Chapter 216: The Might of a Legendary Expert
Chapter 216: Chapter 216: The Might of a Legendary Expert
As the grasslands had not yet witnessed any major battles, Fang Jie had not built a Gathering Spirit Tower here immediately. Cosette looked at the unconstructed Gathering Spirit Tower, feeling quite a bit of regret in his heart.
Had it been established before the war started, the gains during subsequent battles could have increased by at least 30%.
But now it didn’t matter much; since the enemy had already attacked, it was time to take direct action.
The army, which had been preparing for a long time, formed into a wedge-shaped formation and advanced as five massive groups.
The Beastmen on the opposite side did not show any weakness either and pressed on without hesitation, spreading their battle lines very widely. Wolf Riders chose to detour from even further away.
However, before those Wolf Riders could arrive, they encountered the Skeleton Cavalry and the two clashed fiercely.
In general, the strength of the Undead was not very remarkable, as they were inherently fragile. But their sheer numbers were overwhelming, and after a short battle, the Beastmen began to tire, and gradually some could no longer hold on.
"Damn it, if we hadn’t spread our front line so thin at the start, it would have been better; they are not Humans," the Beast Emperor said, watching the battlefield in front of him, filled with regret.
"Even if we hadn’t spread out, they would have done so, and being surrounded would have been even more trouble," a senior Foxman said softly beside him, his analysis of the battlefield much clearer.
Against Humans in the past, their way of warfare could suppress all the other troops in a short time, fully utilizing the Beastmen’s immense strength to crush the Human armies in one fell swoop.
This part of the grasslands was also suitable for deploying such vast formations.
But against these undead creatures who knew neither fear nor fatigue, their method of fighting was ineffective.
Although they still held an overwhelming advantage, they were living beings after all, and living beings get tired. When outnumbered, their disadvantages began to slowly show.
But now that the two sides were entangled, withdrawal was simply impossible.
Being chased and constantly shot at by the Undead Creatures, death would come even quicker that way.
The tactics used against Humans in the past seemed to be ineffective against the Undead. And the Foxman elder was right; if they hadn’t dispersed, being surrounded would have been even more problematic.
The Beastmen at the front continued to fight bitterly, while the Wolf Riders on the flank encountered significant trouble.
The Skeleton Cavalry were no weaker than them, and after the experiments in the Death Abyss, Fang Jie now had bronze-level Skeleton Cavalry, which had also joined the army.
Outnumbered, the Wolf Riders realized after a while that they might not be able to hold on much longer.
Under relentless attacks, the Wolf Riders suffered heavy casualties and began to retreat. Cavalry that had lost its speed was no match for the enemy. If things continued like this, they would likely face encirclement by the Skeleton Cavalry.
From the rear, thunderous noises rang out as the Skeleton War Elephants charged in.
The immense pressure forced the Beast Emperor to send his own Beastman War Elephants to confront them.
The weakest Skeleton War Elephants were of the bronze level, and the strongest, of the silver level, which were products of the Death Abyss. In terms of equivalent level and creatures, the Death Abyss was indeed formidable.
Although they hadn’t yet produced any gold level or any powerful mutated species,
simply upgrading these Skeleton Soldier types was already quite valuable.
However, the strength of the Beastmen’s War Elephants was greater, and they were more numerous, even having ones at the gold level leading them. After colliding for a while, our Skeleton War Elephants started to struggle.
"Air units, charge!" commanded Cosette.
A multitude of White Bone Vultures, along with some Stone Statue Ghosts, took to the skies, and it was now the Beastmen who frowned.
Because their aerial forces were indeed not as strong as the Undead across from them. Seeing that overwhelming dark mass, they knew they were in trouble in this battle.
"Send all our air forces up there, and I’ll join them," said the Beast Emperor as he donned his armor and took his huge axe toward the battlefield.
Though others wanted to dissuade him, considering the current situation, what good would their dissuasion do? Thus, the leaders picked up their weapons, one by one, and headed towards the battlefield.
The fierce aerial battle commenced immediately, with the Beastmen’s Harpies and their trained Flying Eagles completely outclassed by the enemies. Wait any longer, and air superiority would be utterly lost.
"Undead across from us, send out your leader, and we will have a battle between leaders," the Beast Emperor barked.
"My lord Cosette, do not be deceived by them, that Beastman is no simple matter," a figure whispered beside him.
Cosette nodded, "Of course, I know. That Beastman is likely not just any gold level, he might even be higher. If we really started a battle of leaders, I am probably no match, and besides, it wouldn’t be to our advantage."
A battle of leaders is a tactic to bolster your own morale and crush the opponent’s.
But the morale of the Undead would not be affected, so there was no need for such a tactic. Yet, if their own commander died, it would complicate control of the entire Undead Army, so Cosette chose to ignore the challenge.
"Coward, lacking even that bit of courage," the Beast Emperor roared, and the morale among the Beastmen on the battlefield surged.
By contrast, the Undead showed no change, maintaining their ground even if they were temporarily suppressed. Seeing no way to confront the enemy’s commander directly, the Beast Emperor charged into the battlefield.
His Fighting Spirit blazed like fire, and all soldiers who came near the Beast Emperor were instantly sent flying.
"He’s indeed not an ordinary gold-level. That must be Legendary," mused Cosette. Legendary Level, that was not a level one could casually achieve. A typical Territory Upgrade would at best reach gold level.
Cosette had no intention of entering the fray himself, but with a wave of his hand, a large number of Skeleton Flying Dragons and White Bone Griffin Knights took to the air.
Their gold level aura spread forth, instantly suppressing the pressure the Beast Emperor had brought.
From behind, the Humans who had just retreated to the rear were filled with shock at this sight. Such a battlefield was akin to an epic battle. No, to them, this was an epic battle.
With a swing of his axe towards the sky, the Beast Emperor’s immense strength formed a blade that instantly slew two Skeleton Flying Dragons.
The clean and neat execution silenced the once chattering Humans.
