Chapter 504: Chapter 504: This is What They Call "Though Distant, Must Be Punished
When the pirates came out, they found themselves surrounded.
"They must be crazy. It’s not worth it for them to use such a large-scale attack on our small force."
Indeed, they were a small force of just over a hundred people, with only three at the silver power tier, the strongest among them. Had they not fled quickly, their organization might have completely collapsed.
They had been hidden in a reef cluster that could hardly even be considered a small island.
But now, what did they see? Warships everywhere. And these were no ordinary ships, but heavy warships capable of contending with gold level power tiers, at least a hundred of them.
They had surrounded their location, with many more unable to enter due to space constraints.
A barrage of gunfire was now aimed at their reef; one more attack and the reef itself would crumble to pieces.
If they were to be bombarded again, none of them would likely survive.
"Damn it, surrender quickly, we surrender," the pirates shouted. However, the ships didn’t care one bit and delivered another round, turning the pirates into cannon fodder.
"Quick, go search the area, take anything of value, and move to the next target; we still have over thirty targets to hit today," the captain ordered his crew as he watched the pirate group that had just been eliminated.
This had become routine for them.
Their looting was even more efficient and swift than the pirates themselves.
This was the retaliation force from Kapala Island, and it wasn’t just one fleet, but several.
"The next target is a small island, rather remote," a strategist at the captain’s side mentioned. Because of different rules of engagement, captains usually had strategists with them, and not just one or two.
"What kind of island and which camp controls it?"
"Gray Dwarves, skilled in crafting tools, and their ships are some of the rare iron ones." Native shipbuilding typically involved wood, and few could craft iron vessels.
It wasn’t for the lack of understanding that iron ships were superior, but rather the lack of smelting and manufacturing technology.
"Since they’re not humans, level everything. These dwarves don’t have a habit of hoarding treasures; at most, they’ll have ore and metal which won’t be destroyed by cannon fire."
Suddenly, someone reported, "Captain, we’re being intercepted ahead, and they’re refusing to let us pass."
"Who dares to intercept us?" the captain asked, surprised.
"Unclear, but judging from their flags, it appears to be a convoy."
"Inform the convoy ahead, move aside immediately, or we’ll attack."
Before long, the messenger returned, "They claim they are the Horra family’s convoy, resting here, and they’ve requested us to leave the area, warning that if we don’t, the Horra family will consider us enemies."
The Horra family was indeed a powerful clan.
While they might not match the wealth of the Keli family, they were openly stronger. The family was, indeed, a top family.
But now, their intercepting us is probably to protect those Gray Dwarves.
"I recall the Horra family has a major enterprise in ironware; it seems these dwarves belong to them. But regardless, anyone who dares to block our way is an enemy."
With a wave of his hand, the captain ordered, "Notify them, five minutes to retreat, or we attack."
With the attack formation ready on our side, finally, people from the Horra family started to panic.
"What do we do? They seem intent on attacking us."
"Don’t be scared, we’re of the Horra family, they wouldn’t dare. Pass the word, drop the anchors, I’d like to see if they’re bold enough to attack us." Their family had always been powerful.
Even other top families had to show them respect since their family represented force. As long as they wanted to avoid trouble, they had to communicate properly.
Although the other party had just occupied a large island, it was simply not worth offending a top family for such a trivial matter.
And they could use this opportunity to reclaim the Gray Dwarves completely.
However, what they didn’t expect was that, when the five minutes were up, the opposing captain actually gave the order to attack. Cannons glittered, and fireball spells began to gather, all clear signs of impending attack.
"It’s impossible. They can’t attack, they wouldn’t dare."
"Quick, get out of here. Their attack is coming!"
"We can’t; we’re unable to retract the anchors. There’s no way to leave." They regretted casting anchors. Without those anchors, they might have had a chance to escape.
The next moment, cannon fire came their way. Hitting an immobile target was all too easy.
The first salvo shattered the majority of the ships on the spot, and the rest were left leaking.
The power of the gold level fireball attack was no small matter. Even if they wanted to retaliate, they couldn’t; their merchant ships simply weren’t equipped for combat.
"How dare they, how dare they!"
The opposing captain, bloodied on deck, watched in despair as the second volley was launched.
The next wave of attacks obliterated them, leaving nothing but debris on the sea.
"Advance, surround the Gray Dwarf island, and then exterminate them. Send the message back, we need to have a proper conversation with the Horra family to see if they want an all-out war."
As a Hero Unit, the captain only had to obey orders; the rest was not his concern.
These individuals, created not long ago and highly loyal due to various factors, found it laughable for a mere family to try and stop them. Did they think they held that much sway?
Before long, their ships surrounded the island and the incessant bombardment began.
Since it was a small island, the bombardment covered the entire area; the Gray Dwarves were wiped out without even a chance to encounter the enemy.
Leaving behind ruins as proof that the dwarves had once existed.
As long as the island wasn’t occupied, the rules weren’t broken. The message "Attack Kapala Island, no matter how remote, and you will be punished" spread with this action, chilling the hearts of all factions.
Never had a force dared to undertake such a massive simultaneous attack on so many factions. Even though those factions were small, the implications were too significant – this move had offended too many, in an unexpectedly bold manner.
