Chapter 144: Chapter 146, Old Memories!

Ren San was defeated, and there was no longer any possibility of a counterattack.

Fang Yi combined the Mountain Breaking technique with the smashing move of the Eight Extremes Break. As long as the attack hit, it would cause immense damage, especially since Fang Yi and Ren San were not that far apart in terms of their realms.

Human Level four and Human Level six were only two levels apart, after all. Ren San had only managed to open two more of his body’s acupoints than Fang Yi.

The majority of Ren San’s meridians were nearly shattered by the shock, making it difficult for him even to stand. His face was pale, blood was on his lips, and he was unspeakably weak.

Fang Yi pulled the arrow from Cross’s corpse and slowly walked up to Ren San.

"You’ve lost," Fang Yi said calmly.

"Yes, I’ve lost... I’ve lost..." Ren San’s words were filled with despair, and then he gritted his teeth and said, "I hate this! I’m two levels higher than you; why can’t I kill you, why!"

"Want to know why? It’s simple, because I have an invincible heart," Fang Yi said calmly.

"Invincible heart?" Confusion filled Ren San’s eyes.

Suddenly, the confusion in Ren San’s eyes solidified.

The arrow in Fang Yi’s hand pierced into Ren San’s chest. He didn’t figure out what Fang Yi meant by ’invincible heart,’ and Fang Yi wasn’t going to give him the chance.

Ren San fell straight to the ground, lifeless.

Fang Yi looked around; men from Cangyun, Cross, and Ren San – all were dead.

"I said I would kill you all, I keep my promises," Fang Yi muttered coldly, then picked up Shen Binnan from the ground and left the place.

Carrying Shen Binnan on his back, Fang Yi reached the highway. Perhaps through sheer luck, Fang Yi found a car, then drove to the city and into the hospital.

A sweet nurse saw Fang Yi and immediately exclaimed, "It’s you!"

Fang Yi was a bit stunned at first, but quickly remembered the sweet nurse’s name and smiled, "Your name is Tang Xiaoguo?"

Tang Xiaoguo nodded quickly, and then, seeing Shen Binnan on Fang Yi’s back, she said, "She needs to stop bleeding and get bandaged right away. Follow me to the medical room, I’ll bandage her."

In the medical room, Tang Xiaoguo skillfully disinfected Shen Binnan, applied medicine, and then bandaged her...

During this process, Fang Yi made a phone call to Shen Hongyang.

"The bandaging is all done," Tang Xiaoguo breathed a sigh of relief; it was her first time doing this independently.

"Thank you," Fang Yi said with a smile.

"No need for thanks. Saving lives and helping the wounded is what I should do as a nurse," Tang Xiaoguo giggled, her lips red and teeth white, eyelashes curled, with a pair of eyes as clear as gemstones.

About ten minutes later, Shen Hongyang rushed over. He came alone because Fang Yi had told him over the phone that the fewer people who knew about this, the better.

Shen Hongyang hustled into the hospital ward, saw his daughter, inquired about her condition, and he relaxed only after confirming that she was unharmed.

"Thank goodness she’s okay," Shen Hongyang was extremely relieved, with cold sweat on his face.

Shen Binnan had not yet awakened, and Fang Yi left the hospital ward with Shen Hongyang to the smoking area.

Shen Hongyang lit a cigarette, calming his excited emotions; it had been a long time since he last smoked.

"Was it Ren Tianqing’s men?" Shen Hongyang asked gravely, his expression serious.

"It was Ren San and Ren Si, from his side. They brought two assassins with them, but I killed them all..." Fang Yi recounted the whole incident to Shen Hongyang, including the matter with Luo Mingyuan and his son.

Shen Hongyang listened in silence for a long time, then spoke softly, "Ren Tianqing, do you really think I’m scared of you?" He seemed to be holding himself back.

Fang Yi also lit a cigarette, feeling somewhat weary from the night’s battles.

"Uncle Shen, I’ve always had a question: what exactly is the grudge between you and Ren Tianqing?" Fang Yi asked. It puzzled him how someone could hate another enough to spend a fortune hiring an assassin to kill their enemy’s children.

Shen Hongyang was slightly taken aback. Then, looking up with a sigh, he said, "There’s no harm in telling you—it’s a matter from twenty years ago..."

Twenty years earlier, Shen Hongyang was just eighteen or nineteen, having left rural life to work on construction sites, in kitchens, and even in factories,—he had done all sorts of hard and tiring labor.

At the age of twenty, he met a pair of unrelated siblings of opposite sexes, one of whom was Ren Tianqing. Apart from Ren Tianqing, there was another person—Ren Tianqing’s elder brother.

They hit it off well, bonding over fights and drinks until they came together, swearing brotherhood and aspiring to make something of themselves in the big city.

But how could three unskilled and ordinary individuals ever build a successful enterprise? They were just three average Joes.

Then, one day, their elder brother said he had found a business opportunity that could make them rich, potentially securing a lifetime of comfort—if only they could pull off this one job.

That job was tomb raiding!

At the time, Shen Hongyang was somewhat resistant; he’d already met Luo Sumei, Shen Binan’s mother, and besides, tomb raiding was a crime.

However, out of brotherly loyalty and youthful bravado, he agreed to go along with it.

But it wasn’t just the three of them; there was a whole group joining the venture. Upon arrival, Shen Hongyang realized they were merely there to do the heavy lifting.

The members of the group were no ordinary individuals. Shen Hongyang, being astute, could tell that this group, aside from professional tomb raiders, consisted mostly of powerful and influential people with significant backing, some even from Tianjing.

By chance, Shen Hongyang overheard them talking about finding an object of immense value and miraculous properties within the tomb.

But Shen Hongyang wasn’t tempted; he knew longing for it was pointless.

Later on, he heard their conversation, chilling to the bone.

"After we succeed, we kill these people. We can’t let any word get out," a middle-aged man said.

"Just let them die in the ancient tomb; it’s the best burial ground," a young man replied.

Their plan was already set, completely unbeknownst to them that Shen Hongyang had overheard their discussion.

To murder all witnesses? Fang Yi was startled by the revelation. He knew the group included not just a few people from the Fang Family but also more than a dozen others. Yet, they were all to be killed as casually as if it were no more remarkable than drinking water.

"I didn’t just overhear them discussing this; I also learned that among them, there were people with the surname Fang. I didn’t know who they were at first, but as I climbed higher, I understood their identity," Shen Hongyang said with a sigh, seemingly with a tinge of regret.

The Fang Family? Fang Yi’s expression went through a subtle shock. He had heard Lin Mengyan mention this family, which had a significant background, and Lin Mengyan had even suspected that she had come from the Fang Family.

Shen Hongyang did not explicitly confirm if it was that Fang Family, but he continued, with Fang Yi listening intently.

Inside the ancient tomb, those with the surname Fang showed no interest in the tomb’s contents, fixated only on that one object.

While they might not have been interested, Ren Tianqing and his group were extremely eager—they were there to strike it rich. But Shen Hongyang had no interest whatsoever; his thoughts were on how to escape with his life.

If he lost his life, the funerary objects would be not only the tomb owner’s accompaniments in death but also his, Shen Hongyang’s, own.
