God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.
Chapter 955 - 955: The Keys to Evolution (2).

As Blaze led him forward, they eventually arrived in front of a tall building located directly behind the large, still beating 'Heart'.

Standing before the door were two large Beastmen, wearing masks and dressed in the same protective overalls as Blaze.

"Oi, you two. Get him a mask and some gear to put on. We are going in."

The Beastmen exchanged glanced then nodded.

One of them stayed behind while the other ran off.

Cain turned to Blaze with raised brows,

"There's a ton of security..."

Blaze paused, then nodded,

"Yeah..." He trailed off at the end, unsure whether to continue speaking or not.

Cain frowned,

"It's okay to speak. Say what you want to say."

Blaze scratched the back of his head then sighed,

"Steve has had some... competition lately. It's best I don't speak more on this. You can hear the rest from him."

Cain frowned.

Just as he was about to urge Blaze again, the guard returned with the protective gear and mask.

Cain spent some time figuring out how to put it on before he was successful.

He grimaced as he pulled on the fabric,

"What is this material? And why is it so heavy?"

Blaze answered quickly as they stepped through the door and into the building. Immediately he stepped inside, Cain noticed something off.

"Spatial magic?"

Blaze nodded,

"There isn't a lot of space to work with so he decided to make use of spatial magic. I hate to admit it, but it is impressive."

Cain nodded in agreement,

"Indeed it is."

'At least a two hundred percent increment. Quite outstanding...'

He had always known Steve was talented in matters related to Magic but this was still rather impressive. A method to use spatial magic outside of combat or transportation.

'Perhaps, it is the same magic formula as what our inventories use. I will have to ask him later.'

"To answer your other question, the material is made using the hide of the thing we killed to make the {Poison God's Heart}."

Cain trembled,

"Hey, what exactly did you guys kill?!"

Blaze shrugged,

"It was a {Deathmarsh Land Drake}. A rather terrifying thing, I'll tell you. Its hide is highly resistant to flames and frost. Its blood was extreme toxic and poisonous, so its hide is also resistant to poisons and corrosives."

Cain raised a brow,

"Then how did you defeat it?"

"Bashed its skull until its brain turned liquid. Then cut its heart out through its softer belly. Honestly, that was quite the experience..."

Staring at Blaze looking fondly on such horror, Cain couldn't help but chuckle bitterly.

It seemed he wasn't the only one that had lost his mind.

The inside of the building was like a dark maze of rooms.

As they walked through the rather narrow hallway, Cain glanced into one such rooms.

Inside it were a bunch of plants, herbs and what seemed to be some grass stored or simply growing on dirt beds.

Cain raised a brow,

'That isn't suspicious at all. What the hell?'

Just when he was feeling a bit underwhelmed, he turned to his other side and glanced into another room.

There was a bit of light coming from this room with what seemed to be an operating table.

On this operating table was an open carcass of a creature that looked like a mix between a doe and a ferocious dog.

It was not very large too. Perhaps only as tall as a human when standing on all fours.

Compared to several other monstrositiss out there, this one seemed rather small and docile.

Cain shook his head,

'Of course it seems docile. It's dead.'

The tongue of the creature was rolled out and its darker eyes were black and staring off into the distance. There was no thought mor soul behind them.

Its chest had been cut open, and itself rib cages spread like wings to reveal all of its organs.

In the room, Cain caught glimpses of several masked, garbed men cutting and poking at the organs that were being harvested from within the strange creature.

It put him off quite a bit.

"Those are the Operators." Blaze muttered as they continued on.

Cain was silent for a moment,

"Those guys..."

Blaze nodded,

"Yeah. They aren't humans. They are summons. Humanoid summons."

Cain pinched the bridge of his nose.

"That guy certainly has a lot of explaining to do."

Blaze chuckled strangely,

"Indeed, he does."

Cain sighed.

They continued walking, taking several bends and reaching several forks.

If not for his near perfect memory, Cain couldn't help but think about how lost he would be if he was to find his way back alone.

"We're here." Blaze said.

Cain looked up.

They had arrived in front of another unassuming room.

However, this was the only room that had a door.

Cain raised a brow. He could sense spatial magic coming from behind that door.

Blaze turned around,

"This is where we part, Cain."

Cain smiled and nodded,

"It was good seeing you, Blaze. How are the others doing?"

Blaze shrugged as he walked past him,

"They seem to be doing fine. None of them are dead so far, although I just might be on my way down." Blaze said as he sighed tiredly.

Cain chuckled,

"Don't push yourself."

Blaze nodded as he waved then disappeared behind a bend.

Cain was silently still for a few minutes.

Then he turned around to face the door.

Without wasting any more time, he twisted the knob and pushed the door open...

He expected to see many things on the other side of the door...

A terrifying laboratory filled with pipes, tubes and cats filled with creatures suspended in unknown fluids.

Or a large conservatory filled with countless gardens of Urbus's mutant plant life...

Or maybe even a stinking den filled with cages of mutant creatures stacked up to the ceiling.

Shockingly enough, it was none of them...

"Eh? Look who decided to show up after... how long has it been, three months?"

Cain turned his head.

Seated in front of a table, dressed in a loose fitted robe, holding a steaming cup of tea between his fingers, was Steve.

Cain raised a brow and glanced down at the second steaming cup set on the low table in front of him.

Cain sighed and walked forward.

Pulling the chair prepared for him back, he plopped down and stared straight at Steve's smug looking face.

"Start from the beginning. Don't skip a single detail." He said, his voice sounding a bit menacing.

"Yes, sir!" Steve straightened up and saluted.
