Chapter 651: Chapter 651: Slap-2
The interview ended on a high note, with the audience clapping and cheering.
Ms. Zhang smiled warmly at Sheng Yin and Yu Shuchang.
"Well, that’s all the time we have for today! Thank you, Yu Shuchang, for sharing your exciting new album with us.
And Sheng Yin, you’ve amazed us all—not just with your grace and talent, but with your intelligence. You’re truly a role model."
Sheng Yin bowed her head slightly, her smile calm and composed.
"Thank you, Ms. Zhang. It was an honor to be here."
As the show wrapped up, the staff and crew bustled around, clearing the set.
Sheng Yin quietly slipped away, making her way to her vanity van for some much-needed rest.
Inside the cozy van, she sat on the plush couch and leaned back, closing her eyes briefly.
Her assistant, Susan, burst in a moment later, her face lit up with excitement.
"Miss Sheng Yin! You were amazing today!" Susan gushed, practically bouncing on her feet.
Sheng Yin opened her eyes and smiled faintly.
"Thank you, Susan. I’m glad everything went well."
"No, seriously!" Susan continued, sitting beside her.
"The way you handled everything—the Greek word, the audience’s reactions—you were so calm and confident. I could never do that!"
Sheng Yin chuckled softly.
"It’s all part of the job. You learn as you go."
Susan hesitated for a moment before leaning in slightly, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper.
"Miss Sheng Yin, do you... know Yu Shuchang? Like, personally?"
Sheng Yin’s smile didn’t falter, but her gaze turned distant for a brief moment.
"We have a professional relationship," she replied evenly.
Susan’s eyes sparkled with excitement.
"Oh, wow! He’s such a talented singer! I’ve been his fan for years! Do you think... do you think you could introduce me to him someday?"
Sheng Yin looked at her assistant, her expression softening.
She remembered Susan’s request in her past life and how things had unfolded.
Back then, she had introduced Susan to Yu Shuchang without much thought.
What followed was unexpected—Yu Shuchang and Susan began talking frequently, and he even started comparing Susan to her.
The memory of her anger and the way she had unjustly punished Susan still stung.
But this time, Sheng Yin had decided things would be different. She wouldn’t stand in their way.
"Of course," Sheng Yin said with a small smile.
Susan’s face lit up with joy. "Really? Oh my gosh, thank you, Miss Sheng Yin! You’re the best boss ever!"
Just then, there was a knock on the door of the vanity van. Susan jumped up to answer it. Standing outside was Mark, Yu Shuchang’s assistant.
"Good evening," Mark said politely. "Miss Sheng Yin, Mr. Yu Shuchang would like to invite you to his car for a short chat."
Sheng Yin hesitated for a brief moment but quickly composed herself. "All right," she said, rising from her seat. "Susan, come with me."
Susan’s eyes widened in surprise but nodded eagerly, following her boss.
As they walked toward the sleek black car parked near the studio, Sheng Yin felt a heaviness in her chest.
She had made peace with the idea of letting go of Yu Shuchang, but that didn’t mean it was easy.
Memories of their past interactions—both the sweet and the painful—flashed through her mind.
Mark opened the car door, revealing Yu Shuchang sitting inside. His relaxed posture and charming smile greeted them.
"Miss Sheng Yin," he said warmly, gesturing for her to take a seat. "Thank you for coming."
Sheng Yin stepped inside gracefully, with Susan trailing behind her.
The assistant couldn’t hide her excitement, her eyes sparkling as she glanced at Yu Shuchang.
The atmosphere in the car was pleasant but carried an undercurrent of unspoken tension.
Sheng Yin kept her expression calm, her hands folded neatly in her lap.
"What did you want to discuss, Mr. Yu?" she asked, her tone polite but distant.
Yu Shuchang glanced at her, his gaze lingering for a moment before he spoke.
"I just wanted to thank you for how well you handled everything during the interview. It’s not every day you see someone as poised as you."
Sheng Yin smiled faintly. "It was my pleasure."
The conversation continued casually, with Yu Shuchang occasionally directing questions toward Susan, who eagerly answered each one.
Sheng Yin observed quietly, her heart feeling heavy but resolute.
She knew this was just the beginning of something between Yu Shuchang and Susan.
In her past life, she had fought against it, but this time, she wouldn’t make the same mistakes.
As the car ride came to an end, Yu Shuchang looked at Susan and said with a grin,
"It’s nice to see such a dedicated fan. Maybe we’ll meet again soon."
Susan practically glowed with happiness, her voice trembling slightly as she responded,
"Thank you, Mr. Yu! That would be amazing!"
When she saw her house, a regretful expression appeared on her face, but she still bid farewell and exited the car.
Sheng Yin was confused as to why the driver had dropped Susan first. After all, in their previous life, it was always her, who was dropped first.
But then she thought about how they still have to develop feelings.
Right.
Sheng Yin wanted to tap her head, but she felt a bit bitter in her heart.
Love truly can make one pathetic.
Yu Shuchang’s voice broke Sheng Yin’s train of thought,
"Why did you bring your assistant?"
Sheng Yin was surprised. Shouldn’t Yu Shuchang be happy?
But then she realized that for Yu Shuchang, Susan was a stranger. She explained,
"I was worried about leaving her alone."
Yu Shuchang didn’t continue the subject and instead asked,
"Miss Sheng you are not being fair."
"Hm?" Sheng Yin was caught off guard by the sudden statement.
"I am your boyfriend.."
Sheng Yin blinked, her calm expression faltering for just a moment as she processed Yu Shuchang’s words.
"Boyfriend?" she repeated, her voice steady but tinged with surprise.
Yu Shuchang leaned back in his seat, his gaze locking with hers. "Even if it’s just a contract, don’t you think you should treat me a little better? Bringing your assistant along feels... distant."
Sheng Yin’s heart skipped a beat, but she quickly regained her composure. Her tone remained polite yet firm.
"Mr. Yu, I don’t think the terms of our agreement specify how I should treat you outside of public appearances. Besides, Susan is my assistant—her presence shouldn’t bother you."
Yu Shuchang smirked slightly, a playful glint in his eyes.
"You’re always so composed, Miss Sheng. It’s hard to tell what you’re really thinking."
Sheng Yin looked out the window, her hands resting lightly on her lap. She didn’t want to have this conversation.
Not now, not ever. She’d already made up her mind to let go of him, even if it meant enduring these moments of awkwardness.
"Sometimes, Mr. Yu," she said quietly, "it’s better to not know what someone is thinking."
In her previous life, he knew what she was thinking and avoided her.
Yu Shuchang leaned forward slightly, his smirk deepening.
"Better not know, huh? That’s so typical of you, Miss Sheng. Always keeping a distance. But you know," his voice dropped just enough to make Sheng Yin’s pulse quicken, "sometimes, distance isn’t a good thing."
Sheng Yin’s eyes flickered with a mix of surprise and composure.
"Distance is necessary, Mr. Yu," she replied, her voice smooth. "It keeps things professional."
Yu Shuchang chuckled, his gaze steady on her.
"Professional? We’re not strangers, Sheng Yin. We’re closer than most would imagine."
Sheng Yin felt a warmth creeping up her cheeks, but she wasn’t about to let him win.
Taking a deep breath, she decided to meet his teasing head-on. She tilted her head slightly, a soft smile gracing her lips.
"You seem to know a lot about me, Mr. Yu," she said, her voice gentle but playful.
"Should I be flattered or concerned?"
Yu Shuchang’s smirk widened, and he leaned closer, the small space between them feeling even smaller.
"Flattered, of course. I’m not the kind of guy who gets interested in just anyone."
Sheng Yin’s heartbeat quickened, but she refused to back down. Instead, she leaned in just slightly, her calm demeanor hiding the turmoil inside.
"Interested, are you?" she said softly, her tone light.
"That’s surprising. I didn’t think someone as busy as you would have time for such things."
Yu Shuchang’s eyes glinted with mischief, and for the first time, he seemed momentarily caught off guard.
"You’re good at this," he murmured, his voice lower now.
Sheng Yin felt a small sense of triumph and decided to push a little further.
"Maybe you’re underestimating me, Mr. Yu. I’m not as predictable as you think."
Her smile was as beautiful as a charming fox, causing Yu Shuchang to feel a bit weak.
That did it. Yu Shuchang’s playful smirk turned into something more intense.
Without warning, he closed the gap between them, his lips brushing against hers in a kiss that was both soft and electrifying.
