Chapter 251: Chapter 251: Testing the Waters or a Desperate Move
"Solo, boss, we’re coming up on Mianhai Port. Are you sure it’s okay to just charge in like this?"
A middle-aged man with a large hat in front sneered, "This is a joint operation. Those special ships at the port have already been lured away. They won’t pose any threat to us."
"But even so, there are enemies with the strength of Gold rank on the other side. Our clash with the Blood Sail could result in substantial losses."
"The losses won’t be too many; we’ve already investigated the situation. Although our losses may be large this time, what we gain will be even greater. Notify the core personnel to be careful. If they die, they can’t blame others."
His subordinates quickly acknowledged they understood, and soon everyone was bustling about.
Before long, offshore of Mianhai Port, some spotted a large number of ships swiftly sweeping towards them.
"Damn it, it’s the Blood Sail Pirates, hurry, notify everyone to prepare for battle."
Upon seeing those blood-red sails, tension engulfed everyone. The Blood Sail Pirates were an infamously notorious pirate group in these parts; very few had encountered them and lived to tell the tale.
The simple reason for that was almost everyone who did see them ended up killed, and there were very few survivors.
The coastal towns visited by the Blood Sail Pirates were left with virtually no survivors. They took everything and everyone they could carry away, and set everything else ablaze.
To many, the Blood Sail Pirates were a legend, a thing of legends.
Hearing that the Blood Sail Pirates had arrived instantly threw the entire port into chaos. Countless trading caravans retreated, and the surrounding ships fled. Even the warships, though they mustered together, were hesitant to engage recklessly.
"Who’s in charge here? Come out and talk."
"I am. I hired you. Your target is not us, but the New Port over there. We will coordinate our attack with you, but we have nothing to do with what you’re planning."
"Don’t worry, I know the rules. What about the rewards?"
A man on the other side gestured, and two large ships quickly sailed over. Solo waved his hand, and several sailors leaped out, boarding the other ships, while those on board quickly evacuated.
"Boss, we’ve got the right stuff," called out a man from the other ship.
"Good, once we’ve got the goods, I will see the job done properly. But if their combat power exceeds what you’ve reported, don’t blame us for leaving."
"I know the rules. If the intel is indeed wrong, our deal is off."
With a wave of his hand, Solo turned the fleet around, sailing off in another direction. And those who witnessed this heaved sighs of relief, cheering and throwing their hats into the air.
"Go back and tell the others we’ve paid a ransom to the pirates to spare our city. But the cost of this ransom can’t come from us alone, everyone else must compensate."
"Don’t worry, we’ve been ready for this."
They could not afford to be associated with pirates publicly; otherwise, they would not be able to carry on in the future.
This incident was noticed by the other side almost immediately. The news reached Fang Jie, who used the warehouse’s teleportation function to return to this location.
"What’s the specific situation?" Fang Jie began to inquire.
In the front were Fang Hao and Rory, with Fang Hao still the public head of Quisha Island.
Behind the scenes, Fang Jie monitored the situation through a crystal screen, unseen by Rory.
A Skeleton Hero promptly reported, "We’ve clarified the situation. It’s the Blood Sail Pirates who’ve come to target us, probably hired by the other side. The previous cargo shipments indeed had issues."
They had received various orders, resulting in the redeployment of local warships.
Special missions even caused the stationed combat forces to be reassigned. At least, that was what appeared to happen, and there were still some offers hanging in the air.
"Have our preparations been completed?"
"Rest assured, Lord Fang Hao has already arranged everything."
Fang Jie nodded, "Tell me, what’s the deal with these Blood Sail Pirates?" Fang Jie felt that the opposition seemed a bit desperate; this no longer seemed like a probing attack. The use of such methods indicated they had no other avenues left.
Moreover, despite the port’s wealth, their military strength was indeed insufficient, and there was no evidence that they supported any Lords or similar entities.
"The Blood Sail Pirates roam our waters and are infamously renowned."
They had already gathered the information from the people who had miraculously survived the pirates’ previous attacks.
"The Blood Sail Pirates are said to be utterly ruthless, leaving nothing alive wherever they go. Their sails are dyed red with the blood of their enemies. The seas turn red with blood wherever the Blood Sail passes."
"Enough of those legends, meant to bamboozle people. If their sails were indeed dyed with blood, they’d need countless enemies."
Fang Jie never believed these tales, even in an unscientific world. If blood was indeed used, it was probably for some special means.
"According to our observations, those Blood Sail do contain blood and give off the scent of blood."
That was indeed the case; as an Undead, being unable to distinguish blood would be quite the failure.
"How about their combat power?"
"We’re unclear about their combat strength, but if they dare to attack us, they probably have at least three to five Gold-rank fighters, perhaps even more."
"That’s not very strong, but then again, it’s just a small port they’re attacking. Although we display strong combat power, this place is merely a stronghold after all." Fang Jie wasn’t surprised by this.
News of the Blood Sail’s arrival quickly spread around. Under normal circumstances, they tended to come and go without a trace.
The rapid spread of news without any Guard Teams coming forward to interfere clarified a lot. Thus, the Blood Sail Pirates easily entered Fang Jie’s territory.
Outside New Port, the area was deserted; no one dared to watch.
After all, the Blood Sail Pirates were ruthless to any onlookers, just as they were to major powers.
"Here they come, the blood-red sails; it’s definitely them." Rory grew tense as he watched the ships approach. Hundreds of large ships in the distance demonstrated the formidable strength of this pirate group.
The combined fleets of many medium-sized islands might not even match their numbers.
