Chapter 82: Military Forces of the Northern Plateau
Chapter 82: Chapter 82: Military Forces of the Northern Plateau
"Finally, we’ve left the forest, and it seems there is a plateau or mountain range ahead."
Cosette looked ahead, away from the forest where they had been clearing for some time. Although Skeletons don’t get irritable, he felt somewhat discontented because he was on a mission entrusted by his Lord.
"It looks like a plateau, we must find a way up."
A female voice spoke up beside him, but it also belonged to a Skeleton Cavalry.
"Good, then Dorola, you go to the right, and I’ll go to the left to scout this place."
The female Skeleton Cavalry named Dorola had become a Hero during the battles over this period, awakening automatically without returning to the Hero Training Tower to breakthrough.
Such Hero Units, like Cosette, had extremely high potential.
During this time, Dorola’s strength had gradually increased, reaching the bronze level. Though still weaker than Cosette, catching up was only a matter of time.
After all, the Skeleton Cavalry’s profession could only go as high as the bronze level; they couldn’t advance further.
"Understood, Commander," Dorola meticulously followed the orders.
"Work hard. Before we return, it’s best if you reach your peak and then use the Hero Test Tower to upgrade your profession. I might have a chance to reach the Silver Level when I return," Cosette expressed eagerly.
Only stronger power could better serve their Lord.
As these Skeletons were searching for a route forward, they failed to notice someone watching them from the plateau above. Although the distance was great and initially unclear, the sheer number of Skeletons was too great to miss.
When such a large number of Skeletons emerged, even though the plateau was one or two thousand meters high from this side, one could still see a swath of white figures moving below.
"Look, what’s that over there? It seems like there are a lot of things."
"What things? Liuzi, are you sure?"
"How could I be mistaken? Don’t believe me, come up and see."
The person quickly climbed the Observation Tower and looked down. At that glance, he was startled.
"What is this? No good, why are there so many Skeletons. You watch here; I’ll report to the commander." The person took a telescope from his side, finally discerning what those things were in the distance after viewing through it.
"Go quickly and come back quickly; I can’t handle this alone."
The person responded, grabbed a horse nearby, and rode out fast.
These people were not ordinary, all were military personnel. When they were devoured, they were in training. When they arrived, a huge chunk of land was filled with their people.
A large number had come in one go, and by putting up a strong fight and leveraging their numbers, they had managed to secure a foothold here.
Originally, there was a cliff behind them, a natural barrier difficult for ordinary creatures to cross, with only one path leading downwards; defending it was no problem.
But with such a multitude of enemies, encountering Undead was problematic as they fear no death and could overwhelm the mountain path.
"Report, a large number of Undead discovered in the rear, they appear to be looking for a way up the mountain."
Ahead, a man, who appeared fifty but was spirited, was looking at the sand table before him. This sand table was the result of continuous refinement over this period.
Still, there was a larger area they were unable to perfect, and they now faced a dangerous situation.
"What’s the situation? Are you sure there’s a large number of Undead Creatures?"
The commander raised his head, looking gravely at him. Undead, unlike other creatures, fear no death; a frenzied charge up the mountain path might be unstoppable.
"I’m not mistaken, they are definitely Undead; all I’ve seen so far are Skeletons."
Before setting out, this guy had brought a telescope, the best scout member. The complex artifacts and firearms were now useless, but the telescope still functioned well.
"What kind of troops are they?" another staff officer immediately inquired.
"The ones leading are Skeleton Cavalry, mostly followed by Skull Soldiers and some Skeleton Shooters. There are also some special types of Skull Soldiers, along with some large Skeletons resembling elephants."
The staff officer quickly sketched a rough image in front of him.
"Is it this kind of thing?"
"Yes, exactly like what I saw."
"This is the Bronze-level Skeleton War Elephant; according to our intelligence, only Fang Jie has these in our region. Could this troop have been sent by him?" The staff officer looked perplexed.
If Fang Jie heard this, he would be utterly astounded. He had not expected that a troop type he hadn’t publicly disclosed would be known to others; their intelligence work was indeed impressive.
"Fang Jie, truly a talented individual. I wonder if there’s a possibility of cooperation."
"Why don’t we communicate with them? If we can cooperate, it would give us more assurance."
Suddenly, the commander said, "How many did they send? If it’s few, let’s take them down first to show our strength. Without sufficient power, how can we negotiate?"
"I don’t know precisely, but from what I saw earlier, it might be tens of thousands."
Tens of thousands, that’s hardly a small number. They had heavily developed several territories, but their troop strength was certainly not minimal. Currently, they had the capability to produce Black Iron-level troops.
"Scout it out quickly, and simultaneously increase the defense level at Three-bend Bridge."
"Yes." Someone immediately saluted and then swiftly left the room.
"Don’t worry, Commander, although Fang Jie is formidable, he is just one person, definitely not our match. If it weren’t for our lack of external trade, we wouldn’t be underestimated."
The commander sighed. It was a common sentiment within the military that they were the strongest in the region.
They had a significant advantage right from the start, unlike others who were hiding at home afraid to venture out; they had already commenced proactive attacks and explorations.
They were even the first to upgrade their Lord’s Cottage in this region.
Regarding Fang Jie, considered the strongest in this region even now with his Bronze-level Combat Power, they still held him in low regard, believing his strength was far inferior to their own.
