Global Lord: My Undead Can Undergo Fission -
Chapter 298: That is a Mature System
Chapter 298: Chapter 298: That is a Mature System
The battle outside the mountainous region had ended in a short amount of time. Although brief, the battle was exceedingly brutal. Of the thousand Skeleton Flying Dragons I had, nearly a hundred had been lost.
Although the ground fortresses were few in number, their Combat Power was fundamentally strong and their firepower even more terrifying.
Even because they were thicker, my Death Energy took some time to completely penetrate them. That’s why they could hold out for so long; if not for this, my losses would not have been so great.
But if I had used other combat forces, the effect would probably have been even worse.
Without Death Energy that could directly penetrate the enemy’s defenses, other attack modes would definitely be slower. Even if the Undead do not fear death, the killing efficiency of technology is well recognized.
"Damn it, they died so quickly, the enemy’s strength is really too strong."
"This battle has cost the Empire a great deal of wealth. Someone must be held accountable for this."
A group of goblins looked at the Chief, as he was the highest authority. For such a major incident, if the Chief wasn’t held responsible, then no one else could bear it. However, even the Chief had no plans for compensation now.
The country was his own; to whom would he compensate when most of the Combat Power was his own?
"This army I control 58% of the shares; my loss is the greatest. If anyone should be compensated, it should be me compensating myself." The Chief stared intently at these people, each concerned with their own position and benefits.
"Gentlemen, now is not the time to discuss these matters. What’s important is how we handle them. From the previous battle process, it is evident that the enemy has mastered a very strong penetration mode, which has a great restraining effect on us."
Those who could stand here were no fools.
Or to say, the goblin upper echelons were either economic experts or technical experts or both.
From this analysis, it was clear to them that it wasn’t that their strength was weak, but rather that the enemy’s attacks greatly restrained them. The previous Wind Blade was manageable, merely a regular attack.
But the subsequent emergence of that Death Energy was a completely different matter.
It was common to see airships and land fortresses still operational, but the people inside were already dead. If this problem wasn’t solved, their losses would continue to grow.
"Very well, this is a very mature energy system. We must master this energy. If we do, we will become the most powerful entity in this world, perhaps even unify the entire world."
Every goblin harbored the desire to control the world, for that signified being the wealthiest person in reality.
Not overtly, but in various senses. Now, the Chief finally saw this hope.
Others’ eyes suddenly brightened. Yes, why hadn’t they thought of this? Although the losses were great, the subsequent income would be even greater. As long as they could withstand the pressure from others, they could rise rapidly.
"I understand. I will inform the research department to go all out on this project, but we will need financial support from everyone."
"Let’s stick to the usual ratio," the Chief spoke directly. Though he wanted to claim more, he dared not turn against everyone. If he did so before the research was successful, he would be doomed.
After some thought, the Chief continued, "Considering that person’s Strength is continually increasing, and his forces are growing, we must find ways to contain him. The opponent isn’t an animal; we can’t just use him for experiments."
"Moreover, that person is still within the borders of the Thorny Skin Kingdom. The ambassadors have already sent news that diplomats from the Thorny Skin Kingdom are preparing to travel to our country to negotiate."
Someone immediately said, "The negotiation can be ignored. After all, no one wants to waste time."
Indeed, they were all wise. Some matters could be negotiated normally, but this issue absolutely had no room for concessions. Either way, they would capture the person first.
Even if they needed to exchange interests later, they would need to secure the largest share.
"The opponent’s strength is indeed continually increasing. We cannot sit idly by, although we don’t know how they do it. I think we need to continuously use our military forces to suppress them, reducing the extent of their increase."
"I disagree. To fully suppress, all the major military factories in the country must operate, which would be a massive loss. The construction of airships and land fortresses costs a frightful amount."
"No problem. We’ve already accumulated many resources, all prepared for war. Even if not used, they serve no purpose just sitting there; let’s utilize them."
"I think we should research it further," a goblin murmured, looking down.
The Chief turned to him, "We’ll use this plan. As for the materials you’ve embezzled before, if you make up for them, I’ll let bygones be bygones." At these words, the man immediately broke into a cold sweat.
Indeed, his reluctance stemmed from the many materials he had embezzled.
Usually, those items were unused, so embezzlement wasn’t a concern for being discovered. What he hadn’t anticipated was that the Chief had known all along. Even the others had no surprised reactions, clearly also aware.
He realized then, the Chief was fattening up a pig. The materials would have degraded over time and needed to be phased out anyway.
Once he had embezzled them, they would be charged to his account, and when needed, he would have to regurgitate them all, perhaps even double.
Damn it, he had been outsmarted.
But even if he wanted to resist, he knew he lacked the capability.
Though money was more important than life to a goblin, someone at his level naturally understood that if he died, he would not leave behind a single penny; they would not spare him.
On the other hand, if he lived, although he might have to cough up most of his assets, he could retain some.
Most of his assets—just thinking about this made the goblin feel utterly despairing, an agony worse than death.
Such tormenting days were too difficult, perhaps once this matter was over, suicide might be a more suitable option for him. At least he wouldn’t have to spend the latter half of his life in continuous pain.
Others stopped looking at this guy; if he hadn’t been too greedy, he wouldn’t have been put in this position.
"Since no one has objections, let’s start the construction with full force. I think I should master that Energy Attack Mode as soon as possible." Ambition gleamed in the Chief’s eyes.
Others also showed smiles, seeing the benefits that would inevitably come to them.
