Ghost Exorciser: Is Loved By All -
Chapter 716: Bombs
Chapter 716: Chapter 716: Bombs
After all, her dreams had a record of coming true.
To say she was scared wouldn’t be a lie.
Qiao Jun sat up beside her, watching her with furrowed brows.
"Holea? What happened? You were shaking just now."
She turned her gaze toward him, scanning his face for any hint of deception.
But here he was—real, solid, concerned. Not cold. Not distant. Not breaking her heart.
Not yet.
"It was just a dream," she muttered, voice strained. "A stupid dream."
Qiao Jun reached for her hand, but she instinctively pulled away.
The hesitation in his eyes was fleeting, but she caught it. He didn’t push her.
"It didn’t look like just a dream," he said slowly. "You looked... afraid."
Yu Holea forced a breath through her nose and ran a hand through her hair. "I’m fine. It doesn’t matter."
But it did.
Because if her dreams were any indication, the future had just shown her something inevitable.
A silence stretched between them before Qiao Jun finally spoke again. "You know you can tell me anything, right?"
Yu Holea let out a quiet scoff. The irony wasn’t lost on her.
Could she? Could she tell him she had just seen him walk away from her?
That he would soon break her heart? That no matter how tightly he held her now, he would eventually let go?
Instead, she shook her head. "I just need some air."
She pushed the covers off and swung her legs over the side of the bed.
The cold floor against her feet grounded her, but it didn’t ease the unease swirling inside her.
Qiao Jun didn’t stop her as she stood up and left the room.
She needed to clear her head.
...................
Yu Mei was delighted.
She felt as if there was finally some movement.
Just yesterday, Cai Bao had patted Yu Mei’s hand and said,
"You know you are such a good girl that I want to make you my granddaughter-in-law. Get ready and come with me to my ancestral villa tomorrow. I will introduce you to someone else special."
Yu Mei agreed with a thrilled expression.
The next day.
Yu Mei stood at the entrance of the Yu family villa, dressed in an elegant pale pink dress with delicate embroidery.
She glanced at her phone, waiting for a signal.
The paparazzi she had hired stood at a distance, pretending to check his camera settings.
Any moment now.
The black luxury car rolled up, stopping right in front of her.
The chauffeur stepped out and respectfully opened the door for Cai Bao, the matriarch of the Qiao family.
Yu Mei immediately put on her sweetest smile, her hands clasped in front of her in an innocent, well-mannered posture.
"Yu Mei, dear, are you ready to go?" Cai Bao asked, her aged yet dignified voice carrying warmth.
Yu Mei hesitated, pretending to check the time on her phone while stealing a glance at the paparazzi.
The man subtly nodded, indicating that he had taken enough pictures.
Perfect.
With a demure smile, she stepped forward and entered the car.
The door shut behind her with a soft click, and the vehicle smoothly pulled away from the villa.
As they settled into their seats, Cai Bao looked at Yu Mei with approval.
"You are such a well-mannered girl, Yu Mei. So respectful, so devoted to the Buddha. It warms my heart."
Yu Mei lowered her gaze shyly, acting bashful.
"Grandmother Cai, it is my honor to learn from you. You are my role model."
Cai Bao chuckled, clearly pleased.
"I have been thinking. My grandson is at the age where he should settle down. He is a successful businessman, responsible and hardworking. His only flaw is his average looks. But I believe you two would be a good match."
Yu Mei’s heart leaped.
Though she had expected this, hearing it directly filled her with excitement. She pressed her hands together, as if in gratitude.
"Oh, Grandmother Cai, I trust your wisdom. Even if he... doesn’t look too great, I will bear it. After all, I care for you deeply."
She kept her voice as soft and humble as possible, but inside, she scoffed.
Calling Qiao Jun average-looking was an insult.
He was the most handsome man she had ever seen.
But since Cai Bao was his grandmother, she probably only said that out of politeness.
Cai Bao smiled knowingly and reached into her purse, pulling out a pair of jade bracelets.
"These are for you, dear. A small gift."
Yu Mei gasped in delight but quickly covered her mouth.
"Oh, Grandmother Cai, I can’t possibly accept something so precious!"
"Take it, child. Consider it a token of my appreciation."
Yu Mei hesitated just long enough to appear reluctant before gently accepting the bracelets.
She could tell at a glance that they were high-quality jade, likely worth a fortune.
Her fingers trembled slightly as she estimated their price in her mind.
This was it. Soon, she would be Qiao Jun’s wife.
Yu Holea would be nothing but a shadow in the past.
The car continued down the road, and soon they arrived at the so-called ancestral villa.
Yu Mei’s smile stiffened.
The villa was not what she had imagined.
Instead of a grand estate, she was met with a worn-down structure covered in dust, its walls cracked, and parts of the roof sagging.
The front yard had weeds growing wildly, and the gate creaked as it opened.
Her heart sank.
Why did the grandmother of the richest man in the country own such a pitiful place?
Still, she gritted her teeth and forced a bright smile.
Cai Bao stepped out first, and Yu Mei followed gracefully, carefully avoiding any muddy patches.
They entered the villa, where an old wooden sofa with faded cushions sat in the middle of the room.
"Sit down, dear," Cai Bao said warmly.
Yu Mei smiled and sat down with perfect posture.
PFFFTTTT!
A loud farting sound echoed through the room.
Yu Mei’s face turned pale.
She jumped up instantly, waving her hands. "That wasn’t me!"
Cai Bao gave her a meaningful look before sighing.
"Oh dear, maybe it was just the cushion. Here, try sitting over there instead."
Yu Mei nodded stiffly and moved to another spot, this time lowering herself onto the edge carefully.
PFFFFTTT!
This time, an actual foul smell followed the sound.
Yu Mei’s face twisted in horror. "I swear it’s not me!"
The room fell silent.
Cai Bao stared at her, one brow raised. "Oh? But no one else is sitting there."
Yu Mei’s ears burned with embarrassment. She hurriedly stood up again, glaring at the innocent-looking cushions.
Was this a test? A joke? Some kind of ancient trick to see if she was worthy of being Qiao Jun’s wife?
Cai Bao chuckled, fanning the air lightly.
"Oh, my dear, don’t be shy. We’re all family here."
Yu Mei clenched her fists. She was not going to let some old sofa make a fool of her.
Taking a deep breath, she carefully sat down again, this time with the utmost grace.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then—
PPPPFFFFFTTTT!
The sound was even louder, echoing through the room like a drum.
Yu Mei shot up so fast she almost tripped. The stench followed, stronger than before.
Cai Bao covered her nose, her eyes twinkling with amusement.
"Oh, Yu Mei... I had no idea you had such a... free spirit."
Yu Mei wanted to dig a hole and bury herself in it.
Her dreams of becoming the elegant and sophisticated wife of Qiao Jun were slipping through her fingers with every embarrassing noise.
Cai Bao chuckled again and patted Yu Mei’s arm.
"Don’t worry, dear. This house is very old. Some of the cushions have air trapped in them."
Yu Mei’s smile was frozen on her face.
Trapped air? Was that really it? Or was this some sort of twisted game?
Either way, she had no choice but to endure.
With clenched teeth, she forced another smile. "Ah, I see... What an interesting house."
Cai Bao smiled knowingly. "Yes, it is. And it reveals the truth about people. Don’t you think?"
Yu Mei swallowed hard.
For the first time, she felt that perhaps she had underestimated Cai Bao.
"Oh dear, I was just joking. Don’t take it to heart." Cai Bao smiled and took out the fart bombs from the cushions.
Yu Mei: "..."
She cursed Cai Bao in her heart,
’You dying old b*tch! Is it funny to see me embarrassed? May you slip and die while farting! Stupid old b*tch!’
But she maintained a smile on her face and laughed along,
"Haha! Grandma, you are so funny."
"Come and sit down. My grandson will be arriving here soon." Cai Bao said with a smile.
Yu Mei could only swallow her anger.
’Mei, you can’t ruin everything! Once you marry Qiao Jun, you can deal with this old b*tch.’
She nodded and sat down. This time, no farting sound came.
Just then the sound of the footsteps sounded and Yu Mei looked toward the entrance with a hopeful expression.
