Chapter 65 - 65 47 Dealing with the Spoils of War Two in One
65: Chapter 47: Dealing with the Spoils of War (Two in One) 65: Chapter 47: Dealing with the Spoils of War (Two in One) The lodging conditions at the inn, though far from the starred hotels of my past life, are undoubtedly much better than camping out in the wild.
At least you don’t have to worry about being woken up halfway through by your companion on night watch, and then groggily fighting off a surprise attack from a demon with your hair a mess.
Xia Nan had a long-awaited good night’s sleep.
But he didn’t oversleep.
The next morning, at dawn, he forcibly dragged himself out of bed through sheer willpower.
As an adventurer, the first day after completing a task is often the busiest.
Submitting tasks, sorting out loot, repairing equipment…
Countless urgent tasks lay stacked in Xia Nan’s mind like a checklist.
Even if it takes him the whole day to deal with these matters, he does so willingly.
Because only by doing so, after a hard day’s work, can he carry his bulging wallet and enjoy his hard-earned “vacation” without any burdens.
A quick wash, then he left the tavern.
Xia Nan, carrying a somewhat heavy backpack, arrived at the River Valley Town adventurer association.
It was still that uniquely “Mist Forest” styled treehouse building, and it was still busy as ever.
Even though he had gotten up as early as possible, when he stepped onto the dark brown oak floor at the entrance of the association, his field of vision was already filled with adventurers of different shapes and sizes.
Some, like him, carried bulging backpacks, looking like they had come early to submit a task; others were gathered in threes and fives under the task board, occasionally leaning close to whisper amongst themselves.
Xia Nan even saw an extremely burly half orc, over two meters tall, leisurely swaying in from the street, carrying a hideously looking demon’s head.
His dust-covered body bore visible signs of battle, and the neck of the head in his hand was still dripping blood.
He must have just finished an intense fight.
The thick stench of blood mixed with the odor of days unbathed in the wild, caused passing adventurers to wrinkle their noses and dodge away.
But as Xia Nan observed, faced with the disdainful reactions of those around him, the half orc showed no signs of anger.
On the contrary, he wore an expression of complete satisfaction and enjoyment.
That composed demeanor, much like a triumphant fisherman returning with a big catch, eager to take the long way home just to show off to the whole town.
Xia Nan even suspected, if someone approached now to ask the half orc the names of the demons or details of the battle, whether his two protruding tusks would laugh their way into his stomach.
Ultimately, the half orc didn’t enter the adventurer association.
He was just at the entrance when the staff, alerted by the scene, “politely” asked him to clean up and come back again.
Yet he still displayed a satisfied expression, clearly having achieved his goal.
Drawing back his gaze.
Xia Nan felt that his mood, oppressed by staying in the Mist Forest for so long, was relieved by this comical scene before him.
“Ding Ling.”
The crisp sound of the bell brought him back to reality, as he saw the adventurer who had been in front of him leave the counter with their money pouch.
He composed himself and stepped up to the counter.
It was still the same short-haired girl with a drowsy look, head lowered, as if she might fall asleep the next second.
“Task Number?” came the lethargic sound from her mouth.
“387H, the Firefly Garlic Vine collection task.”
Silence.
The girl didn’t respond immediately, just manipulated something below the counter with her hands.
Then she slowly spoke again:
“Number: 387H, task overdue, the poster didn’t choose to extend the bounty, it has been withdrawn.”
As expected…
Though Xia Nan was mentally prepared, he still felt a tinge of disappointment.
Normally, three days would be more than enough time for him to make a round trip from River Valley Town to the outskirts of the Mist Forest.
The task time was quite ample.
But who could have anticipated that he would encounter a half elf squad on his adventure and accept their request to delve further into the forest?
Although he earned 100 gold and numerous spoils as a result, the initial task to collect Firefly Garlic Vine was now overdue.
Last night, he even hurried back to the town overnight, hoping to submit the task quickly, but the association was already closed when he arrived, so he had to wait until now.
“Understood, thank you.”
