Chapter 323: Finally Encountered
Chapter 323: Chapter 323: Finally Encountered
As days went by, on the surface, everything calmed down.
"Hmph, I think they don’t have any real skills; they’ve just been lucky. We’ve been here for such a long time and they haven’t made a move," some nobles said as they looked in the direction of Earl Jia Siwei, filled with jealousy and disgust.
"They probably can’t even fathom our thoughts. After all, they are of merchant stock and probably think we would protect them here," a group of nobles laughed loudly without any intention of concealing their mockery.
They even wanted Earl Jia Siwei to see and know their thoughts.
In their eyes, the genius idea of Martha Earl was something they couldn’t unravel, and neither could Jia Siwei.
Indeed, because Jia Siwei had been inactive for so long, they couldn’t help but think this way. Even Martha Earl, who had been vigilant at first, no longer cared.
If they didn’t figure out a way before, how could they possibly have a way now? A merchant is just a merchant, and they had overestimated them before.
Indeed, these guys were very adept at making money, but utterly useless at warfare. There were also quite a few people from Earth within the Kingdom, each one very confident and arrogant, but in reality, their abilities were just so-so.
Without territories, they couldn’t do most things right.
Thinking of their territory management skills, Martha Earl couldn’t help but feel some jealousy.
His family hadn’t gained a territory for such a long time, yet those guys arrived and immediately received land. He wondered why the heavens favored this race so much, leaving him without such luck.
On the fourth day after their encampment, finally, an army slowly approached from the opposite side.
During that period, conflicts at the border constantly erupted and escalated.
The people’s cries were loud, whether it was to reclaim their territories or to repel foreign enemies. In short, the propaganda from both sides was similar: the other side was wrong, a Demon, an enemy.
After this period of brewing, combined with the animosity left by the winter war, everyone was stirred up.
War seemed to be on the verge of an outbreak, with some regional forces already on the move, ready to act at any moment.
In the North, battles had been fiercer, hence the outbreak progressed fastest. The army of the Blue Sand Kingdom was slowly moving this way and then gradually slowed down.
They had also scouted ahead and detected that the initial military force seemed to be exceeding expectations.
"Protect the Commander!" Suddenly, the guards around started shouting loudly.
Guluo raised his head and saw a Mechanical Flying Eagle swiftly fly over, descending in front of the troops. A man disembarked and, with elegance, offered a salute, indicating a willingness to negotiate.
"Let him come over," Guluo pushed the guard aside, sensing that the man before him was not mighty in strength.
After all, he was a silver-level Knight, while the man before him was only at the Black Iron level, and so was the Mechanical Flying Eagle. The disparity was too great, and no strategy could bridge it.
"Greetings, Commander, I am clerk Kerla, on behalf of Earl Jia Siwei," the man said.
"I am Commander Guluo of this army. What do you wish to discuss?"
The other party represented an Earl; while they looked down on him, he was once set as a paragon by them. Guluo didn’t dare underestimate him and knew the necessary etiquette had to be observed.
It was just the right time for the army to stop advancing and rest everyone a little, to avoid excessive fatigue.
"My lord sends his regards; we have no intention to wage war against your side. For this war, we aim to remain neutral."
"Hmph, neutral? After seizing such vast land last time, you now wish to be neutral?"
Kerla, smiling, said, "Previously, it was merely the Kingdom’s desire to find a representative, and we just happened to coincide with that. But as you know, our Count’s origins lead to significant rejection within our own country."
"So in this war, we merely desire to protect our territory, not seeking glory nor willing to suffer losses."
"Why should I believe you just because you don’t wish to fight?"
Guluo had wanted to press the attack but then thought, if the other side really retreated, his own pressure would lessen significantly. If that were the case, wouldn’t his forces be stronger than the enemy’s?
Though somewhat incredulous, he decided to listen to what they had to say.
Kerla directly stated, "We can demonstrate our sincerity. Our territory has three lines of defense; we will abandon the first line to you. You can dismantle the walls, and we will not interfere."
Severing an arm of their own? Although nobles often committed foolish acts, such actions were rare, especially during significant wars. Was this an invitation for their own swift demise?
"We truly only want to preserve our lands. We trust your side would not care for such a remote area. If you insist on fighting, it is you who will bear the loss, as we can retreat at any time," Kerla pointed to the rear, "If we wish, we can align with the Alchemy Kingdom behind us, whose strength is no less than that of the Blue Sand Kingdom. By that time, you would also lose a layer of defense."
Introducing a new Kingdom indeed wasn’t a trivial matter.
Although the area used to be a forest and a mountain region, it wasn’t impossible for an Alchemy Kingdom to emerge in that place.
In this world, despite the inoperability of technological powers, Alchemy Puppets were still usable.
With that thought, Guluo started pondering. After a long while, he said, "I must see your sincerity, then I will test it myself. If what you say is true, I can decide to spare you."
Kerla nodded with a smile, "Then we await your arrival."
He had finally completed his task. When Earl Jia Siwei first found him, Kerla was very dissatisfied.
But Jia Siwei gave him so much that if he succeeded this time, upon his return, he would earn the privilege to lead an army independently, and his name would be directly reported to the Great Lord.
Although Kerla was a native, it was for this reason that he held the Great Lord in even greater awe.
If he could gain recognition, reaching the level of someone like Jia Siwei in the future wasn’t out of the question. In the eyes of these natives, the people from Earth were no better than them once they lost their territories.
They may know some strange things, but they are not as familiar with the land as he was.
Moreover, speaking of peculiar knowledge, which world doesn’t have its own set of tricks? Everyone has a few unique skills up their sleeve.
