursing someone. This was downright moral abduction.
But now wasn’t the time to curse. Fang Yi pondered for a moment and said, "Don’t be anxious, it’s no use rushing. The most important thing is to find Xu He first. Do you have any idea where Xu He might usually go?"
Wu Han shook his head and said, "Although I am Xu He’s agent, I don’t concern myself with her private life. After all, Xu He is not like other female celebrities, and so I have a lot of trust in her."
Fang Yi frowned and asked, "Where does Jiang Lili live?"
Wu Han’s expression changed as he said, "Mr. Fang, are you planning to..."
Fang Yi said, "I’m just going to pay her a visit, nothing malicious."
Nothing malicious? Wu Han didn’t believe it. But in order to find Xu He, Wu Han still ended up betraying Jiang Lili’s location. After all, Jiang Lili wasn’t one of his artists.
After finding out Jiang Lili’s address, Fang Yi left the company.
Concerning Xu He’s ’scandal’ that had been leaked, anyone with a bit of sense could probably guess that it likely had something to do with Jiang Lili. Furthermore, thinking back to what Kong Qingci had told him that night, Fang Yi felt he had to meet Jiang Lili.
Jiang Lili sure lived comfortably in a villa community. Fang Yi drove a red Audi over, saying he was there to find someone, which didn’t arouse the security guard’s suspicion. After entering the villa community, Fang Yi looked around for a while before locating Jiang Lili’s residence.
Ding-dong~~~
Fang Yi rang the doorbell, and soon there were footsteps from inside. The door was opened by a female housemaid who asked who he was looking for.
"I’m here to see Jiang Lili," Fang Yi said with a smile on his face.
Just at that moment, Jiang Lili came down from upstairs. Seeing Fang Yi outside, her face went pale, and without a hint of grace, she shouted, "Close the door! Close it quickly!"
But... it was too late!
Fang Yi pushed past the housemaid and walked straight in, heading toward Jiang Lili.
"Housemaid! Call the police quickly!" Jiang Lili was shaking with fear.
Fang Yi turned around to see the housemaid about to pick up the landline to call the police and flashed a dagger, which frightened the housemaid so much that she dropped the phone. Fang Yi didn’t want to be the bad guy, but unfortunately, he had to be one right now.
Terrified, Jiang Lili turned and ran upstairs. Fang Yi wasn’t in a hurry. By the time Jiang Lili reached her bedroom and slammed the door shut, barely catching her breath, a loud thud resounded—someone had kicked the bedroom door open, and Fang Yi walked in from outside.
Fang Yi’s eyes were cold, his face wearing a menacing smirk as he said, "I’m just here to visit you, why be so afraid? I’m not interested in you and won’t rape you."
With nowhere left to hide in the bedroom, Jiang Lili could only scramble to the bed and grab a pillow to use as a shield.
"What... what do you want to do?!" Jiang Lili said, panicked.
"I’ve got some questions for you." The dagger in Fang Yi’s hand slipped and embedded itself into the wooden floor, startling Jiang Lili again. Her face, which should’ve been beguiling, had turned deathly pale.
Jiang Lili swallowed nervously and said, "What... what do you want to ask?"
Fang Yi said coldly, "Regarding the news about Xu He, who leaked it?"
Upon hearing Fang Yi’s question, Jiang Lili’s heart sank.
