Chapter 86: Chapter 62: Thief

The rain fell harder.

Originally just a light drizzle, a thin curtain of rain, it gradually became denser.

From the depths of the gathering leaden clouds, one could faintly hear the brewing low thunder.

Xia Nan and the half orc walked on their way back to the inn.

They didn’t carry any rain gear, so they often walked close to the eaves of the roadside buildings.

And if there was no shelter, they were not in any particular hurry, merely walking casually.

For Xia Nan, since he was already soaked, and his armor equipment would be carefully maintained before bedtime, getting a bit more or less wet made no difference.

With his 8 points of Constitution, as long as he didn’t get hit by some "Disease Curse" or "Weakness Aura" spell, getting a little wet wouldn’t cause him to catch a cold or get sick.

As for Alton...

Xia Nan just hoped the other wouldn’t splash him with muddy water while stepping in puddles.

"By the way."

Watching the half orc enjoying the rain, feeling the cool raindrops.

Xia Nan couldn’t help but recall what the other had said at the tavern entrance earlier.

"You mentioned earlier, the sister of the Goddess of fortune is..."

Just as he was saying this, Alton suddenly turned around, putting a finger to his lips.

"Shush."

"Don’t mention it too much, she’s not as easygoing as the Lady."

Hearing this, Xia Nan immediately felt a chill run through him, and he shut his mouth tight.

On this vast continent where ordinary people might never see the edge in their lifetime, there were a great many divine entities from different Divine, of various races.

They might have significant differences in the strength of their Divine Powers, and their domains might differ, but they all shared one thing in common—

A lifespan so long that it almost spanned the history of an entire race.

In such circumstances, the relationships among divine entities, over their immeasurably lengthy lifespan, became incredibly complex and chaotic.

Even the most senior historians would find it difficult to clearly discern what events an ancient Divine had experienced and which divine beings they had ties with.

Therefore, concerning the specific relationships between divine entities, only the most superficial and insignificant information is circulated on the continent.

For example, the famous "Sisters of Fate":

Lady of Smile who governs fortune [Taimola],

and her sister—

the symbol of misfortune "Catastrophe Girl" [Benshaba].

Unlike her sister’s calm and easygoing nature, even slightly childish, Catastrophe Girl is known among people for her stinginess and peevishness.

So much so that in most formal occasions in the Sevia Kingdom, when the speaker needs to express gratitude to certain existences, they will often include this capricious lady.

Otherwise, she would feel disrespected and wouldn’t hesitate to spread misfortune to everyone present.

Just wanting to take this opportunity to further understand some knowledge about this world’s divine beings,

Xia Nan naturally didn’t want to get involved with this ill-tempered entity, wielding the power of destiny.

"Hahaha, no need to be so serious."

Seeing his solemn expression, the half orc burst into laughter, reassuringly said.

"With her personality, there are so many people praying every day that even the most devout fanatics might not get a response."

"You didn’t even mention the divine name, don’t worry, you won’t be noticed."

"Besides, isn’t there me!"

Saying that, Alton tossed the lucky coin in his hand with a look of pride.

Hearing this, Xia Nan breathed a slight sigh of relief inwardly, though he couldn’t help feeling some unease.

Based on what he knew about the relationship between Taimola and Benshaba, if he accidentally offended them, along with this follower of the Goddess of fortune beside him...

The divine punishment would probably be harshly doubled.

Swoosh—

Out of the corner of his eye, a flash of silver light flickered.

Xia Nan couldn’t help but look up, only to see a pure silver robin flitting through the dense rain curtain beneath the dark clouds, winging its way through.

Just when he found it strange, he suddenly heard rapid footsteps ahead.

A small figure, seemingly avoiding the rain, bent low and hurried past.

The facial features were obscured under a hood, revealing only two thin, weak little legs beneath an ill-fitting rough cloth coat.

Thinking it was just a passerby avoiding the rain, Xia Nan instinctively stepped aside to clear the way.

Unexpectedly, the small figure, seeming oblivious to the two people in front, directly bumped into Alton, who was walking ahead.

The half orc was short in stature, but his race endowed him with extraordinary agility.

With just a slight turn of his body, he easily deflected the impact from the front.

Even good-naturedly, he lifted his arm to prevent the other from falling.

Obviously not expecting Alton could so effortlessly diffuse the force of their collision.

Stumbling backward from the impact and leaning on Alton, the small figure’s weight suddenly shifted, as if about to fall the next second.

And thus, revealing the other’s young, gaunt face, and...

A hand reaching for Alton’s shrunken money pouch at his waist.

"A pickpocket?"

Xia Nan realized at once, his right hand moving to grip the hilt of the Beheading Longsword behind him.

Alton reacted even quicker, noticing the other wasn’t a mere passerby but a pickpocket targeting him.

The hand that was supporting switched to gripping the other’s arm, his right leg stepped forward to trip, simultaneously exerting force.

"Bang!"

The pickpocket in a stalemate with the half orc was immediately pushed to the ground.

Mud and water splashed everywhere.

"Goodness, stealing right in front of me."

Xia Nan hefted the two long swords on his back, looking somewhat puzzled.

Leaving out the half orc, just traveling with him, the way he dressed obviously marked him as an adventurer.

The other didn’t seem to possess any Professional Combat Skills in the "Wanderer" direction.

Did they really have such a hard head?

Or was there another plot?

Unsheathing his sword, he stepped forward.

The pickpocket’s actions were unexpected; after being easily tripped by the half orc, he didn’t have any thoughts of resistance after being exposed.

He just rolled forcefully on the ground, letting the force pull him, his rough cloth coat was covered in mud and water.

Then, using both hands and feet, he turned and fled pitifully.

Xia Nan watched the fleeing figure, determined not to let this pickpocket escape so easily.

He took a few steps forward but suddenly stopped.

It wasn’t because he noticed anything suspicious and gave up the pursuit.

But because a sturdy, powerful hand suddenly reached out from the street corner.

With just one motion, it grasped the pickpocket’s collar as if cast in iron.

Feet dangling, the thin thief was lifted like a chick.

A blond man wearing a sheriff’s uniform appeared before them.

"Joey, what have you done again!?"

A low voice suppressed with anger came through the rain.
