Chapter 65: Trouble Knocks Twice

Chapter 65: Trouble Knocks Twice

....."Wait, should we report it to the police?"

I quickly nodded. "What! No."

"I mean, they’re already investigating this stuff, right?" he said. "If we tell them, it could give them an upper hand. Help them connect the dots faster. We’re investigating too, Ash, we shouldn’t keep this kind of thing to ourselves...for our safety."

I hesitated. My hand tightened around the bowl.

"I don’t think that’s a good idea."

"Why not?"

I flinched. "If the killer finds out I snitched to the police...God, Dom. I have more to lose. I have too many people in my life."

"He won’t find out," Dominic said. "We’ll be smart about it. Just... think about it. We’ll go tomorrow, okay? Together."

I gave a small nod, still hesitating.

"Also," he continued, "we need to find out what this serpent group is actually called. Like, their name. Something we can look up or trace. If they’re branding people, they’re organized. Probably dangerous as hell."

"Yes."

He leaned back against the pillows again.

"What if we ask Shawn? He probably knows them. If they’ve pawned stuff before, he’d have seen them around."

My head shot up. "Omg, yes. That makes sense."

"But..." I hesitated again, frowning. "What if the person who threatened me thought I already went to Shawn? I mean, I did go there yesterday. What if that’s why they sent the message today?"

Dominic frowned. "That’s... messed up."

He reached out and nudged my knee with his. "We’ll figure it out, okay? We always do."

I nodded slowly.

Then I looked at him.

"Also, Dom... thank you."

"For what?"

"You paid my mom’s medical fee." I set the bowl down. "That’s a lot of money."

Dominic shrugged, like he’d forgotten. "Oh... that. It’s nothing."

"That?" I laughed. "No, it’s not. That’s... huge. The money is a lot, and you just....what? Covered it without even telling me?"

He shrugged, but I could see that flicker in his eyes. "It’s not about the money."

"Still... how do I repay you?" I asked. "Seriously. There has to be something I can do."

"There’s only one way," he said, smirking at me now.

I raised an eyebrow. "There’s always a catch with you rich people."

Now he was grinning, all slow mischief and glitter in his tired eyes.

"Life’s all about transaction, Rivera."

I huffed a breath and rolled my eyes. "Uggh, fine. What’s the deal?"

Dominic leaned in, close enough that I could smell the hint of ginger still on his breath. His voice dropped.

"You."

My heart skipped.

The air in the room changed.

A single word, but it cracked something open inside me.

"What!" I breathed.

He pulled back just enough to meet my eyes. "You. That’s the deal."

My cheeks flushed. "I’m not some trade-in item, Dom."

"I know," he said. "But you asked what I wanted. And that’s it."

I was silent for a second, thrown completely off guard.

My heart was still racing from the way he whispered you. "Fine, what exactly do you want me to do?"

Dominic didn’t even hesitate. "Move in with me."

I burst out laughing, nearly choking. "Move in with you?" I raised a brow. "So you can what? Do stuff to me every day?"

He leaned back. "Stuff like what?"

"I don’t know..." I said, feigning innocence, but my cheeks were already betraying me.

My fingers grazed the side of the bowl still in my hand. "You tell me."

"Like this?" he said softly.

His hand slid up, his warm fingers choking the side of my neck, sending a trail of goosebumps all over my body.

His other hand moved to my lips, thumb brushing against my bottom lips like he was testing how soft they really were.

I nodded. I literally just nodded.

But inside, I was screaming.

What the hell is happening?

Did he cast a spell on me?

My skin burned where his hands touched me. My heart beat was way too fast, and my breath caught and I literally forget how to form a full sentence.

He looked at me like he knew every secret I hadn’t said out loud. Like he wasn’t asking for permission... but waiting for me to surrender.

"Omg, Dom..." I whispered, barely able to form words. "You’re sick."

He leaned in closer. "Fever won’t stop me, Ash. You don’t even know how plump and sexy your lips look when you bite them like that."

He grinned, his eyes dropped to my lips like he wanted to devour it.

I blinked and....yeah, I was biting my lip again.

I looked down.

And that’s when I saw it. Oh God.

Dominic. Under the blanket.

He was hard. It was pretty obvious against the fabric of his sweatpants.

My breath hitched. I looked away quickly, but the image was perfectly pictured in my brain.

"You’re actually.....serious? You’re hard right now?!"

Dominic didn’t even flinch.

"Blame yourself," he said lazily. "You showed up here looking like that. Then brought soup, said sweet things, acted all shy, nervous sexy....and now you’re in my bed."

He shrugged.

"I’m only human."

I flinched.

Dominic didn’t stop touching me.

"You still think moving in is a bad idea?"

"Obviously." I whispered.

One second, his fingers were grazing my lips, and the next, he was guiding me slowly onto the bed beside him.

His palm pressed against my chest, his fever-warmed body tugging me down, as the duvet crumpled above us.

"I’m gonna get in trouble," I murmured.

He tilted his head. "You already are."

Our faces were inches apart.

He pulled me gently by the waist, and I found myself straddling his lap. His hands gripped my thighs.

My thoughts were all over the place.

Why did this feel so natural?

Why did he make me forget the world was falling apart?

His fever was supposed to make him weak.

But the way he held me? The way his fingers keeps trailing my skin?

It made me feel weak instead.

I let out a shaky breath, my hands kept gripping his broad shoulders. "Dom..."

"Hmm?"

"This is a bad idea."

His fever was clearly still there, but I could feel another kind of heat radiating between us.

"Then stop me."

I didn’t.

"You feel hot," I murmured.

"I am hot," he smirked.

Instead, I leaned in until our lips touched. I could feel every part of him against me....his hard dick, and God, it was hard not to drown in the heat.

Then...

Knock.

We froze.

Then another knock.

The door creaked open.

Footsteps.

I barely had time to move. We both turned, still tangled together.

Then...

"Dom, are you..."

The door flung wider.

I whipped my head toward it just as Dominic turned, still above me.

A tall lady stood in the doorway....her icy blue eyes scanned the room behind a pair of designer glasses, the kind that made smart look dangerously hot.

Her wavy hair falling perfectly around her shoulders. She wore heels, a fitted blazer, and carried a box of takeout.

Her jaw dropped.

My entire soul left my body.

"Oh my God.... Diane!" Dominic choked, scrambling up, nearly pushing me off in the process.

I fell sideways on the bed as he pulled the blanket over us in a panic.

Diane blinked. Her gaze darted from me to Dom to the way my shirt was slightly rumpled and...

"Sorry!" she gasped, spinning around so fast she nearly hit her head on the wall, slamming the door shut behind her

Then...

I buried my face in Dominic’s shoulder. "Kill me."

"I think I just died," he groaned.
