Chapter 313: Chapter 337: What a Fool
In the control room, Fang Yi met an old man, known as Elder Liu. His role in the Dragon Team was unclear, but judging by Li Zhengnan’s demeanor towards him, he was at least above the ranking of the Yinglong Guard.
"Elder Liu is a veteran of the Dragon Team. He fought alongside the Dragon King to conquer territories back in the day." Li Zhengnan whispered to Fang Yi, taking the opportunity to explain Elder Liu’s identity.
Returning from the mountains, Fang Yi followed Li Zhengnan here alone, as Elder Liu had requested to see him privately.
Elder Liu’s eyes sparkled with vitality. Though he was over fifty, he still appeared vigorous, only his legs... Nevertheless, even seated in a wheelchair, Elder Liu carried an imposing aura one could imagine how heroic he had been in his youth.
Elder Liu was sitting in his wheelchair with a smile, looking at the young man before him, and said, "Good, very good! Each generation produces its own talents who lead for centuries. Young man, you truly are a dragon among men."
Fang Yi replied calmly, "Thank you for your praise, Elder Liu."
Elder Liu responded, "It’s not just praise but a recognition. You indeed qualify for it."
After a moment of silence, Fang Yi asked, "May I ask, Elder Liu, does this mean... I have passed the selection?"
Elder Liu nodded and asked, "Young man, what is your name?"
"Fang Yi."
"Good, Fang Yi, do you wish to join the Jiaolong Guards, the Blood Dragon Guard, or the Yinglong Guard?"
"Jiaolong Guards." Fang Yi answered without any hesitation. This was the order given to him by Zhao Guosheng. He wasn’t particularly interested in the Blood Dragon Guard, and even the Yinglong Guard failed to excite him.
However, Li Zhengnan’s expression changed, and he looked at Fang Yi in surprise. Elder Liu too appeared slightly astonished, not understanding why Fang Yi, with his capabilities, would choose the Jiaolong Guards.
Behind Elder Liu, a man sneered disdainfully at Fang Yi, his lips curling into a mocking smile.
But Fang Yi didn’t care about these reactions. Having passed the selection, he didn’t linger any longer, for he had other matters to attend to. Thus, he bade Elder Liu farewell.
As he was leaving, Fang Yi touched Elder Liu’s paralyzed legs and said, "Elder Liu, your legs... they can be treated."
Elder Liu’s normally smiling face turned red with excitement.
"Really? Young man, you... you mustn’t deceive me..." Elder Liu was both hopeful and skeptical.
Fang Yi nodded, turned around to leave, and said, "We’ll talk when I feel up to it."
Leaving the astonished Elder Liu behind, Fang Yi exited the control room. Indeed, Fang Yi was not in the mood to treat Elder Liu’s legs; he needed time to calm his troubled spirit.
After greeting Bai Rou and Chu Qianqian, Fang Yi took his mobile phone back from Chen Feng and dialed an old man’s number.
"Old man, it’s me." Unlike usual, Fang Yi’s voice was dangerously deep.
After a moment of silence, the old man asked, "What do you want to know?"
"Where are you now? I want to meet you."
"Is it about your parents?"
"Yes."
"Your parents are indeed dead," the old man said.
Fang Yi’s complexion turned pale. Despite being mentally prepared, and hoping he was just lucky, the old man’s words struck him like lightning, and it took him a long time to recover.
"Who killed them?" Fang Yi asked.
"...Are you sure you want to know?" the old man spoke softly. "He is very strong and terrifying, and even your Fang Family is but ants compared to him."
Fang Yi fell silent for a while and then said, "A power outside the mundane world?"
"Uh-huh."
"I got it," Fang Yi said, his voice so calm that even he couldn’t believe it himself. He wondered why he wasn’t furious or shouting; there was only such tranquility.
"Old man," Fang Yi suddenly said, "I won’t let my life end easily. I won’t die until I’ve avenged my parents."
The usually rascal-like old man sighed softly and said, "Kid, don’t rush. Take your time, you have plenty of it."
Right, time.
I am still young; I still have great potential.
Even if the enemy is above the Fang Family, who has Fang Yi ever feared?
As a son, avenging my parents is a duty I must fulfill in this life.
"By the way, kid," the old man reminded, "when you become stronger, go get your Dragon Vein back. With the Dragon Vein, you can transform yourself."
"Uh-huh."
After hanging up the phone, Fang Yi pocketed his cell phone. By now, it was already dark and the stars filled the night sky.
At this moment, Fang Yi no longer appeared dejected as before; hope had rekindled in his heart, hope for revenge.
To retrieve the Dragon Vein, he needed to return to the Fang Family. Returning to the Fang Family meant opposing them, and this required Fang Yi to be strong enough.
Fang Yi now had a goal, and hope once again sparkled in his eyes.
"Fang Family, wait for me. I will be back soon!" Fang Yi looked up at the endless starry sky and murmured to himself.
...
The next day, Zhao Guosheng arrived. Stepping into the dormitory, Zhao Guosheng laughed loudly, "Good guy, I really wasn’t wrong about you, tsk tsk." He had already learned about the duel between Fang Yi and Wei Rui.
That was a Blood Dragon Guard, and Fang Yi had almost single-handedly taken down dozens of people. This year, the Dragon Team had only accepted four new members, one of whom was Fang Yi and the others included Bai Rou.
"I’ve already become a Jiaolong Guard as agreed. Where’s Cai Qin?" Fang Yi asked.
"I knew you’d say that," Zhao Guosheng chuckled, then called out to the outside of the dormitory: "Cai Qin, come in."
A tall yet delicate figure walked in. Seeing Cai Qin again stirred complex emotions in Fang Yi.
Cai Qin straightened her back and walked over to Fang Yi with her long legs, a smile appearing on her pretty face.
Her smile was like a blooming flower, bright but not flirtatious, making one feel warm at heart, at least Fang Yi felt that his efforts were not in vain.
Zhao Guosheng had slipped out at some point, leaving only the two of them in the room. They looked at each other silently, but under Fang Yi’s thick-skinned gaze, a faint blush colored Cai Qin’s cheeks.
"Why aren’t you speaking?" Cai Qin spoke first.
"I’ll speak after you speak," Fang Yi said. "How were your days in prison? Did anyone bully you? If they did, just tell me, and I’ll bully them back."
Moved, Cai Qin bit her cherry lips and asked, "Did you really join this Dragon Team selection for my sake?"
Fang Yi smiled and said, "What else?"
"You’re such a fool."
It seemed Cai Qin was annoyed, but the smile on her face grew even richer. Suddenly, she reached out her hand, wrapped it around Fang Yi’s neck, tiptoed, and pressed her vibrant red lips firmly against Fang Yi’s.
