Chapter 172: Chapter 169: Winning Over
Under Sun Xiaobo’s guidance, Fang Yi followed him into the private room. As he entered, he indeed saw several beautiful women sitting inside, chirping and chatting animatedly. They all greeted Sun Xiaobo warmly, and even Fang Yi, a stranger, was made to feel quite comfortable by their words.
However, Fang Yi noticed that there was one girl who was seated quietly, so calm that she was easy to overlook.
"Come on, ladies, let me introduce you to someone. This handsome guy is Fang Yi, my good brother. You all need to serve him well tonight. Whoever does a good job, I, Sun Xiaobo, will reward."
Sun Xiaobo declared this loudly.
At these words, the women became excited, eyeing Fang Yi with almost a pouncing stance.
In truth, Fang Yi was not bad-looking, with clear brows and handsome features, just not particularly outstanding. He did not express dissatisfaction with Sun Xiaobo treating him as a close friend.
Sun Xiaobo wanted to befriend Fang Yi, but Fang Yi also wanted to ’befriend’ him with an agenda of his own, thus he remained calm regardless of what Sun Xiaobo said.
Being quite forward, Sun Xiaobo patted Fang Yi’s shoulder and said generously, "Brother Fang, what do you think of these beauties? If none of them catch your eye, I can call in others."
The scent of their worldly experience was strong on these women, which Fang Yi actually didn’t appreciate. It wasn’t that he looked down on these hostesses who worked in KTVs; he simply didn’t much care for them.
Fang Yi’s gaze shifted to the quiet girl. Pointing at her, he said, "I’ll pick her." Saying so, Fang Yi walked over and sat down beside the girl.
"Prefers the youthful ones," thought Sun Xiaobo, assuming he had guessed Fang Yi’s taste correctly.
The girl wore a form-fitting dress, had a great figure, long black hair, and was remarkably beautiful, although she wore heavy makeup, even her eyeliner was thick. Normally, hostesses were expected to be proactive, unless they were new—but Fang Yi didn’t think she was.
"Come on, Brother Fang, how about a few drinks?" Sun Xiaobo raised his glass.
A lackey filled up a glass and handed it to Fang Yi, who smiled and raised his glass.
Then he drank it down.
The same followed.
No one sang in the room, as the music was too loud, but Sun Xiaobo was attentive enough to have the hostesses dance, letting them dance however they wanted to keep some form of entertainment going.
Sun Xiaobo sat next to Fang Yi and continued probing, "Brother Fang, you are quite the fighter, a practitioner, right?"
The conversation seemed to begin. Fang Yi smiled faintly and said, "I’ve practiced for a while. I can handle one or two ordinary people, but claiming I could fight five or six would be a dream."
Sun Xiaobo said, "Brother Fang, you’re too modest! You don’t understand, the spirit you showed earlier... how to say it, it shocked me! There’s a saying, isn’t there? One man holds the pass against ten thousand; Brother Fang, you overwhelmed everyone. I truly admire you from the bottom of my heart."
Through his words, Sun Xiaobo even mimicked a longing expression which Fang Yi noticed. Sun Xiaobo wasn’t all brawn—such flattery could have made anyone else’s head float.
"Too kind," Fang Yi responded coolly.
"And what do you do for a living, Brother Fang?" Sun Xiaobo continued probing.
"An office worker at some company."
Sun Xiaobo nodded as if it made sense; that’s why he had seen a beautiful woman earlier dressed in an OL suit, probably Fang Yi’s colleague. Then, Sun Xiaobo continually changed the subject, trying to dig deeper and understand Fang Yi’s temperament.
However, whenever it came to a crucial point, Fang Yi lightly deflected it back, making Sun Xiaobo feel like he was hitting cotton—it was ineffectual.
"Brother Fang, are you interested in maybe changing jobs?" Sun Xiaobo asked tentatively.
"Change jobs?" Fang Yi pretended not to understand.
When Sun Xiaobo saw this, he thought to himself that there was a chance and hurriedly said, "You see, Brother Fang, you’re so good at fighting, and you naturally have a commanding presence suitable for big things. Why not join the Vermilion Bird Alliance? I, Sun Xiaobo, can guarantee you with my hand on my heart that it’s better than being a small white-collar worker in a company."
Fang Yi crossed his legs and leaned back on the sofa, touching his chin, and said, "I see. Why don’t you leave me your contact information, and I’ll give you an answer in three days."
As soon as Sun Xiaobo heard this, he was immediately delighted and hurriedly had someone fetch paper and pen to write down the phone number, and he handed it to Fang Yi with both hands.
If he could recruit this man into the alliance, the Alliance Hierarch would surely reward me greatly, Sun Xiaobo thought to himself.
The Alliance Hierarch was known for his fondness for talent, and if Sun Xiaobo could find someone with natural underworld talents and fighting skills, it would definitely make the Alliance Hierarch take notice of him.
This was why Sun Xiaobo was so enthusiastic about Fang Yi; if it had been someone else, he wouldn’t have bothered at all.
After the business was done, Sun Xiaobo kept urging Fang Yi to drink with him, wanting to get thoroughly drunk together. But Fang Yi had no intention of staying any longer and began to pretend he was drunk, saying he needed to leave. Before he left, though, he took the girl who had been quietly sitting beside him.
Sun Xiaobo didn’t mind and just sleazily said, "Brother Fang, have a great time tonight."
Then, Fang Yi walked out of the private room with the girl. The previously drunk Fang Yi shook his head and instantly regained his spirit, but to the girl following him out, it was utterly astonishing.
Fang Yi noticed the surprise in the girl’s eyes and smiled, saying, "I have a high alcohol tolerance; most people can’t outdrink me."
The girl just pursed her lips and nodded slightly.
"Do you have something on your mind?" Fang Yi asked.
The girl looked surprised again and then spoke up, "How did you know?"
Fang Yi said, "Your face is so stiff, anyone could see it."
"You..." The girl hesitated.
"You’re still in college, aren’t you?" Fang Yi asked.
"No... no," the girl replied.
"Then why are you working here?" he asked further.
"I..."
Just then, a man in a suit came over and barked, "Yao Tong, go to room five. There are guests there."
Fang Yi noticed the clear fear in Yao Tong’s eyes towards the man in the suit. She apologized to Fang Yi with a bow and then walked away.
The man in the suit just gave Fang Yi a cold look, but Fang Yi was certain he saw a hint of indifference and hostile caution in the man’s eyes.
Fang Yi was stunned for a moment; he was just wanting to chat with the girl, nothing more. He laughed self-deprecatingly and went back to the private room.
"Stop!"
At the corner, the man in the suit stopped the girl called Yao Tong.
Yao Tong leaned against the wall, curling up her body, as the man in the suit quickly approached and harshly slapped her across the face.
