Chapter 565: Chapter 565: The Strategy of the Black Flame Empire
"Oh, I haven’t congratulated you yet, congratulations on reaching Bronze level."
Fang Jie suddenly remembered that Qin Lan had finally broken through to the Bronze level.
"It’s still thanks to Bloodline Purification that I did it, but I’m still not as powerful as you, you’ve grown stronger," Qin Lan said, his face reddening, a realization he came to by feeling his own body.
Although his strength had improved, he felt even more exhausted than the day before.
He wasn’t sure if Fang Jie had been holding back before, or if his strength had increased this time, or maybe it was a bit of both.
"I’m different, This time, I went to absorb the World Origin, which speeds up strength enhancement incredibly fast when absorbed."
That was true. Although Fang Jie mentioned there was no danger, no one knew if it was always the case. Different worlds naturally come with different levels of danger.
But a single successful absorption did indeed result in rapid improvement.
On the other hand, the speed of Qin Lan’s enhancement was rather slow. He still needed the help of Bloodline Purification to improve, whereas the two little foxes had already reached the Bronze level a while ago.
They were Priests and didn’t have a Profession as suitable as Qin Lan’s, nor did they possess Talent as high as his.
The reason why Qin Lan’s progress was slow was simply that he had too much to do. With work consuming all his time, where could he find the time for Cultivation? His subordinates were in the same boat.
Now, among those who had come from Earth, a dichotomy in thought was emerging.
Some believed that gaining power and authority was the key to a better life, while others thought they should abandon these pursuits and devote themselves to Cultivation. Only by enhancing their strengths could they eventually live the life they desired.
The behaviors of these two groups were also becoming polarized.
It wasn’t clear who was right and who was wrong—it would all depend on their future achievements.
"Oh yes, the Black Flame Empire seems to be plotting against you lately."
Fang Jie was taken aback, "What have they done? And how do you know about it if it’s a plot against me? Has our Territory’s intelligence system gotten that strong?" Fang Jie was eager to know the state of their intelligence.
Their current intelligence organization actually wasn’t very impressive. Fang Jie had placed his hopes on the Shadow Elves.
Unfortunately, the Shadow Elves’ growth and reproduction took time. A full commitment to propagation had caused their racial strength to decline. Although they were trying to recover, it wouldn’t be a quick fix.
Currently, the strongest Shadow Elves had just made it to the Silver level, but there were only a few of them.
What they needed now was stability. If they were to split again, they might not be able to maintain their current potential.
To raise them back to a large-scale Gold level, especially on a massive scale, it would probably take no less than five years. Their current intelligence organization was simply too poor.
"Do we even need to scout? Whatever they plan to do is out in the open."
"In the open? What kind of plot is that?"
"Of course, it’s a honey trap," Qin Lan said with an annoyed glance at Fang Jie. "Let’s get one thing straight—if you want to find women, I won’t object, but elves from the Black Flame Empire are absolutely off-limits. They’re up to no good."
Fang Jie nodded at first, then suddenly realized, "What do you mean you don’t object? I already have enough with you guys."
"I’d like to believe you, but I know how men are. Anyway, what I said is true. Whether it’s an enemy or something else, these things are unavoidable, but you must have my consent first."
Fang Jie knew Qin Lan had thought long and hard before making this decision.
Such a decision, for someone like her who came from Earth and was once a prized lady, was a great sacrifice. Fang Jie felt a softness in his heart and hugged Qin Lan close, "Don’t worry. From now on, you’ll be the one calling the shots at home."
Qin Lan smiled. Although she knew a man’s words weren’t always reliable, she liked hearing them nonetheless.
"Oh, what do the elves they’ve brought over look like?"
Knowing the Black Flame Empire had ulterior motives, Fang Jie was still very curious. An empire employing honey traps against him meant the person sent must be exceptional.
Qin Lan rolled her eyes: "She came with Emily, who is now our permanent ambassador. That woman is a countess from the Black Flame Empire, but she doesn’t seem to have accomplished much."
"So, you’re saying she’s good-looking and that’s about it?"
Fang Jie looked at the portrait Qin Lan had taken out. It was created with Spells and was almost indistinguishable from a photograph. Plus, it could be rotated to display a three-dimensional image.
It had to be said that Countess Misile was a rare beauty, even among the elves. She was certainly top-tier. Even Fang Jie couldn’t help but be captivated by her appearance.
No wonder they felt so confident. Most people would certainly fall for her.
"How about it, does she look good? How does she compare to me?"
"How could she compare to you? You are much more beautiful," Fang Jie said sincerely.
Even though he was being slightly dishonest, it clearly improved Qin Lan’s mood. To be fair, Countess Misile’s appearance was not inferior to Qin Lan’s, perhaps even a cut above, especially since Qin Lan’s looks had greatly improved after her Bloodline Purification.
But Misile, handpicked from within the Black Flame Empire, truly had a stunning face.
Still, in terms of aura, she fell short compared to Qin Lan. The temperament of someone who wields great power isn’t something just anyone can possess.
"Don’t underestimate her, I’ve met her and she isn’t simple. She might not stand out much in the Black Flame Empire, but beautiful women always make people overlook other abilities."
Qin Lan knew this all too well. Back when she was still on Earth, hadn’t it been the same for her?
Even people at home focused on her appearance, ignoring her abilities, as if her successes were tied to her looks or family, rather than her own skills.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have fallen out with her family before coming to this world. Up to now, she hasn’t found the slightest news about her family.
"Alright, let’s stop talking about these annoying matters. I’ve got something great to show you."
"What is it? Just to be clear, don’t mess around; I’m still not over it," Qin Lan was worried.
"What do you take me for? This is something I brought back from the otherworld, it’s the core of a Mountain and River Spirit, and it’s still usable," Fang Jie replied, slightly exasperated. What did Qin Lan think of him?
As if he was some sort of lecher who couldn’t focus on serious matters? Fine, he’d deal with her later tonight.
