Chapter 158: Chapter 158: Erminuo’s Desperate Escape

"Is everyone ready? Starting tomorrow, we’ll be facing a tough battle."

Hearing Jia Siwei’s words, the others nodded in agreement. These were all Jia Siwei’s recruits, people who had abandoned their territories on Earth. They were more reliable to use.

Although he had many natives under his command, Jia Siwei was much less assured about those individuals.

"Good, since everyone is ready, let’s rest and officially begin tomorrow."

They had no mercenaries now anyway, so it didn’t matter if their performance was a bit off or if their actions were a bit slow. Everyone else quickened their pace, eager to achieve military exploits as quickly as possible, while Jia Siwei always lagged behind.

The Nobles thought that it was because of their ostracism that Jia Siwei was held back so much, never realizing that it was all intentional on his part. If he had ample resources, how could he possibly slow down?

His subordinates included many highly capable individuals from diverse professions, making internal coordination of the team quite easy.

Erminuo had split from Jia Siwei long ago, and he was the fastest runner. With combat power equivalent to five hundred bronze level warriors, he pushed forward and was now nearing the border city.

But just upon nearing the border city, Erminuo sensed something was off as he encountered a large number of fleeing people. Initially, he thought it was just an isolated event, but soon he sensed something was wrong.

"Report, according to the people who are fleeing, the front line has already fallen to the enemy—it’s the Undead."

"Undead? Impossible, how could there be such creatures as the Undead here?"

Erminuo had seen the Undead before; in fact, many people had, especially around some mass burial mounds. Over time, some corpse bones nourished by Death Energy would automatically transform into the Undead.

These Undead were also the targets of the Patrol Team’s annihilation efforts, forming part of their annual duty.

Erminuo himself had led operations to eradicate Undead Creatures and thus understood them quite well.

But a large-scale Undead force was entirely different from those solitary ones. Such a scale, let alone in the New Moon Kingdom, had never been reported even across the vast neighboring lands.

While Erminuo had heard of falling fragments, his understanding of them was limited.

He only knew that fragments would fall periodically, altering the landscape and expanding the land. But as to where these things came from and their purposes, Erminuo didn’t know much.

The most recent report he received concerned a large number of natural-born Lords that had emerged.

"It’s terrible, it’s the Undead, a massive Undead Army."

Suddenly, someone burst in, crying out in panic. At first, Erminuo was furious, but noticing the horrified expression on the man’s face, along with the increasingly noisy surroundings, Erminuo realized something was wrong.

Pulling open his tent, Erminuo’s expression darkened. Outside was a sea of white, advancing towards them and already forming a semi-encirclement.

How could so many Undead suddenly appear here without him receiving any news?

"Damn it, retreat." In such a field environment, facing so many Undead was far too dangerous.

But suddenly, several High-level Skeletons were dropped from the air, mixed with a mass of low-level skeletons, sparking an immediate outbreak of battle.

"Not good, my Puppets!" Erminuo, amidst the chaotic crowd, tried to retreat but realized his Puppets weren’t keeping up.

Looking back, he discovered the Puppets were blocked by the Skeletons and then overwhelmed by the subsequent flood of Skeletons. Although they were still struggling, it seemed impossible for them to break free.

"Sir, we must retreat, it’s too late now." The others urgently persuaded.

It was not worth risking their lives for those Puppets.

Erminuo gritted his teeth: "Follow me, retreat!" Thus, they fought as they retreated, their group increasingly dispersing. After all, these were not his trained men but mercenaries he had hired.

As the battle wore on, the team became more scattered, and finally, someone couldn’t bear the pressure and turned to flee. Others subtly shifted towards different directions.

With fewer and fewer people around him, Erminuo sensed something was wrong, looked around, and instantly became furious.

"These damn bastards, deserting in the face of battle, just wait to be wanted when I get back." Erminuo was completely enraged. And he could imagine what kind of reputation he would have upon his return.

Having hired people flee, and he himself being a genuine Noble, he was sure to become a laughingstock.

Most importantly, he had charged so fast, only to be beaten down upon arrival; how would his father view him now? Thinking about inheriting the family title, he could forget receiving anything hereafter.

Erminuo fled ahead, gradually only accompanied by the original group he had brought.

Even so, nearly half of these people had died. If not for their sacrifices, perhaps he wouldn’t have made it out. But still, Undead Creatures steadily pursued them.

"Are we just going to let him go like this—without killing him?"

"No need, Jia Siwei said to spare his life; he’s more important. Try to save at least one life among the other Nobles."

Far away, a Skeleton Hero monitored their escape, occasionally adjusting the ratio of the pursuing troops. If they kept up the chase like this, these people would never escape.

Even through their adjustments, the fleeing group continued to unknowingly change directions.

Thus, they pursued, and unknowingly to them, Jia Siwei, who had accelerated at some point, now intersected with their escape route.

"Look, it’s Erminuo." Someone suddenly pointed ahead and shouted; Erminuo too noticed Jia Siwei’s group. A moment of joy followed by a wave of shame washed over him.

He had scorned Jia Siwei and didn’t want the latter to get any advantage, yet now he found himself needing Jia Siwei’s rescue.

Jia Siwei stepped forward, shouting: "Form up, hold against the Undead. Lord Erminuo, hurry over here."

Erminuo quickened his pace, entering the midst of Jia Siwei’s group. Jia Siwei’s Puppets, meanwhile, had formed a hollow square formation, enveloping them firmly within and steadfastly defending.

Outside, the Skeletons continuously attacked, but their strength was no match for the Puppets. If a Puppet was injured, it was immediately replaced, sent to the back for simple repairs since these men couldn’t handle anything too complex.
