Chapter 343 - 367: Brother-in-law, what are you doing here?
Chapter 343: Chapter 367: Brother-in-law, what are you doing here?
"Ying sister? Why are you here?" Fang Yi was somewhat surprised.
"I’m here to pick you up," Zhao Xueying smiled.
"Pick me up?"
"You saved my father-in-law, so I have arranged a banquet at the Tianjing Fragrance Pavilion to invite you. I wonder if you would be interested in going," Zhao Xueying said, her smile as radiant as a pure snow lotus.
Fang Yi, who had no place to go at the moment, smiled and said, "Well, in that case, I’m troubling you, Ying sister."
Fang Yi planned to have a meal first and then find a hotel to stay in. He had taken to heart the way he was set up today and felt he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he didn’t settle the score.
So Fang Yi got into the car and left with Zhao Xueying.
In the car, Zhao Xueying looked at Fang Yi in the rearview mirror and said with a smile, "By the way, Fang Yi, tell me about some of the local customs and characters in Moon City."
She felt the atmosphere in the car was a bit dull, so she took the initiative to strike up a conversation.
Fang Yi smiled and replied, "Ying sister, haven’t you been to Moon City?"
Zhao Xueying said, "I’ve been there a few times, but only briefly each time without spending much time. I’ve heard that Moon City has many beautiful women, and that they’re all very attractive. I wonder, Fang Yi, do you have a girlfriend?"
Fang Yi laughed and said, "Well... it’s kind of yes and no."
Had sexual relations with some but not sure if that counts, and as for girlfriends, Bai Jingjing and Cai Qin probably count too, though nothing official had been confirmed yet.
Zhao Xueying, understanding, didn’t press further and said with a laugh, "Right, I don’t know what rank you hold in the Dragon Team, of course, you can just treat this as small talk, and it’s okay if you don’t answer."
"Just a minor member of the Jiaolong Guards," Fang Yi replied, there was nothing to hide.
Zhao Xueying simply acknowledged with an "Oh" and showed no change in expression, which Fang Yi also noticed through the rearview mirror.
Fang Yi was observant; he knew that the status of both Zhao Xueying and Elder Jian was extraordinary. The Dragon Team was a mysterious organization unknown to many, yet they were aware of it, indicating their unusual status in Tianjing.
Fang Yi did not plan to probe, nor did he intend to fawn over them, treating them with a usual attitude instead.
And Zhao Xueying didn’t make much of Fang Yi’s self-deprecation.
As they passed the Thunder Nether Pavilion, Zhao Xueying pointed out the car window and said with a laugh, "Look, there’s the Thunder Nether Pavilion; almost everyone who comes to Tianjing is curious to take a look."
Fang Yi naturally saw it, and also noticed the portrait of the Great Ancestor.
After about twenty minutes, the Benzin car finally stopped in front of a restaurant.
The restaurant was designed in an ancient style, modeled after ancient architecture, with three large characters written on the plaque at the entrance: Tianjing Fragrance Pavilion.
Fang Yi had a vague sense that the style of the characters looked familiar and couldn’t help but stop to look. Zhao Xueying, who would have normally entered, came back to Fang Yi’s side and smiled, "Do you understand this calligraphy?"
Fang Yi nodded and said, "I feel it resembles the style of an elder I know."
"Who?"
"Elder Wang." Fang Yi turned to look at her and said with a smile, "I don’t know if Ying sister has heard of him."
"Of course, I have heard of him. Elder Wang’s calligraphy is said to be like dragons and snakes; how could I not know... Could it be you have met Elder Wang?"
Fang Yi smiled and said, "I have met him a few times and have been fortunate enough to receive some guidance from him."
A subtle look of astonishment emerged on Zhao Xueying’s mature and charming face.
Zhao Xueying was well aware of who Elder Wang was—a master of calligraphy and a sage in the world of martial arts. Zhao Xueying remembered that the couplet hanging in the main hall of her family home was written by Elder Wang.
Zhao Xueying was truly somewhat surprised, increasingly feeling that this man named Fang Yi was not simple. She took a deep breath, reigned in the astonishment on her face, and said, "Let’s go, let’s go inside."
Fang Yi nodded. He actually wanted to witness what was so special about this so-called Jingxiang Tower that could make someone like Wang Zhuo, a renowned calligraphy master, write for it.
Inside the restaurant, there was a serene quietness. It was the afternoon, nearly evening, yet the first floor of the restaurant was still very tranquil.
"People usually prefer the second floor. Not only can you dine there, but you can also enjoy the view, so most patrons head upstairs. The third floor is an option too, but to get there, you need a membership card from Jingxiang Tower," Zhao Xueying explained with a smile.
Just then, a woman dressed in a cheongsam came over. She obviously recognized Zhao Xueying and greeted her with a respectful yet joyful expression, "Miss Zhao, it’s been a long time, please come in."
After speaking, the cheongsam-clad woman led the way and asked, "May I know if Miss Zhao wishes to dine on the second or third floor?"
Zhao Xueying replied, "The third floor, it’s a bit quieter there."
The woman in the cheongsam nodded in agreement. After reaching the second floor, they continued up to the third.
The third floor was narrower than the second, with the building shaped like a spire—the higher the floor, the smaller the space. This very layout indicated that the status of the guests able to ascend was extraordinary.
Instead of private rooms, the third floor used screens to divide each table, effectively sectioning off individual areas. Zhao Xueying said with a smile, "Fang Yi, pick wherever you like to sit."
Fang Yi responded, "I’m easy-going. Wherever you say, Yingjie."
"You really are laid-back..." Zhao Xueying responded with a charming smile. "Then let’s sit by the window."
Fang Yi nodded and followed Zhao Xueying to a seat by the window. Turning his head to look outside, he saw a bustling commercial street not far away.
"Miss Zhao, would you like to start with your meal now, or..." the woman in the cheongsam asked respectfully.
"Let’s wait a bit," Zhao Xueying waved her hand.
"Yingjie, are we expecting others?" Fang Yi had thought he was dining alone with Zhao Xueying, but her tone suggested otherwise.
"Indeed, my niece and one of her friends are coming." As she spoke, Zhao Xueying picked up a cup of bitter buckwheat tea, took a sip, and said with a smile, "Coincidentally, my niece is also attending university in Moon City."
"I wonder which university. Perhaps I’m familiar with it," Fang Yi inquired.
"Kidd College."
"Uh..." A hunch began to form in Fang Yi’s mind, and he asked again, "Might I know your niece’s name...?"
"Jian Qing."
Fang Yi forced a smile. This was indeed a chance encounter; the woman sitting in front of him was Jian Qing’s aunt, and the Elder Jian he had helped today must be Jian Qing’s grandfather?
Seeing the wry smile on Fang Yi’s face, Zhao Xueying seemed to realize something and exclaimed in surprise, "Fang Yi, don’t tell me you know my Qingqing."
Fang Yi touched his nose and said with a smile, "... Indeed, I do know her."
Zhao Xueying was startled.
Just then, a crisp voice of a young girl rang out, "Aunt, Xiaoxiao and I have arrived."
Hearing this voice, Fang Yi knew who the young girl was without even having to turn around.
Sure enough, the next moment brought an astonished exclamation.
"Hey? Brother-in-law, what are you doing here?!"
